  1. Nice fish there! Just a side note on big fish it looks as if we will see a run of bigger fish this year I have kept records and notice 92/93 then 04/05 and last year produced exceptional runs in numbers and size around late spring summer it seems there is a pattern and this coming season is showing that! It was 1992 as a 17 year old I took my biggest fish at 5lb on the scales never got a length but had to cradle the big fish like a newborn baby to pick it up!

Little do I take notes of big fish during the seasons, though I do realise that the first few weeks of September are really thick with 40cm+ specimens. I think it may just be because the big breeders are just coming out of the Rivers, though our spot is very consistent with very much whole season getting mixed sizes.

  2. That's a great fish.

Well done to your Dad, if he's a Raider, it could be the new mark to beat.

I like the alvey tcs and Wilson combo, that's mine. So I'm guessing only a matter of time. Haha

    Great work.

Cheers mate, he actually is. After all he is the original creator of the Profile be both operate on. Yeah it sure is a great combo though I personally I don't like it haha. I hate the softness and the length in the Wilson Rod, it's more preferred for Rivers, I use a custom made 12ft with a bit more stiffness almost more like a medium taper but softer for more lifting power off the Rocks and I use a 475A5E I hate drags on Luderick reels I like to feed line easier I like to keep it original too aha.

  3. Good day raiders, it's team Bangus here it's been a while. Sorry while, I mean lets say a few years... Where has the Father and Son team been? Well me and my Father have been out and about well too busy Fishing, over these few years with out a post we have been up and down the coast chasing the pinnacle LBG Fish from Marlin to Tuna just to keep you up dated with what's been going on. Very well, lets not get too drifted away.

It was 2 months ago... After having a chilly Winter I thought it would be great to be back on the Rocks again, knowing that September is a great time to chase Luderick off the Rocks considering there is no Pelagics to chase off the Rocks during this time. Pack with the Luderick gear and off we went! With tide coming in at the time of arrival perfect! As I scramble along the Rocks with the sound of my cleats click and clack on the Rocks like Horse shoes, smelling the salt of the sea, I black out and think of all the best memories and forget about the worst left at home... Most definitely my type of tranquility, I open my eyes and get back to reality. The green weed long and thick perfect stuff! First bait was in the water start burleying, very quiet start after a while of persisting and burleying finally I see the tip of my float slowly sink underwater in a quick flick of the rod and the slack going straight bang! "I'm on!" taking my time with the wave the first Fish of the day was landed nice little specimen. Soon it starts to heat up, my Father on as well and lands a smashing 40cm+ specimen after a 1 Hour and 30 mins the bite slows down 10 Luderick in the bag. Southerly comes through and the Water is getting a bit crazy... One last bite on my Fathers float and he is on! "Last one Dad." me being completely inpatient urging him to just crank the Fish in in and get it done, my Father having to think correctly and take his time. Though me watching his back with scary freak waves absolutely smashing us finally after getting smashed with waves and showered on it was landed with the wash of the wave "No way that is a Luderick." at first I was confused for a great sized Drummer then I saw the stripes I was stocked this Fish is a stonker! Out went the brag mat and our eyes expressed the shock. 49.5 smashing centimeters of pure Luderick absolutely unbelievable! Dissapointing though, just 5 millimeters to 50cm! Beating my personal record of 45cm. We thought never in our life we would see a Luderick this size ever again, and we would hate to see this Fish die, considering a Luderick over the size of 40cm taste horrible too. Few quick snapshots and back in the water did the beautiful specimen went, a great day with 11 Luderick gear was packed and back for the drive home. Bring on the Season!

    Cheers Team Bangus.

  4. Most likely a Surgeon especially around that area, and what makes me even think that is because your using cabbage weed too! you'll often strike and find out you have no hook they have razor sharp teeth try next time using a thicker trace and a bigger hook...

    Cheers Team Bangus :1fishing1:

  5. Hi guys,

headed of to kissing point last night to battle the crowds and try for a jew. Was packed as. Luckily a guy i know was fishing and had a spot. He gave me a corner so got a couple of yellow tail and sent one out into a dark corner. Tide just started to run in. About 20 mins later my rod goes bonkers. struggled to get my rod out of the holder, so knew it was a decent fish. The Fish took about 3 long runs and was holding his ground under the water refusing to budge. I gave him all the line he wanted and took my time, till i saw the ferry in the distance.Luckily he was dead tired and came into the net quietly...

measured 97.5cm and 9.8kg (including the bream & 2 herring in her stomach)

    post-11578-050749200 1326793453_thumb.jpg

I took a nice break after that, legs were soft and was happy with my catch. Had another 2 yellowtail in the bucket, why not toss em out?

