    I am so keen to get onto a barra, not so keen to get into the FNQ heat hehehe. That is a cracker fish mate well done.

    Ha, mate we would scoot out into the gulf every day and punch down to other rivers - this was the best part - breeze in your face. Then you get the rivers and fish all day, but it is all worth it! Plus,

    Hi Folks,

    Havent posted these since we headed to the Gulf Last October. Everyone likes to look at fish pics so hereya go.

    The past 3 years the same group of us have been heading to the gulf and at the end of each trip I just can't wait for the next year.

    I should learn to take better pics. There is a video of a hook up on someones camera, fish went 1.2m and she played up nicely - better chase it up.

    7 days of fishing and it was beautiful fishing every day. 5 fish over a meter. Some great cast fishing and it wasn't our best trip, but the variety of fishing we could pull was certainly entertaining.

    If I could move my business to FN QLD (just can't do it) I certainly would leave tomorrow.

    Good luck. I don't venture down where you are in the yak. I wish i had the energy to get the boat ready and suss out some jew holes.

    I went this afternoon for a flick and there was little action. I came in early but i think the pressure wouldve been a nice fishable figure tonight so good on you ;)

    Hi guys

    Long time since I posted - since moving back up to the Lake & i hadn't brought the yak with me until recently. Certainly much more accessible with a 1 min drive to the waters edge than rampaging through sydney to get a launch on.

    So i've hit the southern end on 3 occasions in two weeks with some good HB success.

    I've dropped a mammoth flathead and scored plenty of decent bream & a few flat ones. Here is a selection of the 2nd trip's catch 6 bream 2 flathead. All on the high tide in the space of 2 hours. Also had to finish early one of the times as I hooked my finger pretty badly whilst handling a flathead and the blood wouldnt stop & needed some better plyers to get her out.

    Best lure was the Jackall Chubby and a cheap pink clear one accounting for a few bream. Also hooked the large flatty on a vibe.

    flatty whiting and bream is your best bet for a decent feed. Lake has a lot of traffic in the holidays but put in the time on the tides & move around until you find the fish. plenty of whiting around channel entrance.... the lake is so big you got to explore though, until you hit them.

    I fish the southern end of the lake and have been scoring some nice bream around the weed beds with some whiting to add for good measure all on lures. Awesome fun.

    Hi Guys,

    Yes rare and the Oarfish do grow massive. Very lucky to see one in real life after some google searches! The colours were unreal the silver was almost like metalic and the red was mystical. Reminded me of a dragon.

    Fisheries replied to my email and it isn't an Oar fish but a similar fish named the Crested Bandfish.

    Sorry its a Crested Bandfish , its similar to the Oarfish.

    Its a Oarfish.

    Prefers oceanic conditions far offshore, but occasionally found in estuaries and large coastal bays. Sometimes washed offshore during storms.

    Saturday was nice and hot so went down to Greenhills for a swim, brough a rod, but decided to leave the Mrs in peace and not flick out any worms for whiting. Also it was crowded.

    Went in for a dip and saw a Red thing floating in the water. Swam a bit closer to see it sticking out of the water and a mass underneath it. Soon enough it washed on the shore and the crowds came in.

    It was badly injured (looks like had a big taxi to the wrong area (trawler pick him up?)or swam to far from home or something)

    Also when it was flapping around on shore, bits of oil were coming off it.

    MAy have hit a patch of oil somewhere around kurnell?

    Some hero tried to swim it out on his surf board to deeper water and that was the last we saw. It shouldn't have a knife put through it and put out of it's misery poor thing.

    Anyone got an ID on this likely deep sea enigma?
