Good write up mate.
Btw that 'stomach' they throw up, I think that's their bouyancy Bladder. Usually get that from deeper water fish like gems/blue eye.
Persistance is key with Jewie fishing.

In my opinion, it really depends on your beach fishing style.
Personally, I'm a lazy ass. If I go beach fishing, All i want to do is stick the rod down on the holder and relax with a cold one. In my case, I would opt for a Baitrunner. No need for tightening up drag when you hook up, just lock the handle. I use a Baitrunner 12000D, quite big but an 8000D would do the job.
If you're planning on spinning on the surf as well, as everyone mentioned a 6000/8000 size reel would do the job quite well.
Remember with Beach fishing, be prepared to clean your reel after use or have fun using a cement mixer the next time you go out (Sand with Saltwater spray doesn't go well with reels).
Again, depends if you're planning to use the reel for multiple purposes.

agree with sidfisher, sufix 832 does the job well. Ive currently spooled my certate 2010 2506 with 6lb and havent had any wind knot issues and doesnt take that much water (might be the gore thats its stranded with.
But i think any 8 strand braid would do a good job. For that line class, id prol go 8-10lb but 15lb will do the job
BTW i love the TZ, maybe i shoulda spent the extra coin and got the guided version instead of the luvias

IMHO, i wouldn't use really light line class rods off the rocks. It may seem fun to catch your odd salmon or even king using light gear, however you need to worry about landing the fish (unlike boat fishing).
btw i had a look at the new t-curves and personally, i'm not a fan. Aesthetically, they look better than the old ones, but the components they used on the old ones are of better quality.
Personally, im sticking with Daiwa for Rods these days

ive got both the sea jigger and spinfisher big game.I must admitt the spinfisher is an under rated rod. Before i bought the sea jigger, i used and abused the spinfisher. its quite light for a carbon composite rod, and tough enough to withstand being thrown around on the rocks. I used to think i can cast far with this rod until i bought the sea jigger.
After casting with thre seajigger, the spinfisher feels quite heavy in comparisson. You can pretty much spin the whole day with 85gm metals.
In terms of price, the spinfisher can now be bought for 100ish (paid 170 3 years back), but the sea jigger can be bough for about 230 to 250.
in my option if the only thing your gonna do is spin and use lures, go for a full graphite rod. Just be extra carefull dropping or high sticking it.
i heard shimano has some new rock/beach rods but i heard they were rubbish.

Mate, I've got the Stradic Ci4 paired up with a shimano Jewel (1-4kg).
Not the best rod, but i must say it's well balanced.
I've laid 8lb power pro line and the line is great! doesn't catch to much water and never had any braid knots etc.
But if i had a choice now, i'd problem pair it up with a t-curve flight.

planning on fishing avoca today, would it be worth the trek? i'm about an hour away and if conditions are too rough, then its a waste of a drive.

Isn't Mojiko an BLAH BLAH BLAH specific rod (i.e. only sold at BLAH BLAH BLAH stores?).. IMHO i haven't used them, but i'm assumming they would be on-par with BCF's branded BOSS.
I checked out their website and don't forget that even though they have fuji guides, like anything, there are lower ends and higher ends of the scale.
but yeah, could be a top rod..

ended up with a bit of an upgrade...
ordered in 7ft 2pc 2-4kg trion and was told it was ready to be picked up. went to the store and was told they had to send it back as they were sent thr wrong one. instead i scored a trion tournament bream 2pc for the same price.
also picked up a saros 2500 and some 4lb fins to use on one of the spools
hoping to test it out this weekend

Funnily enough, you've got the same combo as STYLO... (i.e. Trion Tournament / Saros 2500). Out of curiosity, how much did you pick it up for?

