Cheers Waza, very informative.

Cheers. You mean it's pretty dead because of the pollution?
-
Does anyone fish Manly lagoon still? I know it's polluted, but I tend not to keep anything anyway so that's not an issue.
I saw a bloke fishing it today when I drove past. Had me wondering if many people fish it still - if so, what are they targeting mainly in there?
-
If you're after a runabout, check out the haines 17R's and L's (the L shape is less of a runabout and more of a cuddy cabin style). They're both awesome boats with the same hull design just different top decks.
The 17's are a good size as they're easy to tow and can be handled by yourself, but safe enough to take wide - I've taken mine to the shelf.
Another boat to check out is the sea devil. -
For that same size and beam it's more like the 565 offshore (5.65m), or the 560 offshore (5.9m). They're lot larger boats.
I notice that the savage is only a L/S transom (20"). This would mean the deadrise is very shallow. This was one of the key criteraas for me - for comfortable offshore travel.
Any other considerations?
Also...why the turn around now?:
Hi Raiders, yesterday I had the pleasure to go to the Haines Hunter factory again for a dealer meeting and every time I have been there it is an impressive place and the boats have to be the best made fibreglass boats in Australia.
-
Keeping in fibreglass, what do you think is better design/value (in similar size)?
-
I want to see one "in the flesh" and have a chat to an actual owner about them.
-
Anyone here own a Haines hunter profish 535?
-
I'm starting to think that this may go in the "too hard basket".
-
All the wide jigging I've done has been on 37kg standup spin gear with 250-400g jigs. I've heard you can go lighter but there's gotta be no current.
Cheers Leo
Cheers Leo. What reels were you using that was holding enough line for 37kg?
Was it productive jigging at Browns? Hate to bust my balls for nothing.
-
What size spinning reel should I get for jigging Browns Mountain? I'm thinking a 18000 saragosa. Will it be too heavy?
Also, what strength braid should I go? Considering 30lb so I get more line on the reel.
One last question...what weight jigs do you tend to use the most there?
-
Looks like a large cuttlefish to me.
-
Cheers Tony. I assume then the pros don't put their traps on bare sand then. I suspect it must be patchy reef/broken bottom then - which is good to know.
-
I forgot to mention that these are pro traps and are in about 50m of water.
-
I've seen fish traps which I think are over sand. Would they be catching flathead or is the bottom not really sand (i.e broken bottom etc) and therefore getting reefies?
Do flathead swim into those fish traps?
-
Sounds like I should get a couple of spare spools and put the 50lb on them.
Cheers for the help

Cheers for info guys.
Next question...what should I use the 50lb braid for?
-
Thanks billfisher. I hear that the whiplash braid is pretty thin as well so I might go 20lb in that. What do you think? The 50lb I bought was the tufline.

Hi all,
Long time reader, 1st time poster (so be gentle).
I recently bought a couple of rods and reels for drift fishing over the 40-60m mark. I purchased some 50lb tufline braid for the reels and now I'm questioning whether I should go lighter (thinner diameter) as I haven't spooled the reels yet...actually, I haven't even received the rods/reels yet....
Recently I was out fishing (drifting over the 40m-60m mark in a bit of wind) and my mate was using quite thick braid (we have no idea of the breaking strain as the reel was 2nd hand and came with the braid). I, on the other hand, was using thin 20lb braid on my 4000 spinning reel (making do until my rods/reels turned up). We noticed that since my braid was thinner, my line was getting to the bottom a lot quicker and also staying nearer the bottom while drifting (requiring less work to keep it on the bottom). Should I opt for a thinner diamater braid for this fishing then and so go down to say 20-30lb?
Cheers.
McCarrs creek bass
in Freshwater Fishing Chat

Can you target bass in McCarrs creek? Never targeted bass and never fished the creek so don't know much about either. I happened to be driving back from Akuna bay and drove over the creek and it got me wondering about bass there. Would it be too high for them there? Looks like a few small waterfalls around there not sure if it would be too much for the bass to get up them.
