a floating island of rubbish that is as big as australia and yet there are no pics or other reports or yet alone any other new or media covergae
sure it was in the repitable newspaper and more than likely gotten from some sorce but how often has the media got things wrong
the condom one was also published in a news paper with all the facts yet you don't belive that one
i'm telling you now that it wouldn't be that easy to hide a rubbish pile in the sea that covers the area of australia and even if the ships aren't running into it it sure as hell would be picked up from space
hell the great barrier reef is seen from space and thats a hell lot smaller than australia
A vast rubbish dump, which covers an area bigger than Australia, is floating in the Pacific Ocean and research shows it is growing bigger. -
some one is late for april fools i think

1) Bottom bashing....(eggbeater)?? depending on depth needed Deep a Stella STL 10000FA Shallow Stella STL4000D they are top line but if you need to drop down a bit Baitrunner BTR 6500B
2) Live baiting kings..?? Torsa TS20
3) flicking plastics...???
Twin Power TP2500FB once again you could step down to the new Stradic st2500fi
all comes down to your needs and your cash flow as even with a great deal on some of these reels you still talking big biccies
-
Ceph depending on what one you have brought but i have used the lobbie a few times now and although i have had to cut it down a bit to suit my needs they have been working pretty dam well on the bream on both natrual snags and the leases
-
well in the hornet i run a GME GX620 hand held VHF radio
with this i'm getting about 10km out of it however this will be depending on terrain of course but this is plain old 10km line of sight range
this is more than enoght for me as i doun't think i would take the hornet much more than 6km off shore but may be a few km up or down the coast so the range is a comfort
the unit is small portable easy to use and water proof which is good as the marine radios look out of place on a bream boat but are handy on a snapper boat

As a lot of people are aware there have been huge numbers of boiling Salmon in and just outside the harbour. As most people are also aware - they can get a bit spooked by a boat.
Of late there have been a lot of boats chasing the huge schools of Salmon in the harbour and just outside north head etc. which is fine.
HGowever, my major issue is there are a few absolute dopes that come tearing into the school with their boat and spooking the fish so that everyone including themselves may get only one cast at them (if you are quick) before the fish bugger off again and you need to wait for them to resurface somewhere else.
It is very frustrating that these few deadsh*ts ruin everyones fishing.
I would love to throw each and every one of these dopes off north head so that they can sleep with the fishes.
I have had a few good sessions where only 4 or 5 boats are around a school and keeping their distance as much as possible and everyone is getting constant hook ups - one after another fish are being bought to the boats. Everyoine gets fish and has a heap of fun.
Please - if you are one of the ones that kills the motor of your boat only 1 metre from the boiling school - learn from this post - give the fish a 10 metre or so buffer zone.
Otherwise neck yourself - either way it would make me happy.
If you are one of the great anglers that keeps their distance from the school and has some idea of how to enjoy your fishing - I would love to fish with you any time.
Thats my whinge for the year!!!
sound to me that your getting carried away a tad
hopeing that these people will 'NECK' themself and all that BS
maybe these are people that are fairly new to fishing or this syly of fishing and may not understand the dymamics of the fish school
if it is that upsetting to yourself maybe you should try to get out when alot of these people will not be bothering you like either early or later in the day
just remember fishing is sposed to be relaxing

ross i would of also thought it was a longliner from the looks of it
no dout not only stocking up on some bait but trying the stay in some shelter and wait after that 30+ knot southly frount yesterday
-
It was a fair dinkum washing machine about 3pm and caught a lot
of boaties unawares.
There was some desperate scurrying for cover.
i'm sorry but i can not see how it caught some boaties unawares
the boaties caught out in it stuffed up and didn't check the weather before heading out
i was out off coffs harbour yesterday and the VMR up there every hour was putting out the bullton about the change that was expected to hit sydney in the afternoon and the north coast later that night
southly winds to 30 knots
edit
i also found it strange last night while watching the news how they were talking about the unexpected change that came though sydney that was so unexpected that the BOM was posting reports 24hours before it hit

Is the old story of overheads casting further than eggbeaters still true or are the flash new reels at a similar level in the casting stakes?
Also what are any other advantages of an overhead?
Dave
alot of verables there
for light weight stuff like light jighead and soft plastics or small bream and bass lures then a spin reel wins hands down however when dealing with heavyer things like bigger lures or even a surf rig then the good old overheads still cast a mile
easyest way to see this is to look at the castings comps and the distance those fellas can get from a overhead with a lump of lead
it will also depends on the user
i myself can always cast ferther with a spin reels than i can with any overhead
-
mondo they are being desinged by one of the larger australian lure makers so you should hear about them soon or later
des the squire were caught all in water under 25meters deep

Was talking to Mr Ogawa of Plat Japan and he revealed an interesting morsel of information.
Apparently, Shimano have ceased (or are in the process of ceasing) production of the SW series of Stellas, including the popular 10000 and 20000 models. I assume this will also be true for the local Stella FA series, which is identical apart from the spare spool and a few accessories.
He can't confirm exactly when the new replacement series will be released, but believes it will be launched (with great fanfare) at the 2008 Japan Fishing Show to be held in February. A date to watch for all tackle junkies!
So, for those in the market for a big jigging or popping reel, you may wish to hold off for a few months or your "new" Stella may soon be obsolete.
it wouldn't supprise me one little bit
they have cesed the older stradic and have relunched it with a few changes and even a whole new MG stradic
i belice shimano are going to try and revamp all the older range

