  1. Howd'y guys,

Check out the yellowfin I picked up outside Nara Inlet on the whitsundays in November. Not sure what was better the sailing or the fishing. Also caught a Barracuda & a spanish mac but no pics of them! By the time we finished having x3 meals from the tuna, fish was off the taste bud menu

thats actually a northern bluefin (longtail) tuna. nice fish anyway

    your reel's upside down!

  2. cheers mate ... when i get rays i keep gettin them and when i've baited and got a jew.... no rays... this is good to hear as i've wondered wether its worth persisting after hooking up doggies or rays.....

no reason why the jews wouldn't be there when all the other poo is around. only time i'd be getting rays etc and 99% confident the jews arent around is if its's dead flat or close to. we have caught other poo species too when conds are like that - sand crabs, big puffers and dirty big catfish where they shouldnt be!

  3. 1. 10kg jew next bait and 10min after a 3ft whaler. bugger all bites before hooking the whaler so i figured if the gutter's ok for noahs should be ok for jew (tide was just past mid-flood and gutter was looking better)

    2. 18kg jew about 20min after one of those blind sharks. gutter i was fishing had broken reef nearby so not a surprise with the shark.

    3. we get jew in amongst plenty of rays/wobbys/jacko's/shovellys/whalers etc etc at one of our rock spots.

  4. Ahhh its a waverider bouy???? it says waverider on it,,,, thought it monitored swell and water condtions,,, not fish,,,, but my bad, betta get another

    Dan

It looks a hell of alot better now! brand spanting new an a new paint job!!!!

I just hope with the new chain on it,,,, it will hold the necessary baitfish

    dan

pretty sure it's a waverider operated by Sydney ports authority, not a "FAD" per se.

  5. gday guys,

i havent fished pittwater much in fact i havent fished it from the shore before. i was looking at doing a bit of squiding for some calamari off some of the wharves (used to do it off the wharves in sydney but not anymore!) I might also rig up the squid and throw one out and also spin some plastics for a few flatties and bream while my mate will be bait soaking.

I have heard of some areas such as palm beach wharf, taylors point wharf i was just asking if fishing is permitted off these wharves as many have no fishing signs in place as to many fishos leave mess behind. :mad3::mad3:

can anyone inform me of some wharves or land based areas in pittwater which are fishable (they dont have to all produce squid).

    any information will be appreciated

    cheers pk. :1fishing1:

last time i heard palmy wharf and taylors pt were ok for fishing, just be courteous and bring your lines in when the ferry comes at palmy.

even church pt wharf is fish ok and it is pretty busy.

  6. Fair dinkum they have only had like a year or something to open the lagoon entrance to the sea...!

they opened it up earlier this year but natural coastal processes can close the entrance quickly with waves filling it in with sand. perhaps council should have dredged the entrance earlier/more often but it is expensive business (50000 cubic m is a lot of sand)

  7. Hey going to San Francisco for work for 2 years. Any ideas on where to fish and how to fish. I am mostly a fly fisherman, but happy to go bait or rubber.

No sh1T I'm also moving to SF for 2 years and will be taking some fishing gear (can't fit it all in the luggage). Would be good to know another aussie fisho over there. Do you know where you'll be based?

    Will PM you.

    Cheers

  8. I am a regular bread and butter whiting and bream fisherman who wants to step up to a bit of a challenge chasing Jew (mulloway). I believe in the surf at night is the best with fresh bait. I have an Alvey Rod (3.2m) and a Alvey star drag 6in reel with 15lb line...am I on the right track? I am thinking of using West Aust Pilchards on ganged hooks.

Any tips (preferrably tried and tested) would be a huge help...not to mention any spots around South Eastern Qld that are known haunts of these elusive beasts!

A nice 4-5kg specimen would sure bring a smile to my face...but the bigger the better hey!

    cheers and tight lines!

    Mike L. :1fishing1:

big fat king beach worms are popular bait on NSw north coast - I'd try to get a hold of some of those if i were you. assuming you are fishing bribie, moreton, straddie islands... 2hrs around the high is productive for me. fish your bait on the edge of broken water and not in the middle of the gutters.

fresh squid is popular in sydney as a bait but may be hard for you to source. pillies catch fish from time to time but there are better baits. maybe a fresh tailor slab but expect a few sharks on flesh baits.

    i prefer a slightly heavier outfit - 12ft rod 6.5in alvey and 20lb mono.

jewie season should be just starting up in qld

  9. I would rather tell fellow raiders and hopefully then next season when other raiders find good king and squid stocks at certain places they might tell me as squid stocks can change from season to season.

Mate i beleive "what goes around comes around" If you help people out in time they will return the favour.

that's fine... but the reason squid stocks change from season to season is cause the masses are told where the squid are on - they all converge on the same spot - guess what? all fished out, i wonder why? time to find a new spot.

I prefer to keep my cagey squid and jew spots under my belt...

  10. as netic said if bagged up properly it wont get freezer burn or frosty. we've used squid up to a couple months old for jew. (i might add my mate caught the ANSA record jew on rank squid that was at least 6 months old!) when you defrost it the flesh should still be firm and still a bit translucent.

  11. The Alvey is almost indestructable, if you drop it in the sand, wash it in the surf! It won't rust!

i'd say they would corrode, no worries washing it in the surf during the session but best practice to give it a good freshwater rinse after.
