  1. Great report Greg, you got my casting arm twitching!

Is that a thunnus i see in one of those pictures? , im looking for a heavyish kingy spinning combo, i cannot afford the likes of the saltiga's but what would you rekon after your experience throwing poppers?

  2. Hey steve, ive seen the kingbolt in pictures and it looks great!, the guys on tackletour.com seem to favour it as there test rod for some of the lighter spinnning reels. Im yet to see one in the flesh but they look very nice in the pics!

What did u think of the fireblood in comparison??

  3. Well after using dads outfit last week , i was pretty impressed with the advantage rod. Went into the tackle shop and tried out a few and ended up choosing the same, it felt the best and was good value , and great build quality!

Yesterday i flicked plastics around in the morning , couldnt catch a fish to save my life during that session ,unlike mario & co . :074:

Returned in the arvo to try and get something on the last of the rising tide , i hooked up a half decent trev, but being the first time hooked up on the outfit..the drag wasnt set properly and it didnt last to long.

After that i had to leave so decided a mid morning session was in order.

Went down about 9am~ thismorning , was very windy and managed my first fish on the new outfit, a humble flatty :074: , considering the conditions i was pretty pleased.

No monster at roughly 40cm but nice to get one.

Jeez, i love not having to go to work :biggrin2:

  4. Recently ive been catching frogmouth pilchards, baby pilchards and small slimies on the smaller versions.

    They work dreams sometimes!

I have used them unweighted with sucess - esp on garfish!, but tangles become a major issue with no weight. I prefer to use a jig head on the bottom insted of a conventional sinker.

  5. Might keep this one brief as i have dinner awaiting me.

Wanted to test dad's new outfit this arvo as he was at work and i was bored... :1prop:

The outfit is a daiwa calida kix 2500 matched with a daiwa advantage rod rated 8~14 lb, beautiful, i wont be going back to shimano for the smaller spinning reels! (soooooo smooth!)

Anyway back to the fishing, first cast i had a nice hit form a tailor and saw a school of salmon, tailor and a lone king following!

And so on it went from there, baitfish everywhere, the fish were not busting up but you could see the baitfish compact into a tight ball (more like the size of a mini bus :1yikes: )

I ended up with 1 trevally at 40cm , 4 tailor landed upto 40cm , 1 FAT salmon landed at 60cm , 2 more lost of equal or larger size after the hooks pulling and 8 other bite off's from tailor. (pretty expensive!)

All fish were taken on 3" bass minow's in the clear and pearl watermelon colours using 1/24 jigheads.

By the way this summer is shaping up...its gonna be an absolute ripper!

Ceph that would be awesome , will send u my email

Deffinatley gonna go and check out the starlo stix and daiwa rods, i havnt seen anywhere that sells the nitro rods locally which is a bit of a bummer.

  7. Thanks guys

I think matraville is just a bit far for me to go unfortunatley:(

I will be using if for harbour pelagics , most likely to be spooled up with 6 or 8 pound braid.

  8. Hey guys, i recently ordered one and am undecided what rod to match it on. I dont have big bux to spend as i used most of them up on the reel. Does anyone have any reccomendations , im looking at spending upto about $250.

  9. Was a fun session, did some wading on the flats around clontarf which was something new for me, prety fun though!, tom managed to drop a nice flattie at his feet about 45~50cm , i managed a smaller model of about 30 :biggrin2: , although i couldnt catch a squid to save my life last night!

    Here are those pics -

My internet at home is broken at the moment other wise i would have replied earlier.., yeah the schools are a mix of the 3 types that tom mentioned, no wonder they get smashed!

The trev went 53.5cm and the salmon 50cm
