  1. joined up with my brother in law and his mates on a charter out of cronulla with bianca charters, took a right out of the heads and headed down to stanwell park about 5mls off shore. first drift saw us boat some nice snapper to 45cms until a 5min period where the 2 fish of the day come in. 2 snapper 1 3.5kg and the other 3.25kg both with the biggest bumps ive ever seen, i mean they looked deformed.

from there went to garie as the wind was picking up and nailed about 10 flatties to 70cm and the ever present leather jackets. got to the stage that the baits were being taken before hittting the bottom in most cases. even tried leather jacket fillets with the skin on as bait but they went just as quick, and 50 lb braid is string when these guys chomp it.

anyway end of a good day a whale started to play close to us slamming his tail and flippers down awesome sight for about 10mins.

one last thing does anyone know where to get a good cheap "charter special" reel by shimano as the shimano overhead ive got is a 6:1 retrieve and is a pain to use deep sea

    cheers steve

  2. Top photos Talechaser and good info as well. Buggered if I want to pull fish up 600ft although for a chance at some of those type of fish I would give it a go for a while

there were 25 on board and they were manual reels supplied next time i woyld take my own gear

  3. this is from a charter we took from perth 50km straight out to sea fishing in 100 fathoms (thats a long way to bring up fish

the boat is a 74ft and cruised through a 1.5m swell at close to 30knt

the snapper went 4.5kg biggest of trip was 6.5kg

the bronze whaler was pectoral hooked and a bugger to get in, also a very angry little fella

fish of the trip was a 25kg samson fish.he got it on the top hook and a 45cm snapper on the bottom hook

next to the esky under a snapper is the biggest leather jacket ive ever hooked let alone seen 60cm and when it was dehooked had 2 other fully baited 6/0 circe hooks it had already bitten off inside its mouth

the ugly fish in the centre near the 2 samsons is a west aust. dhu fish very good eating and gets about $50 a kg at the markets. i geuss they like to lay the fish out at the end to advertise how good they are. i highly recomend this charter they dehook and put the fish on your own tag rope then straight on ice.

i have just listed that set of dvds on ebay and noticed that there is as least one other set there for sale to might be cheaper than from a dvd store

just do a search for fishing dvds

  6. well done buster

i was out there today with BLawler and a cousin look at molimox but too many boats so fished over just about the whole bay for a lot of undersize and 1 nice flattie saw some guys spinning up either tailor or slimmies at the 3rd runway

    we will try again

  7. took the :wife: out on the georges today, got out a bit late and as soon as we launched the wind kicked up something fierce :1badmood: .as the :wife: has a delicate stomach we were limited to the quiet areas and had very limited success,2 small bream and 2 small flatties, all returned.could not believe how many boats and craft were out on a wednesday.called it a day at 130 just before the lighting storm hit, started to put the boat on the trailer and the electric winch decides not to work :05: so ok grab the crappy crank handle they give you and within 4 turns its stripped :05::05: luckily had a shifter in the car and had no more dramas.

ps all fish caught just downstream of lugarno on prawns and slimys

  8. hi

there are a few places to try, garie beach is one of the best, and also the rocks at the north end of the beach, its a pretty good platform but only fish it in small to medium swell. I personally use 4 hook gangs of mustard 4202's and make up my own. the extra hook sometimes will not make it into the bait but left swinging free will also grab the tailor that like to take off the tails. if you want to try the rocks as well pm me and i will give you some good locations as before i got the boat all we did was rock and beach

    cheers steve

  9. Just a general question, i am not sure if i am allowed to ask this question (SORRY IF IAM NOT)

I was looking to do a fishing charter from sydney habour or botany bay, can anyone suggest any good ones that i should try, i understand that most places are going to be booked out

I was just looking for suggestions of ones that people have tried and have liked becasue i have done ones before out of the yellow pages and found them to be not very good

I didn't want to do a deep sea charter though, and just a half day trip!!

I remeber there was a guy at ABA that did a charter and sounded really good, but i cant remember the name of it.

    Merry Christmas

I have been out with scotty lines from fishabout (?) tours and he was pretty good and have also heard good reliable reports about the guy that runs Giant jewfish and flattie charters(not sure if that is the correct name) on the hawkesbury

  10. took the missus out for a spin from river road at about 10am, fished and drifted down to como bridge. best spot was the stretch from the corner down stream from lugarno to the bridge. caught whiting, flaties (about time) flounder, bream and snapper. kept a nice flattie and let a keeper bream go. got bitten off 4 times by big fish halfway though the fight (using 15lb leader) all in all a good 3hrs fishing

  11. Are you eatin the SN shark? bloody good tucker they are. Was this near the sailing club on the northern side? I have got a few from there nice flatsky as well

yes we do eat them, cut the head off right behind where the shovel ends and treat them as a flathead.

also was infront of sailing club,on a outgoing tide but with the wind pushing us back up river.we have also caught some nice legal snapper there on earlier trips

    steve

  12. took the brother in law out for the day on botany, and was harrased by baby reddies everywhere. ended up fishing the shallows on the outside of capt cook bridge. in 2m of water the B I L took a shovel nose that went 110cm and a flatie that went 49cm all in all a lot of fun