i fish the rich mid north coast waters up off the crowdy head-coffs harbor area and all areas inbetween
the winds were up a bit and that was the upper limit of my comfort zone however the winds were mainly a westly so it flattened the swell so the waves were low comeing at my under 1meter so it was more likt fishing in a dam with a big chop on it or a river that is chopped up
my hornet is no off the shelf unit too as it has had a few changed made for me and it has all the safty equipment on it that you find on the larger boats
for a vee nose punt that is set up for sports fishing they really handle the rougher stuff nicly
in fact i find the ride in this boat as good as the ride in my sf17 southwind
lure secret lure and jihy head is something that is getting worked on and we are hoping to have a porpuse built snapper jig head in the market soon enoght
alot of the jig heads just don't cut it when your dealing with the snapper rods and reels
-
last couple of weeks have been bad for me so i was happy today when i got the day off and was able to head outside for a little flick around
i say little because at first the wind was a nice strong westly then calming down for a bit before turning souwest
in a larger boat it may of been alright but 15knot winds in a little 435 hornet sure makes you feel it but the boat still handled it great and each time i use her i gain more and more trust in what it can do
the fishing wasn't the best but i did pack the bream gear away in favor for the 15lb snapper stick
first mark was out a tad wider at 10km out but not much was happing and the westly wind was makeing it very chopie out there but still a found a couple of southen nannies and a few other crap fish
moved in closer to the shallower reefs where things started to happin
i still was getting the crap fish but i also found a few smaller pinkies that could of gone size but went for a swim insted
i did however find two decent fish one goneing 65cm the other just on 60cm
turned the nose to hame and belted my way to the bar in the chop
nice day out and was nice to be on the water
all fish were caught on a secret softplastic and jig head combo
-
yeh i have caught a few around the area as a by catch from bream fishing and it is defintly some sort of amberjack
you would know if it was a balck trellay also known as a happy moment by some sick bloke as it sure si no happy moment being spiked by one

Hi Fishraiders,
Picked up my new tinny and motor from the dealer Thursday: Quintrex 385 Explorer and 15 hp Mercury 4 stroke with electric start.
Now the hard part begins -- how best to fit all the gear in. Shouldn't be too difficult, as the new boat's more than a foot longer and must be almost twice as wide as my old Savage car-topper.
But what's the best way to store rods when underway? I used to just just lay them fore and aft across the thwarts of my car topper.
The new Quintrex doesn't have a middle seat (one of the reasons I selected it), but there's a considerable distance between the front seat/casting platform and the rear tiller seat, and I'd prefer some way of securing the rods so they don't get tossed around, stood on and damaged when underway.
Any ideas? what's the best way to keep rods out of harms way in a boat when underway?
Regards,
Bob

agree with the around 95cm and 6kg mark
yeh there has been a fir bit of researsh into the humble flatties and one that size would be about 12 years old and yes all the big ones are the girls males only grow to about 70cm still a nice size but
me personal size limit is 40cm-65cm nothing over nothing under
-
used the smaller one in the rivers for a few bream and the flatties love them but for bream there are better lures
still trying them outside in 5 inch for the snapper but so far only caught rubbish fish on them
-
even better when shimano australia releases the stadic MG later this year
from all reports from overseas and those that have got their hands on one it will be a killer reel and one to make sure the stradic name lives on
-
nope woun't effect them at all
i know alot of blokes doing just that now days
removeing all the juice and gulps and placeing in another airtight tub however then if you add this to the cost from buying the alives then your going up again in cost and it could be a case that you may be better off with the packets again

hey guys, for heavier plastic work for kings and pelagics around the harbour, do you think the starlo snapper spin 5-8kg 2 piece or starlor tounament pro medium 4-8kg they are both 7ft3
is the tournament pro worth paying a little bit more for? also, since the tournament is rated at 4- 8 does that mean its a bit lighter than the snapper spin?
was thinking of mating it with a 4000 class reel for pelagic work around the habnour on plastic, what do you reckon?
personaly i have played with these rods and next to some of the raider rods and others like nitro rods they do feel very bulky for the size
the tournamant would be the better one here as yes it is a tad lighter but in the long run that would make for a better feeling combo
truly amazeing the power you can get out of some of these rods these days
-
keep a eye out for the stradics as they are now superseeded (gone from the FH range to the new FL range)
i have heard on the grape vine that these units will be coming down in price over the next few mounths as everyone clears them out for the new range
prices i have heard are around $160-$180 mark

Hi all. i went to the boat show last weekend 2 check out some of the electric motors. i'm interested in buying a transom mount for my tinny. when i spoke to 1 of the salesmen 4 minn kota he said that the saltwater riptide is exactly the same as the freshwater models except you get a corrosion warranty on the riptide. He then said he's been running a minn kota endura in saltwater and has had no problems.
Is there a difference in the motors other than the price?
Any help would be much appreciated
Steve
so the salesman said he is useing one in saltwater and that he thinks it is fine to do so
Was he willing to put that down on some paper for you so it covers you for warrinty????
i know BLA (the main dealers of minn kotas) have in the past knocked back warrinty claims after finding salt in and on the freashwater modles
sure the enduros and freashwater modles may never have a problem in the rusty stuff but your got to think about the What Ifs and how it will effect the warrinty

i have no dout that there is plastic in the ocean and too much for comfort at that what i'm discounting are some of the facts like the size of it
i have looked at the ALGALITA site and other reports i have found pertainine to CATP Charles Moore and none of the reports ever stated anything like the size of australia
now as i said i have no douts there are all sort of things that shouldn't be there with rope being the worst of the worst closely followed by plastic bags and there are loads of reports about micro sized plastic and in fact sadly alot of it now makes up a percentage of grains on many beaches
the biggets thing is the size and some of the other things in the report but hey in the end even a bad bit of pubishing is good if it brings some of this info to the lime light
