  1. I bought an used ugly stick and it came with a Shimano Nexave 4000FA reel. After quick complete take apart, clean and lube it seems ok. But anybody had any experience with these?

If I wanted to sell it, how much should I be asking for it?

    Thanks, :15:

mate, it is a entry level reel worth about $100.00 brand new, dont know what type of ugly stick it is and more importantly what condition they are both in. Sorry to say that they are only worth what someone is willing to pay, but as a rough estimate, if the gear is in excellent condition (as new) about 30% less then retail and it falls from their.

Hope this sheds some light on the situation

  2. I am looking at purchasing either a Shimano Twin Power 2500 or Sustain 2500 for bream fishing, but don't know which is the better reel.

I have done some research on the net and found out bugger all.

I have checked both of them out at a tackle shop but can't come to any conclusion.

Everyone seams to have an opinion but i am after facts, they seam to have very little between them so i am asking anybody who knows which is the better reel Twin Power or Sustain and whats the difference between the two ? Feral Fish

Well people i have made a decission after many sleepless nights i purchased the sustain. To update those who are interested in this topic, I emailed shimano and all hey could tell me is their is a split hair between the two reels (whatever that means). This is the facts on what is the difference between the two, the Twin power comes out of Japan the Sustain comes out of Malayasia. The retreive speed on the twin power in 5.0 to 1 the sustain is 6.0 to 1 (same as the stella) and the handles are different. thats it they are both smooth as a babies bum and have the same features and the same amount of bearing. neither is a tuned down stella (this would be the soare as it is about $150 cheaper than a stella). So in conclusion it comes down to personal choice, but i figured that the 6 to 1 retreive speed was better for flicking lures. The difference in cost would be due to the different exchange rates as they come out of different countries (In my opinion)

  3. mate if your getting a workhorse of a real around the twinpower/sustain price range solely for breaming may i reccomend getting a 1000 size reel...

if your after big flathead and the odd snapper or schoolie too then maybe 2500 is better.

the smaller the reel = lighter weight = better for finess fishing such as breaming.

    just my 2 cents though.

thanks mate already have 4 reels in the 1000 size loaded with 2kg. but good point

    cheers

  4. Mate, i have been crabbing all my life and the best bait for swimmers is any oily fish as it attracts crabs for miles as an added bonus i fill the foot part of an old stocking (dont use your misses good ones as she will hit the roof) with tuna oil soaked saw shavings (not dust) and tie it with the bait.

You can re use the shaving by drying them and soaking again do this the night before for the best results

If you cant get any shaving use shaving for a smoker box

    good luck

  6. Checkout online shop and other discount sites first you may come across a unwanted gift or a bargain. do your research on the net first then ask as many questions as you can including does it work?. the other alternative is a hummingbird as they have entry level models but be aware they may not have all the features you require. make sure whatever you buy it has all the cable and brackets you need to mount it. Some models seem cheap but by the time you buy the (optional extras) i.e brackets etc you have might as well purchased a better model. Buy what you can afford, but consider how long you will have it and what you want it to do, there is no point buying a model that is only a glorified depth gauge

    good luck

  8. My vote is in.

How dare they take more of our fishing grounds. Another government official justifying their job by taking more from the people. what happened to promoting wholesome activities like fishing, i was taught by my father and grandfather and it kept me off the streets and out of trouble and i will teach my kids the same.. we should be educating our next generation of fisherman about conservation and not allow officials to dictate what we can and cant do.... That called communism and i would still like to believe we live in a free country

  9. Bananas are not unlucky for fishing rather they are unlucky for the boat. The fist tome i went to Cairns and on a charter i noticed signs al over the boat "NO BANANAS ALLOWED ON BOARD". i asked the captain why they were not permitted onboard an this is what he told me.

Back in the day before large boats the islanders used to trade their goods via canoes,

which wasent a problem till they started trading bananas. the problem here is they would overload the canoes

with bananas. once the weather turned the canoes would sink and most of the trader lost their

lives. this is why it is bad luck to take a banana on board a fishing vessel.

after hearing this explanation i asked a few others and the response was the same.

    Makes sense
