  1. do mercs need a special fitting for the grease nipples?

using the standard fitting that came with the gun i tried to lube the nipples today but the grease just oozed out the sides.

it was quite a loose fit over the nipple and didnt seem to depress the centre valve opening.

can someone please set me straight. thx.

  2. visual inspection under the cowl showed nothing out of the ordinary.

there are spits of black and silver on the underside of the stator but only on the side of the starter - i assume its paint from the underside of the flywheel and tiny filings from the flywheel/starter pinion.

    gear oil looks normal.

kicked it over to try remind myself of the noise - 10 mins at idle (F/N/R) and the noise didnt seem to cut in at any time, and could only hear carby induction drone.

im tempted to take it out for another run........

  3. i noticed this on the last trip out, a highish pitch intermittent whining/scraping noise coming from the motor.

it happens whether in gear or neutral and at various throttle applications, and cuts in and out randomly.

any ideas where to start looking for the prob? i was thinking that it may be coming from under the flywheel and have sprayed some inox into that area as a first measure.

its a merc 40hp us built 2 stroke.

    thanks.

  4. We anchored up at Molli Pt where there was a big rolling swell cumin in. I can still feel myself

swaying as if I were still on the water.

ive never found mol pt a good spot during large swells. although that could be put down to the head/stomach feeling of the fisherman.

  5. just wanted to add the fishing has being fairly good up till now and with out being peek season so i assume things are only going to get better in the up in coming months but im still concerned about the dredging and long term affect it will have on the bay. i was catching more fish consistently when the trawlers were working the bay i think the numbers are down over all and the size of the bream so were have all the fish gone beats me it is getting harder to get a good catch these days but were not going off one day but averages over summer fishing period.

    cheers Jim bream

    hi jim,

i fished the bay yesterday too, without the same success, plenty of 25-27cm bream which were thrown back. also found plenty of tiny reds taking all my nippers :mad3: and noticed some unusual currents around where the dredge pipe is currently floating. im with you i think the dredging has changed the dynamics of the bay recently.

  6. hi all, first report, and not much of one at that.

started at the leisurely hour of 0900 and got a few keeper flathead amongst a plague of undersized snapper around the dolls point area.

moved to molineaux point and again the snapper were there, though this time amongst a bunch of micro sized leatherjackets (lucky to be 10cm), which chewed through a few of the lines.

went to the runways hoping for a feed, only to result in zip (except for heaps of undersized snapper).

must have ended up with 40+ undersized snapper, none of which ill ever see again in the bay. it kinda annoys me that you never seem to get any decent snapper in the bay, only those pesky undersized bait stealers!!!

anyways atleast i got to race the SQ A380 down the runway on the way back to the ramp.

  7. my 134 says only 110kg on the plate and rego papers.

anyways ive seen a honda jazz (1.5/CVT) easily pull a fully decked out 4.2 runabout out of kyeemagh before, so the yaris should be fine for the short runs. just make sure there isnt any sand covering the ramp.