another 10mins passes and i was shocked to hear my drag go off again. This time much easier fight pulled in a smaller specimen

measured 55cm and couldn't be bothered weighing it. The one fish was more than enough so I gave this jew to the bloke who gave me a corner. Other than that there wasn't much else.... all the bait disappeared and the only live squid I got was demolished in about 30 seconds literally.

well done on the jewie mate we were ther last night nothing on the squid strip cheers bangus
  6. Hi all have been fishing quite a lot lately due to losing job so i figured what better way is there to relax and ease my mind.I have been fishing in some pretty ...... up weather rain, southerly wind but i have had some pretty good results(i got the count at around 13 jew's give or take)ranging from 1.5kg's-8kg's in the last 3 week's,i think the fishing god's have taken pity on me and rewarding me for me dedication hehehe.i have been catching more jew's than squid believe it or not(usually or should i say definately always the other way around),not quite sure what's going on there but the squid has been limited(still catching but not as much).i have been using squid and livie's and id say that most of the jew's were caught on the livie's which i think is a little unusual.Have been giving the fish out to family and friends and the freezer's still full now if only the squid come back on.Here's a couple of pic's..Plenty of jewie's around so brave the wind and rain and you shall be rewarded..post-10921-023171200 1322370035_thumb.jpgpost-10921-074339600 1322370049_thumb.jpgpost-10921-001212200 1322370061_thumb.jpgpost-10921-075808800 1322370085_thumb.jpgpost-10921-015839800 1322370182_thumb.jpg

We only caught six fish and lost about the same but 5 of them were over 45cms and one was a cracker at 46cms and my new PB :yahoo: and didnt they pull hard omg I am glad I had an 8lb leader on.

We berleyed hard and fished even harder in glorious condition but the fish just didnt want to bite with any regularity and I think that will just about do me for blackfishing this year and go back to plastics and lure again for some time. The bite has lasted almost 10 months and the fishing has been extraorindinary to say the least.

Thanks for a memorable day Chris and hopefully as the weather warms up Glenbawn will fire up for us both.

    Cheers Stewy

congratstulation !! stewy . Very nice blackfish ther

  8. G day Raiders,

We decided to go fishing at Avoca this morning and so we did! We Arrived at Avoca beach around 7am and the swell was not looking good at all as we walked down the ledge the finaly got to the spinning ledge and it did not look good at all with the swell comming up and waves going on the ledge it was all going bad! So then we said to stay at the first corner untill the sea's calmed down and maybe catch some Blackfish there as I was fishing I saw Ray! and it was good to see Ray again it has been a long time no see! so then as we started berlying up hard the swell just kept on getting bigger and bigger! a few hours past Nada then Ray went home. As the swell started to calm down we had lunch then went to the spinning ledge my favourate ledge! I started berlying hard but no fish. I berlyed hard again and noticed a saw Baby Blackfish down deep  A very good sign! then Ray come back for another fish! he check the ledge then moved to another spot or about half a hour during that time the Trevally to going CRAZY but we couldnt catch any in our berly trail, then Ray came by to see if we got anything I berlyed again and a wave came up then down deep was a few blackfish down deep I got exited and started changing my bait and as a turned around Ray was on! We were going crazy!!! And finaly popped up a Blackfish FINALY!! Since that Ray I so Very Kind and Generost he gave it to us :biggrin2: I started berlying then Ray was on again!! a few mins later came up a good sized Blackfish I got so exited! And Ray was catching them all! I tried and tried to catch one then Ray I on AGAIN!!! I could see in the fight that it was BIG Ray took his time and played with the fish then..... :1yikes: I was shocked how big and Fat this Blackfish was strait away on the brag mat and I couldnt believe my eyes 43cm!!!! :D It was the biggest Blackfish I have ever seen! A hours past and my Dad caught 2 and I 0 but still at the end of the day Ray gave the Blackfish he caught to us and plus my dads Blackfish all up was 5 Fat Healthy Black fish!

I'd Like to say thankyou to Ray for your Genorosity of giving your Blackfish! :biggrinthumb::thumbup:

The pics are too big but there will be more pics of this sesh soon!

  9. Hi Raiders, been well and truly bitten by the luderick bug, this past week I have been around the rocks about 8 times and each time I have found atleast one fish to chomp on my weedy offerings.

My best day was last sunday when I landed 17 blackies in a 2.5 hour session, most of these went back, kept 6.

I had arvos of 9, 7, 5 and 8 fish as well and today I found 4 blackies and a nice pig which might I add really gave the blackie gear a work out, I kept him and 2 blackies and the other 2 went back.

