  2. was out and about monday arvo for a a landbased fish up around little manly

fishing live yakkas hooked up on a metre and a bit of 15kg mono trace running off a floaty down to 8kg mono

i too was duly frustrated after being busted off twice by quite large kingies, both kings took me on a run of a good 40-50 metres before busting me off at my float

any tips that may help me to land the prestige fish

    cheers

up ya leader mate, id be usin 50lb braid and 80lb leader for big kings, what gear ya usin?

    rod reel?

Personaly I think it was designed with the 8" and 10" screens in mind as they have a higher resolution

in saying that the picture on my HDS 7 is still very good and surprising how much detail it shows.

I could clearly see rocks, trees etc. Baitfish schools are more defined.

I paid $875 for it and it took a couple of hours to install as I had to drill through the transom!

Is it worth it? Still need to use it to find more fish! A lot of money for something that MAY helpto find fish.

It is a lot better picture than the normal sonar image and easier to "read" mine maintains bottom lock at max speed!

hmmm nearly a grand n drillin holes in my transom?

i think id use it more for finding jewholes, ect,

my hds5 maintained bottom locked at 65kmh, which is flat oout in me old haynes, haha

th sounder n riggers worth as much as th boat..

where did yu pick it up from mate,

i think ill have a play with someones b4 forkin out a grand,

    thanks mate.

    Dale

  4. Dale,

I have been out to the FAD's a few times wilt no real success. I have 1 at the terrigal FAD on a Pink skirt, 1 at the Broken Bay FAD on a purple skirt and 1 that I saw free jumping on the way back near a fish trap on a blue skirt. None drifting baits or casting lures and all under sized (50-60cm) right next to the FAD so as of last week not there yet for me anyway. I think I am going to give it another go sunday bound to turn up one of these trips.

    Rob

    cheers rob,

we were thinkin bout goin out of BB tomorrow to th FAD, but, i dont think i will bother..

i dont know where ill go, any suggestions lol

    cheers

    Dale

As I sit here to type this out, it has been 4 days since last time I casted a rod. My ring and baby fingers still hurt plus the left side of my neck cracks and creeks every time I stretch it! That’s 3x hour and a half massages later with plenty of lying around pool eating and drinking with nothing much more! What gets the body to such a state when your suppose to be on holidays?

Doing this 4-500 times a day with a freaking huge lure on the end!

    post-3563-1248473251_thumb.jpg

Then you have to blop a Cubera 125 popper. 125gms, 170mm long back to the boat or twitch back a 230mm stick bait as hard as you can!

    post-3563-1248473269_thumb.jpg

Bugatti Reef is situated around a 45min sea plane ride east of Hamilton Island. The plane ride gives you a good idea on what you’re about to fish over the next week.

Mother shipping is the best way to really fish these remote areas. The tenders give you access to shallow sections and blue holes in the reef. Bugatti is known for its GT fishing so casting huge poppers and stick baits was the preferred method. Big tackle was only used just as the same as single hooks with crushed barbs. Stella 1800 reels and Ripple Fisher rods made casting and fighting fish easier. 100lb braid with 100lb twisted leaders were minimum, (2x 100lb in 1) I’d hate to use gear that was anything less in such coral infested water!

    post-3563-1248473735_thumb.jpg

Fishing was tough going but enough bites to keep you casting all day long. Technique was everything to get bites and keep them on your line. It was hard to not strike and just wind onto the fish before you try to “rip it’s ____ing head off” as the guides would say it! This type of fishing is definitely not for everyone but hell it’s addictive!

Nothing compares to a 30kg fish smashing lures off the surface, a reel screaming off with near 10kgs of drag, your body thrown against the side of the boat with you screaming “I think I got one!” Heaven I tells ya!

I was very lucky with the group I was with. Guys from many different backgrounds and I only new 3 at the start. By the end of the trip I had made many new friends and contacts. We all swapped around fishing on each of the boats with different guides and fishers. It kept it interesting and learnt many new things every day. The knots and rigging were totally amazing and I have many more hours of practice ahead of me to get close to these guys! Well I think I have found my new addiction and now I’ll never laugh at guys telling me I need to start training 3 months out before the trip.....