Not bad, you're pretty much getting it half price ( the reel that is). A 6000 series seems quite small for a 13 foot rod, but it really depends what you're using it for. If it's for the beach and rocks, 13 foot is a good size. I'm using a 12 foot and 11 foot for the stones and I get adequate clearance from the rocks. At times I wished I had a 13 foot (fishing off port kembla). Just keep in mind that a 13 foot isn't the most practical rod, it's mainly used for just for beach and rocks. I couldn't imagine myself lugging it around wharves or jetties. Also if your the type to hold your rod, prepared to get tired of carrying it. A 10 foot rod would be ur best bet for an allrounder rod. Good enough for the surf, you can get away with it at some rock platforms and can lug around to ur wharf or jetty.
IMHO I'm not a fan of the pflueger surf rods. They make top notch breaming gear, but I was contimplating on getting the contender surf rod a while ago, but I opted for the uglystik gold. The contender just seemed and felt like a rebranded Jarvis walker

Actually, the penn spin fisher big game is actually a carbon composite blank hence why it doesn't snap as easy as full graphite rods i've used.

Haven't found nothing wrong with it. Like yourself, i bought mine on impulse aswell and paired it up with a 1-4kg Shimano Jewel Rod.. I must admit its one of the lightest combo's i've used. So far i've only been using it for catching livies and squid (abit of an overkill combo if you ask me - just for catching bait), but i'll be stocking up on SP's soon cause all mine dried up.
But yeah, best bream combo i've used... (stylo can probably vouch for this one)

As stylo mentioned, The Penn Spinfisher Big Game is a good rod, however its full graphite. In saying that i've got an 11 foot one at home and to be honest, i don't give it respect at the rocks. I drop it, put it between rocks etc and i've had no dramas. Only problem is, the reel eat is quite high

the saltist 4500h seems to be a good option. the weight seems ok as well.
the only issue being that it doesn't come with a spare spool. I would like to have spool with mono and braid, but I think I'll just take the plunge with braid.
what breaking strain do people use? I've always used 20lb mono.
I use 30lb braid, 20 lb is enough to be honest..

what size saragosa would you recommend. The 5000 + 8000 are the same weight whereas the 600 is heavier??? I don't get it.. If the 8000 is lighter than the 6000 I would get the 8000
To be honest, the saragosa is abit of a jigging reel. For that price range, i'd opt for the sustain 6000.
The sustain 6000 has a retrieve per crank of 107 and 13kg of drag where as the saragosa 6000 has a retrieve rate of 91cm per crank and 12kg of drag.
Dont get me wrong, both are great reels but i'd rather the sustain for spinning than the saragosa.

i'll be bait fishing mostly with this rod. As I like to use a lighter setup for spinning.
How do you find hookup rates with the braid? Also, how do you find the wear on the braid with a large star sinker?
The Stradic looks the goods at this point. I would think a 6000 would be the go. How does it compare to a 560 slammer?

i don't see much of a difference in terms of hookups with braid/mono when bait fishing. I guess you've just got that stretch when you go mono.
The stradic is a good reel, but preference wise i prefer the saragosa or sustain.. each to their own i guess
Don't forget you'll have to budget an extra 50-80 bucks more for braid =)

i've just recently gotten back into a few sessions on the stones after a few years of getting onto the light breaming scene.
I need to upgrade some of my gear and was wondering what new is out there to match up with my 12f ugly stick 5-10kg rod? Price wise i would say anything under $350 and would need to hold a decent amount of 20lb mono. Any recommendations?
Also, would you recommend using say 30lb braid? i've never used braid off the stones.

Hi Autocad,
It really depends what exactly you'll be doing off the rocks (i.e. spinning, baiting both). Off the rocks I usually have two rods on the go.
11 foot penn spinfisher with a penn slammer 760L (if using float or bait)
12 foot UglyStik Gold with a seido 10000 for spinning (the seido was stolen, now i'm using a shimano twin power 6000)
For that price range, i'm sure you can get a Saragosa 8000 or sustain 6000 (abit more pricey)..
For spinning, i don't use anything else but braid (with a mono leader), in saying that i dont think i've got any reels with mono on it
I'm a shimano guy, so i'm sure some other members can recommend other brands.

Depends on your budget, however i second Mulloway Man's suggestion.
Go for a caldia, hella cheap for what you're buying.
