  1. I was chatting to a couple of fisho last night and an old bloke on his boat kept pulling out a bottle and adding a few drops to the burley bombs he was putting over the side. After some time it got too much for me and I had to ask what it was.

To my surprise he showed me a bottle of fish sauce and he had been using it for a number of years now. Does anyone add this to their burley? It would be interesting to see how well or not it works.

By the way he swears bream and snapper go nuts for the fish sauce. I'm still sceptical as they did not bring in any fish while I was nearby.

  2. It looks ok, but the smell is another thing if its really offensive. I rinse my weed in fresh saltwater after collecting and give it a quick run in a lettuce dryer or give it a good shake, then wrap it in kitchen towels and then wrap this in glad wrap if I am going to store it for a while. If its only for a day or so I still use the kitchen towel but wrap in a semi dry tea towel (only just wet) and it is always usable.

I try and separate any weed that looks brown, a bit dodgy, or slimy before storing.

  3. Jewgaffer,

This now sounds like the left hand does not know what the right hand is up to, so it must be a government department. I live just across the road from the Sutherland office of the MSB and have been in there twice to talk about these stickers and both times was assured they would come out with the rego renewal.

Typical that the RTA knows more than the MSB in a matter like this. I drive my boat on a freeway all the time with out the car!

SNAFU is the government's business practice.

  4. Welll you'd be a law breaker and the full force of the law should be used to incarcerate you. Don't you understand the importance of a little green sticker??? :1prop:

Maybe the guys were suffering repeatatve strain injury of the mouth on safety checks and needed to be able to ask a new question.

Just tell me that they are no pre printed with what MSB thinks your capacity should be as with different model boats especially cats and trihulls or wide beam boats there formula is very very conservative and doesn't take into accound ex survey boats etc.

Ahhhhh what the hell we can all use green plastic in a laser printer!!!!!!!!

Better check the boat who is inspecting you to see if he has his / hers!!!

No the new sticker has a peel off section of 2 row of number 1 - 0. You then say peel of 0 & 4 and put that on the sticker. Its not pre-printed.

I just got my rego papers and there was no GREEN STICKER with it

We are talking about a goverment department here swordfisherman. Its was stated that the new sticker would come with the rego, so you had better see your local MSB office. :05:

  5. Dont worry guys you have until your rego is due before you have to change the sticker and you WONT be finned if your found with the old yellow one till then. A new green one will be sent with your new rego papers and its for ALL boats new and old.

I had a fellow boatie tell me about 7 weeks ago on a ramp that I was breaking the law and that he could sell me the new sticker at cost price for $20 and that if I was caught with the old yellow I would have my boat confiscated forever. I declined his offer and checked it out at the Sutherland Maritime office the next day and they told me what I related to you in the 1st paragraph. So make sure you dont pay for the stickers from helpful guys at ramps.

I know they say a change is as good as a holiday, but all these changes are getting ridiculous.

  6. Hmm... does not look quite as exotic as the one in the post above, but maybe all the plant growth looking stuff died when the fish did.

How big is that one by the way? can't see the ruler clearly in the pic, but i'm guessing they don't get very big... although, it looks fat for its length.

I dont know how big it was exactly, but the ruler is a standard Alvey ruler. The fish weighed in at 600g which beat the previous record by 100g. The pic was taken about 2 hours after it came out of the water. From what I have been able to find out, they are a smaller growing species.

  7. thanks for the responses. very nice i wouldnt complain if i manage to land a salmon. ill be boating it. where did u get your salmon? these salmon are different from the $50kg salmon at the fish shop yeah? do they cook up well?

The Australian Salmon is not highly rated as food by anyone other than cats going by my experience and would not sell for 50 cents/kg let alone $50/kg. They are tough, sometimes when a good size full of worms and bruise very easily. Their flesh is white not the orange colour in the shops. A Greek mate of mine does eat them though.

I got my fishies today on the sand flats near the Ballast Heap between Lilly Pilly and Burraneer Bay. There were also some whiting of good size swimming around but I could not get them to take a bait. Water quality was fairly good this morning considering the rain. If the wind is calmer tomorrow I will go back just before high tide and try for the whiting again with different bait.

  8. I have been into the hacking 3 times in the last 10 days at night and nothing. Total waist of time at night. I went for a flick this morning 8am to 10am and caught 1 Salmon and a really nice Bream. I let the Salmon go as I dont like to eat them and gave the Bream to my mates mum, who I have asked to send me a pic before he cleans it. I will post it IF he send me the pic.

So in conclusion I think the day would be best. Are you going by boat or land based.

  9. I have the same setup you have mentioned and use it off the beach and the rocks. The only thing I did was to cut down the rear handle a little, but its a great rod. I also have an MT144 6 wrap and a 9 wrap. I dont use the 9 wrap, but both the 6 & 8 are great off the beach and rocks for me.

  10. I have always been told with the sounders to buy the cheapest and have a Navman 4432 on my boat. Paid $160 for it. I have seen other more expensive models both gray scale and colour and personally would not spend $600 - $1200 for a sounder as the show the same thing.

As for the GPS. I have never found a reason to use maps in the boat but this is a personal thing. I have a 20 year old hand held that I use for finding my secret spots out at sea etc.

  11. In a nutshell, for each trip, tabulate your results and look at the variables and their results. My results go back about 6 years - not very long but it has given me a reasonable insight...

    Good luck - c u out there.....

    Tony,

Any chance you could show us a copy of what sort of data you put into your spreed sheets?

  12. Just a quick FYI folks.

Fished Port Hacking tonight (seemed to be the only boat out) and I am now sure the fish there are in a coma or have run away from home. No mystery runs and bust offs. Between 7pm and 2.30am all I managed to get was 2 baby Snappers about 5cm long.

I seem to remember last year about this time the fishing being very good in the Hacking and on Botany Bay at night.

Just had another thought - UFO's are taking them!

  13. Hay Scotty,

By chance the boat your talking about was it a tiller steer, green hull with white top trim fiberglass boat with 2 blokes on board?

I see this clown in the hacking all the time and if he comes across someone fishing he must figure you are getting fish so he sits right on top of you. If you say something to him he carries on a treat. :1badmood::ranting2:

  14. I am a member of a fishing club and have been bait fishing for a while now, but have just started to get interested in Blackfish.

The Fishing Secretary said to me the only time to catch them was at night, but others say either day or night or some state the day is the only time. I know about using bread/burley for them.

So being somewhat confused I am now asking for a little help. Also anyone around the Sutherland Shire area that would be willing to help me catch my first Blackfish then you have my gratitude for life ().

  15. Hi,

I fish the bay all the time and last week got a good feed of trevally and some reasonable size bream. There was also plenty of shovelnose rays around too. If you can fish at night on the last of the run in, you can burley up some taylor on whole pilchards.

Others I know have been getting flathead by drifting, but the biggest I have managed so far this month was only about 4cm. Cute but not a feed!

This time of year I find burley is the trick.