I think what I enjoy about this fishing is firstly the ease of bait and berley gathering and the then the anticipation of not knowing when that little stem float will slowly receed.

Anyway that's it for now, not many pics considering the fish caught but sometimes it's very hectic and photos take a back seat...

Guess what I'm doin tomorrow, yeah baby I need another luderick injection...

This is my biggest so far at around 44cm's..

  10. Hi Raiders, I had a couple of hours to spare this arvo so I took the blackfish gear around the rocks.

The conditions were good with some nice wash, had to coax the blackies in with some mashed up weed

    and soon they were there.

Started at a depth of around 10feet and worked my way back to about 7 feet and this was the depth

    they were feeding.

Nice arvo again and caught a few tasty blackies...

Good Catch Ray r . Any of my mates been ther?

  11. G'day Raiders, I had a few hours to spare this arvo so I shot off around the rocks at Avoca for a fish.

The conditions were very calm and I had no bait apart from some bread, weed and gravelly sand .

I made up a berley mix with this and soon had some interest from our finned friends.

I caught a luderick on weed using my traditional blackie gear but that was it, so I started using my light outfit

using a mix of bread and weed.

Rig was just a no:1 suicide hook to a leader with a swivel for weight, very simple but it worked.

Ended up having a fun time with heaps of fish caught, one of the trevs was a good size and he really gave me a fight.

Apart from the fish pictured I caught 2 small pigs around 25-28cms another small bream and a few more small trevs

under the 30cm mark and one tiny blackfish..

So that was my arvo, glad I went as it was a beautiful day... :1fishing1::biggrin2:

  12. G'day raiders. I've been a member for quite a while but this is my first actual report.

Decided to go wet a line after work on Friday afternoon, tried to get to the bait store before it closed but missed it by 10 minutes…. :ranting2: Had a decent sized frozen squid I caught recently and ended up getting some servo pillies and prawns. Met my mate Chris down at Drummoyne boat ramp around 6:30pm and headed out in my 14ft tinny. Was originally heading out to Sow & Pigs but as we got close the swell was really bouncing the boat around so we decided to explore some calmer waters. We found some fish on the sounder as we were cruising near Rose Bay, even though we haven’t fished this spot before we thought we would give it a go so anchored up and dropped a few baits down. :1fishing1:

The first 2 hours produced heaps of undersized snapper around 30cm and couple of bust offs by something with teeth. I decided to rig up the Baitrunner loaded with 20lb braid and throw the squid head out. Within a few minutes it got smashed and busted off almost instantly, something with teeth nailed it as line had a clean cut. I re-rigged, put on a decent sized squid strip and sent it back out to soak, not even 10 minutes later I heard line coming off the Baitrunner really slowly. I let it run for a little while before flicking the Baitrunner off and then BOOM! The rod buckled over zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…. Something with a lot of weight and power was on the other end of the line and all I could do was hold on as line was peeling off the reel. This thing felt like I hooked up to a freight train, the first run lasted over 2 minutes!! Chris was getting the other lines out of the water but one had tangled around my line……. I’m so thankful Chris knew what he was doing as with a quick slash with a sharp knife, he got my line free and I was back in business. About 10 minutes into the fight I thought I had it in the bag but once it saw the boat it took off again zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz this run lasted about a minute but this time it ran straight under the boat. I had the rod in the water while Chris was tilting the motor up so I didn’t get cut on the prop. I wasn’t having much luck leading the fish to the back of the boat but this horse had so much strength it actually pulled the boat around. :yahoo: No complaints from me as once the boat had spun around, the line came out from underneath the boat and I was back into him again.

15 minutes into the fight and I had finally got close to the boat again, my heart was pumping a million miles an hour from adrenalin and anticipation of seeing whatever this was but once it saw my boat the rod buckled over again and it went for another run. This run only lasted about 30 seconds and once it was done I think he had completely spent himself as didn’t do much apart from the odd head shake on the way back in. When it finally came up I couldn’t believe my eyes, it was a horse of a JEWFISH!! :1yikes: Chris tried to net it but could only fit the head in so I grabbed the Boga grips, and managed to get a lip grip on. We struggled to pull it into the boat but once we did we realised just how big this fish really was……….

This horse went 135cm and I’m calling around 35-37kg (tried to weigh it but it was off the 60lb scales). This is only the 2nd Jewie I have caught and by far the biggest fish I have ever caught in my life!!!!!!!!

We kept fishing and pulled out a few decent sized bream, a couple port Jackson sharks, some sort of little reef shark and a good sized gummy shark around 6kg, all went back in as this Jewie would feed an army.

