  1. Good luck Gus, hope you smashed some good sized barra. The dropping water levels as bad as they are, does make the fishing a whole lot better as it pushes the Barra into more accessible areas. It has to be one of the biggest dams full and at 100% its insane all the places the big bad barra can hide.

  2. As with most fish species, no mater what it is, Down sizing your line presence in the water will catch you more fish. This is where FC is more effective, having a line that has a near refractive index close to water it becomes "invisible" (I say invisible but in reality no mater what size or type of line it is you will be able to see it) this will help those tricky fish. FC has greater abrasion resistance as well. It is all personal opinion and thats just my 2 cents worth

  3. Well this time of year has glenbawn and st Clair fishing deep water (20-60ft) vertically (slow) rolling grubs on 1/8-1/4oz jig heads. Watching the sounder and searching for the schools is the best way to approach this. Make sure your sounder is tuned to see the decent of your line

  4. Thanks For the Replies every one :biggrinthumb:

Have already done another trip in it along with some heavy walking over the long weekend, Im absolutely beat haha.

Nursie: its a little Tiemco Shaky Bug, a soft plastic rigged on an unweighted jig head. Its a great lure, especially in the kayak as I can do some awesome skip casts with it!

Swordie: It will be great seeing you on a Yak down the Georges but i dare say a River Bison might be a bit more successful :bleh:

Hodgey: so many trips have already been planned, unfortunately so little time left in the bass season!

  5. Mate I cant help you with area's. But in terms of best lures, My favourites for the creeks are Tiemco soft shell cicadas, small 30-40mm crankbaits and 1/4oz-3/8oz spinnerbaits (Tiemco make some good ones of these too). Working areas where theres shade or at the tops or bottom of pools will yield the most success, listen for the cicadas singing and overcast days help too. good luck on your bass adventures!

  6. Poddy; Im the other way sometimes, as I hate loosing to fish haha. I feel as if sometimes dodgy knots happen and tackle can fail, but when its me on the fish and I drop him or get busted, there has to be a way to fix that and get it next time.

Roberta, I did the same thing with my first megabass lure........ so frustrating but you gotta love seeing it. casting over 6 racks, i can just imagine your face when you hook up 5 racks over!!!!

  7. Good luck with getting the goods Iceman, the hydrowaves are great!

Roberta it will be used mostly over the weeds or we will get the attachment to allow us to use it almost as a wind anchor (cant remember its name). I will also be used in Kinchant dam (and other barra ones) if you have been watching the AFC you would have seen some of the boys using it to hold in position over wee beds and cast into the holes/channels of the weed.

  8. No point in chucking $20-40 lures deep into tiger country though, it's just gonna hurt - still I do it in the heat of battle.

I have always lived by the motto, if you buy a lure.... use it! I dont buy $20 lures to not use them. Also adds to the heart pounding exhilaration of fighting a fish tight in structure!

  9. I must admit I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to originals or knockoffs. BUT I must admit thats because I love the finish of the pricey lures. Companies have put in alot of money to develop them and get them swimming correctly, so the copies just dont give me as much faith! As well as that I have found you will find more dud lures in the copies than the original (taking on water or not swimming straight).

Then again thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.

  10. I find if your knots are right it's more the leader that is the issue and within the first 10 seconds you will know if you will be done! But "touch wood" I have not had any issues with 4lb, surprisingly 3lb I have had heaps. Amazing what 1lb does..... To me at least.

The weedless surface lure is an awesome option lets you fish some knarly places. When using the weedless I go 8-10lb braid but have still landed fish in Lillie's with 4lb (sheer luck)

2500 size reel is also very helpful when bassing in rivers. Great line retrieval rate!
