  1. at the moment ive found the enrtrance to be complete guess work. last week was going for a fish then prawn, run out was ment to start at 630pm. got there at 1 pm to find it running out. slowed down a little and kind of ran in for mabey an hour at around 7pm then ran out again until we were leave at about 2 am. is a major pain when u have a largish boat trying to get out of ourimbar creek at the moment when u cant find a high tide since its so shallow these days =(

  2. hey just thought id give all you blokes a heads up that there is a scam going on at the moment that i was almost victim of.

long story short i was selling a motor bike online, had someone contact me asking questions and eventually giving me an offer,

they then claimed that they had placed money for bike in my pay pal account plus an extra $950 for shipping.

i then recieved an email from what appeared to be paypal, requesting that i pay the shipping money out of my own pocket then the full money will be released into my account.

this is when i got sus and downloaded a program that verifys email addresses. to find out that email was actually from a different email that was discised as paypal.(if anyone has recieved simliar and wants to know scam email address say so, wasnt sure if i could publish it)

my question is, is there anything you can do or anyone you can report this activity to so that they dont scam anyone else?

    any help would be appreciated

    regards mark

  3. hey raiders, weathers looking good to duck outside tomoz.

  4. i was lucky and was given the oppertunity to gain my coxman certificate through high school, had to complete marine fire fighting, liferaft training, first aid courses and all kinds of stuff. i got my log book and have completed may hours on my own personal vessel but am unsure whether it qualifys to put in my log book. i am also very interested in this post and was also wondering if anyone knows anything about this what size boat qualifys for my hours. i currentley own a 32 ft cruiser

  5. As Flattyslayer will probably testify to also......

The Entrance is way over fished atm and way to many people.

They're keeping EVERYTHING they catch no matter how small it is, there doesn't seem to be a bag or size limit there haha.

Try Lake Macquarie, outside Swansea or Terrigal, probably have more luck and you wont be standing shoulder to shoulder fishing or boat to boat.

yer it is a major shame! had blokes next to me a few weeks ago when i was prawning keeping everythng they caught, despite our "throw it back" chants, pity there is no 24 hr fisheries hotline(that i am aware of) to report these wastes of oxygen too,

im sure big king is cuirous as well but do you know anywhere or terrigal leo, as i have been meaning to try off there for a while, but just figured i stay to what i know.

    cheers

  6. yer i agree with leo, a 4wd is a must for norah head, especially with the big tides we are having,if there is zero swell and you time tides right can be done with a sedan but if unfamiliar with ramp or novist should not be attempted.i planning on heading out there tomoz so if i make it ill let you know how we go.

as for BIG flathead, head up to swansea(20 mins nth) or down to paddys channel(woy woy)

both spots produce some monstors, caught and released 2 both over 90cm last week down paddys channel, for big flattys ive found livebait or softies is the only way to go,

up at swansea there is plenty of live mullet to be caught at the sport and rec camp beach( think its point woolsoton craft someone may be anle to verify this) and as for brissy water i just use yakkas which you can get at flat rock ( near lobstor beach)a bonus from brissy water is its not uncommon to pick up a little jew on the yakkas to, which is great fun on ur light flaty gear =)

  7. Flathead and whiting have been two of the targets for the last couple of years, but there is no guarantee it will be the same again this year. Generally they are species from river or estuary, which enables land based fishos to participate as well. All will be revealed on the Eve of the Challenge :yahoo: Good luck!

    Cheers

ok thanks for thats, hopefully see plenty of raiders out on the water that day, good luck to all :1fishing1:

  8. hi all,

i am planning in entering the pirtek challange this year,

i no alot of raiders enter each year and was hoping on getting some info i cant find on the site.

i will be in the nsw comp, and was trying to find out if any fish are in it every year, or even just the tageted nsw fish for the last few years.

or is there anyway to find out not specifically what fish you will be targeting but maby if they are estury/ocean, or what gear to stock up on ect? coz i would have all kinds of trouble fitting my gear for ALL types of fishing in the boat lol

as i said im new to the challenge and if i am out of line asking any of this, admin please feel free to remove this post.

    any help apresiated,

    flattyslayer

  9. the entrance is great for flatties on soft plastics, at the moment if you drift up the nth channel you will catch one after another, not huge in size but all good fun,

and as for kingies, if you drive about ten mins nth theres a boat ramp at cabbage tree bay, can catch good numbers of squid casting stright onto reef from ramp, or once boat is launched head nth to hargraves reef, throw some bread out and will have a tank of yakkas in no time.

once you have bait, head back down sth towards lighthouse and you will see a bommie maby 500 m of shore, down rig or just send the livies out around there(called "the bull") and hang on,

is alot of rats mixed in but the bigger fellas have been lurking around too.

also have heard alot about terrigal for kings but to try it out personally.

    good luck mate

  10. That first video is not Swansea Bridge.

    Second video is definitely Swansea.

Anyone know location of first one??

i think the first one is swansea too, you can see the diver shed thing and the new high rise building on the right.

  11. kingys are at the swansea bridge as mentioned heres a couple videos

thanks everyone for the quick replys, after watching that video i think i may be investing in a downrigger =)

is the best spot the get squid still up near murrys beach or are there some better spots to give a try?

  12. hi all,

also where up there is good for poddies, yakkas or even just to pump a few nippers.

  13. Looking at Saltist 40h and tyrnos 16. Fish between 50 to 100 metres for pearlies, reds, kings etc.

Summer chase shallow water cobia 20 to 35 metres. trying to figure which reel covers these types

of fishing best. Rod will probably be Live Fibre 8 to 13 kilo. Any input greatly appreciated. No jigging.

    ( too old). :biggrin2:

    Cheers.

i bought a saltist 40h last may, used to have 20lb braid on it and use it for kings off terrigal and norah head, resently went for a trip up to barrier reef and upped it to 50lb braid, handled anything i threw at it great, smoothest and nicest reel ive used in a long time

  14. Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone might be able to shear any info on the larger southwind boats like the 640. I've read a few reviews by pro's but can't find any feedback from people that aren't being paid to drive them. Just wondering if they have any outstanding faults or quirks that out weigh the good qualities in the long run. Am looking at a 2004 sf640 platinum, 225 Yamaha 4 stroke with300hrs. All the extras. (out riggers are the only thing missing)...... $50 000. Does that sound reasonable?

    Thanks for any help.

    Dan.

hey, i spent 2 weeks using one up around keppel,

couldnt have asked for a better boat for it, i was really suprised how well they handle the swell even at high speeds,

we were in a sf 655

  15. went out crabbing in tuggerah lake on thurs and ran into fisheries, was great to see them in the lake for once but would have been nice if they made there way over into the entrance to get some of these tourists i saw keeping baby fish rather then confiscating anyones crab traps that had names slightly faded, ( yes i may have had one disappear) lol,

plenty of good size blue swimmers in the lake but on the plus side