Some yakka’s had come up the burley trail so I caught one and sent it out unweighted. Fishing went a bit quiet and we made the call to leave in the next 10 minutes when I heard the Baitrunner start to take line. Again I let it run for a few second then pumped the handle and I was on! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz another Jewie!!! This one only had 1 good run in him and then I was able to knock him over fairly quickly. It was a little green when it got to the boat gave us both a bath when we were grabbing it out of the water. The small jewie went 92cm (well not small but smaller than the big boy), what a way to end the best Sydney Harbour fishing session of my life…… :yahoo:

I was going to enter this into the catch of the month comp but didn’t read about the spool of line until after it had been filleted, ah well I think the capture was the real prize anyway.

    hey mate ,

congratulation on that big jewie of a lifetime im so jealous

    cheers bangus

  13. hello raiders,

  14. :biggrin2: G'day Raiders, been away for a couple of weeks up Crescent Head area. Hutcho and I along with our families and a bunch of other friends made our 30th April hol to the area.

We like to have a fish or two while we are up there and we did manage a few fish in amongst the waves. There were a heap of small whiting there this year with the ratio of about one keeper for every ten fish caught, didn't matter to us though as being up at dawn with a buddy fishing on beach with no one but yourselves and a beautiful sunrise is all worth it. Went around the rocks at Racecourse Headland a couple of times and found schools of tailor and bonnies busting up, we had some fun with these until we had enough of them, also scored a few bream on the cunji which is all over the rocks, I had a small mishap on those evil volcanic type rocks as well, one small slip produced 2 very scratched shins.

So that's were I have been, enjoying some camping, fishing, campfire drinks and a lot of enjoyment with a great bunch of folks.

As usual I managed a few pics to share with you..

  15. g'day raiders, I went for a spur of the moment jew session last night in the harbour and didnt go too bad. I finished work a little after 5pm and after battling with traffic and organising the boat and gear I finally arrived on the spot around 9pm. The plan was to fish either side of the high tide but unfortunately after arriving later than I had planned, the tide had already turned so I fished the first of the run out until about 12.30am. I managed 3 small jew between 55cm and 63cm and a nice 35cm snapper. I also lost another similar fish when the trace snapped and was also bitten off once by another fish that I suspect was a large tailor.

  16. Hello Chaps, Talk to anyone that goes fishing around Sydney and just about everyone loves to catch them, most of us can catch a good feed of them when they are running , but come winter you can waste allot of time looking for them using everything and end up coming home without even a bite, im not asking anyone to name your favorite spots , anything that you would like to share that might come in handy such as baits, tackle , rigs, tides , times, shallow or deep water, winter or summer. what are the best times for river, bay, rocks, or surf? ETC thank you all.

i caught hips of big bream on winter specially on low tide while fishing for jewie at kissing point wharf . the best bream fishing for me is winter , i caught them on live yellowtail , yellowtail fillets , fresh frozen squid . i normally fish at the start of 5pm till 3am in the morning

    cheers bangus

  17. G,day raiders (Bangus jr doing the report again!)

On Anzac night we decided to go to Kissing point wharf I wasnt feeling that we were going to catch a jewie since that we only had one squid left and hight tide at 3am. And i said "No way are we going to catch one at all!" but how wrong was I! we arrived there at 7pm and only two people were there surprised that it was 'SNAG-KING' It was good to meet you I riged up for yellowtail and tried to catch some but they weren't on the bite. SNAG-KING caught one and gave it to me for livey 'THANKS FOR THAT' and riged up for live yellowtail and tried to catch some yellowtail my self I caught a few and after the last ferry went it was time to put out the big rods two rods with yellowtail fillets and one rod with live bait chucked them out and the waiting game began!. After one hour the place was packed as we were looking at our rods we noticed our live bait rod was tipping after a few nibbles the rod bended right over ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!. My dad took the rod out of the rod holder and set the drag and set the hook WERE IN! after a few minutes of tussling in the net 72cm jewie took a few pics and released him  him:biggrin2: chucked another livey out after a few minutes ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!! :yahoo: I took the rod out of the rod holder STRIKE! I thought i set the hook then POP the live yellowtail came flying at me :1badmood: looked at the livey that was still hooked :1yikes: that must of been a big boy very very DISAPPOINTED out live yellowtail so we decided its time to put out the only squid 1 hour past looked at the rod bended right over ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! this must be the one :yahoo: STRIKE! he must be hooked started winding and pumping suddenly the rod flicked strait and every thing felt lighter NOOO!!!!! :ranting2: EVEN MORE DISAPPOINTED as the hours past by nothing I got a bit bored so i decided to clean the place up a bit the place looked more better when i was finished :biggrin2: nothing else on the rod so decided its time to go home! here are the pics enjoy
