  3. Left Roseville yesterday at 5am to fog and headed out to get live bait but couldn't catch a thing. Headed out with the lures through the heads but still no luck. Got the FAD off Dee Why for zip and then to the Wave Ryder we we found small dollies no keepers its starting to become a bad day at the office as we have been trying to get out like everyone else thanks to the weather when we decided to go to our snapper spot we found last year just as a off chance they might have returned. We dropped in 80mtrs and found a nice patch in the sounder and brought up 2 fish on the first drop. Then another on the second drop. The the current below started racing south to north and the slight breeze sending us south east so we couldn't stay on the bottom. We then noticed the temperature had risen 2 degrees to 24.5 so we stayed in the break and found 3 very small marlin and chased them for about 20 min and got 1 strike but no hook ups a lot of fun anyway. We the headed back home and dropped just outside the heads for 2 good mowies and decided to head home. Great to be on the water on a sunny summers day.

  4. Left Roseville ramp yesterday (being the only trailer at the ramp which I said to the boys was not a good sign) at 7am with no1 son and his mate as they decided they did not want work on Friday. I own the boat so I had to go as well with a little support from the misses wife.gif . I didn't realise there were so many of my freinds who were worried I didn't have enough work on. Should not feul up at the local on the main road at peak hour mad3.gif . Anyway got to the heads and found bonito busting bait but refused to take any lures. Left for 12 mile for some jigging but found the wind picked up about 5mile out and decided to return to cliffs around The Gap for some bottom bashing and a cuppa. Well it all started very quickly with a croc 50cm straight away. We then started to pick up some serious bites and manage to keep 20 crocs between 45 to 65cm 1 leatherjacket and 1 sargent baker. Must have returned about 30 just undersized crocs and 5 pinkies. I will not ever take my mates suggestions that you can't catch fish in a serious westerly. Left them still on the chew what a great day. They say a bad day on the water is better and than a great day at work but for once it was great day and I didn't miss the work at all.thumbup.gif Oh yeh didn't get the cuppa until Igot home.074.gif

  5. Hey Mate!

That is actually a Mako not a great white. As most gamefisherman would know, they are awesome fighters and often perform aerial stunts when hooked on a line!

Nevertheless, a funny by-catch while fishing for flatties!

yeh thanks breed should have checked first on the breed but as it surfaced the jaws protruded just like a white

Went outside yesterday and found a good reef but could only pick up small snapper. We decided to drift off the reef for some flatties as we caught some decent size 2 days earlier. Later I felt only a small tug and then set the hook for a little fun with what I felt was large flatty and then it decided to have some fun with me. It surfaced about 20mts from the boat and I and we both thought :( another shark but it wasn't until came closer we realised it was a little great white. What a fight from a small shark It took line like a marlin and took a good 5 minutes to get him and it didn't like being in the boat but I coudn't resist a photo.

Hope he doesn't come back to haunt me later as the last one I saw was 5 metres at Long Reef.

Also saw a amazing site a huge turtle eating blue bottles.

  7. i know how you feel went to browns yesterday as there was talk the gemmies were still around. saw the pro collecting small gemmies and what looked like very small blue eye cod. dropped down 400 mtrs for 4 hours and never lost a bait. saw another boat catch a gemmie but that was it. left browns to 12 mile jigged nothing. came in closer and picked up 4 leathers . did 75miles worked out each leathery cost about $35 each.

but as they say :05: at least i got bait for the next trip

  8. left roseville ramp early sunday morning with a mate and went straight to the wave ryder marker to find dollies everywhere but all to small to keep dropped down to about 15 metres below surface but they were all still too small. bottom bashed all up the coast but all we got were jackets and small ones only. lost about 30 leaders between us. returned about 2pm very :( but it was worth the trip i could have been mowing the lawn :05: . back to making more weights and leaders

    anything from 100mtres to 20mtres

  10. Thanks for your comments and first post Brian. It appears that you have joined us specifically to "defend" the kayakkers against Ross's comments.

Mr Hunter has given his opinion based on years of experience on the open ocean. He is a very well known identity in fishing and boating circles. You can listen to him talk every weekend on Hi Tide. He is also a fishraider site sponsor.

It would be very sad if this post turns into a flaming war with boat based fishos against kayak fishos. For your information I have removed about 6 threads in the last 2 days posted by members who are of the same opinion as Ross Hunter in an effort to keep some civility on the forum.

We asked those involved to post a report of the event as fishraider members were very interested. One of those involved has posted and then removed his own post. Those members that read it would understand why the thread has gone off topic.

I am not sure where this thread is going but if there are any members that breach site rules they will be warned and the post closed.

Lets get back to fishing and enjoying our great sport (in whatever vessel we choose).

    mrsswordfisherman

thanks for your reply but i didn't write the story for anybody to take offence but to make people aware that things can change in a blink of a eye out on the water. hopefully this is my last report of this nature and that all good can come from it. regards walrus

  11. headed out to long reef to find some kings on saturday with a mate missy and his dad.

we got smahed by kings everywhere but no legal size all around 60cm and we also noticed 5 guys on yaks having fun when all of a sudden 1 of the guys rolled off his yak and looked to be in a little distress, and we then heard another guy in a boat who was fishing about 20mts away start yelling . he waved his arms and continued to yell for me to come over for some reason. we came over and then we saw what he was yelling about yep a great white shark about 4.5mtrs long and he was not happy because he was the reason this guy was in the water, he nudged him off his yak and was coming around for the kill. when we arrived he got the guy who was in the water onto his boat which left 4 more yaks still paddling. i left and picked up 1 who was about 50mtrs away and then returned to find the other boat had got 1 more guy in his boat but had the other 2 remaining still in the water huddled close to another boat. then the 2 remaing guys left the boat together and started peddling away after being told by a guy in another boat if you stay close to each other it should be ok. then all hell broke loose as our friend started to round them up. the guy in the boat who told them to go then had to reverse back as i went forward to try and hit the shark and we think he did because he rolled over on his back and all i saw was his white belly. we got the other 2 guys in my boat and then watched as our friend swam down deep. we manage to get all yaks tied and delivered the guys back to long reef behind the other boat and then found out his mate on board video the whole thing. what a day to remember. as the guys left they vowed never to return again and i said if i see you guys out hear again i'll kill you first as a joke but between me and you i have never seen 5 guys so shit scared in my life. i hope they continue to fish in narrabeen lakes and not outside again. if you want to get there side of this story i know they were members of a yak club which won i don't know. maybe roberta might be able to find out about the yak club.
