  1. hi the boats you have in mind are all exellent and hard to pick between I'm a haines fan as they have always been good for me. it will come down to what suits your needs best. they all handle estuary and outside well, you could also throw in a Trophy they too are good for both. I wish I had your choice.

  2. Hi Guys,

I will be purchasing a glass boat shortly with a bit of luck and was just wondering how I would launch it on my own. I often go alone fishing and my previous boat was a 4.1 tinnie. No problems at all :P

But this is a lot bigger and just wondering what is the best way to do it? Launching and Retrieving.

When I used to launch my tinnie I could hold the boat while I untied the boat from the winch. Don't know how I would do this bit alone now.

Any help will be good, thanks!

    :)

Hi A good multi roller trailer makes things a lot easier both launching & retreiving. I had a 6m haines that I launched by myself & it was easy once I got the hang of things. You can drive on & off. Main problem will be the wind.

  4. I'm just starting to fish in Sydney and am looking for a good land based fishing spot like Jetty or Rocks.

Can you please give me some pointers on where is a good jetty to fish? Prefers to be able to eat the catch as well.

I live in Beverly Hills (near Hurstville) and can travel around but prefers not to travel over to the North Side of the Sydney Harbour.

    Thank you.

  5. hi, I lived in the little cabins on the beach many years ago & the owner used to go to the south side of the little headland at the southern end of the beach in the evening a and would come back with good jewfish on most occassions. Those were the days.

  6. Hey Raiders,

What would be the closest boat ramp to the port kembla break wall area. I always go there land based and see some awesome islangs which i reckon would be really good for kingies and the like.

    Thanks in advance

the ramp in port kembler harbour is good for most boats and is good for accessing the breakwall. All of the islands are good for kingfish. the north side of pig island and the front are my pick as the best as well as north end of toothbrush near the wreck of the bombo.

p.s any help would be greatly appreciated

  9. you will have to try variation & with experience you will learn. Hear is the information from some experienced people to consider and if you find it not working try something different as we all know every situation is different on our waters. With experience you will be able to find the anwsers. For me sea anchors are a very handy tool for a boat.

  10. most of the pots set close to the rocks this time of the year (july- december)are for crays and should have ID. The professionals pay good money for the licenses and there are hefty fines if ID is not displayed. Another thing to keep in mind if you get caught lifting pots you to can get fined very heavily so best to call fisheries and let them do what they get paid to do.

  11. Hey Guys,

I am contemplating getting a new colour sounder. I am looking at a hummingbird with side imaging. Has anyone used side imaging? If so:-

Is it a gimmick or useful?

What depth do they operate in?

Are they easy to read and interpret on the water?

    Cheers Anthony

hi Anthony, it is no gimmick it is tried and tested technology Bob Ballard found the Titanic using side scan sonar back in the 80s it is a bit different to normal sounders to understand but not all that difficult. If you are in the position to get into this technology I say go for it you wont look back.

  12. Hey guys,

Today it was brought to my attention that there are green groups and residents in the Eastern Suburbs pushing for a marine park that will extend from south head down to bondi. Their reasoning is that we need to create this sanction to protect blue groper and wobbegong sharks. Groper have a bag limit of 2 fish, with 1 over 60cm and wobbegong have a complete ban on keeping fish.

As we know both species have a widespread distribution along the coast and I don't think they are under much pressure, in fact people who dive the area find both these species a common encounter.

I think it is important to bring this to the attention to as many fisho as possible. They are knocking on our doorstep so we need to show these fools where to go.

If anyone knows of further details or who to contact please put the info up as i will be writing in and urge many others to do the same.

We supposedly live in a democratic society. Being the largest stakeholder with respect to utilising this resource our opinions should be given due consideration.

I have dived in this area for about 50 years and have worked it as an abalone diver for 20 of those years. Since the limits to blue groper came into place there has been a steady increase in numbers to the point blue groper are common and can be found in large numbers all along the coast of NSW.

A study carried out by fisheries showed that blue groper are definately not under any presure. Fisherman and spearfishermen taking large numbers of these fish is a myth. The people who are pushing for the parks are ill informed as to what is happening and need to grab goggles and have a look, they will see very quickly their information is totally false and may wake up.
