  1. there was one spotted at Silvers Beach a week ago about 2.5 meters...apparently owner threw a stick only about 3 meters away and the dog was taken right in front of them...I have waded and fished the area and know a few others do not to mention kids.

  2. I have just seen a report that a dog has been taken by a shark at Kurnell after swimming after a stick which suggests to me it was close to shore. There was a bull shark spotted not far offshore last week so thought it was worth a warning as plenty of families frequent the area and I know at times fisherman wade the flats at Silvers Beach.

  3. Been a few years since I have fished there and even longer for bottom species. You have the 4 mile,6 mile and 12 mile reefs straight out the front. Montague Island to the north with several reefs in between and some good flathead at time just outside the entrance. To the south there are also several reef areas and you'll probably find co ordinates easy to find. The local tackle shop is always pretty helpful with what is currently biting and where. Weather like anywhere can be fair to frightening so dangerous to generalise this far out.

  4. I use anything down to 4-5lb on the Symetre 1000 but find going lighter does make the knots a bit harder as the light stuff is not only thinner but very supple and tend to blow around in the breeze. On the 2500 now I stick to 8-12lb but that may have more to do with my eyesight than fishing requirements.

  5. Coming from someone that has spent thousands on game reels and custom rods when it comes to my lighter tackle from 5 to 20lb gear all my reels are now Symetre. I currently have 8 and any others I replace will be with the Symetre as well. I do believe the Nasci is worth considering but haven't need to purchase anything new since they've been released.

  6. I don't fish much in the estuary Neil but if weather permits maybe a trip offshore either tuna or Snapper. I've also been getting some big Blue spot flatties up to 65cm lately too when you can pick in between the spikeys. I'm a fair weather fisho these days.

  7. Went for a quick fish today out of the Hacking and Maritime on a Jet Ski pulled us over for a safety check. They were pretty thorough and even checked the Fire Extinguisher was still charged...Timely reminder to check your flares are in date....lucky only just out and got off with a warning.

  8. we were out today, there is a hard break almost directly east of the browns goes from 20.7 on one side rapidly down to 19.2 in places. Kelp, Cuttle fish bones all washed up along the edge, we mainly fished the cold side. lots of tuna birds in spots. We trolled along it for a bit over 4hrs and only got one hook-up on a small fish, I suspect a stripped tuna or a albacore.

we heard that there were a few yellowfin hooked and that there was a multiple hookup on Bluefin east of Browns, they wouldn't say where they hooked the Yellowfin. I would guess we saw around 15 to 20 boats along the break we were on and there were boats south as well near the canyons

So a few fish were caught here and there, hopefully better numbers over the weekend, good luck to anyone heading out

We actually gave the co ordinates out over the radio and had 4 boats around us in no time. 34.02 151.51

  9. I'll be out tomorrow on my boat Chowster. Fished yesterday on Marquis for a double hook up but lost one under the boat just before the gaff went in. Second fish we got 161cm and around 75kg. we were slightly south and wide of browns around 60fm. also a lot of boat got nothing so some good fish around but plenty of water between them....Lots of boats out today so should get more report later this afternoon and tonight.

  10. Hi Nick. Yes I have the pieces. What I did and it was many years ago when I lived with my parents was got a piece of pine and just used rubber bands to attach the rollers to the timber then used the BBQ rotisserie for epoxy. I had it set up on the dining room table for a couple of week till mum got over it. That was about 25 years ago and I still use a couple of the game rods I made that way today. I just bound by hand without any spooler or tensioner. If you'd like to borrow mine to see if that works for you before laying out much money let me know and I'll have a hunt around the garage and see if I can find the bits.

  11. Hi Nick, Where are you at. I have some in the garage somewhere I used 25 years ago. Just the rollers and then set up a BBQ rotisserie motor. You just need to mount them to a board. It was a cheap set up to get started but did the job so well I never bothered going to the expense of upgrading.
