  1. I've used them casting and trolling. I'm a novice at these things but i have caught (locally) bonnies, tailor and in fiji and maldives I've caught dog tooth tuna, trevally, mackrel and coral trout all on the troll.

So you got yourself a bargain in my eyes. I can't see why a Dollie wouldn't jump on.

  2. I think he means eastern suburbs rocks. I myself have not caught anything yet on the xxx xraps in the 36grams or 56 grams. I have the glass ghost colour and the gold and white colour so i don't rate them much just yet.

A coco rig is basically a little squid skirt plastic lure on a 1.5 metre trace to float and sinker setup. Usually a 12ft rod or bigger with a big reel. Takes alot of engery to throw that setup.

8.5ft - 11ft rod setup with a 4000 - 6000 reel should be fine for spinning off the rocks. 15 lb - 30 lb braid. Where do you spin?

I go all around. Sometimes up near whale beach barrenjoey or other times Bondi/Tama stretch or even the harbour.

  3. Where abouts? Is South East Rocks a place or an area. Don't need to fess up exact location. Just interested in the region.

I do a bit of spinning from the rocks. So I have a few questions

Is that the new x rap cast heavy duty? Any good?

What set up do you use?

I googled cocos rigs and got a mixed understand...what are they?

  4. yeh I got the same one. Ive had plenty of spinning reels but never a baitcaster. It's rated to 5kg of drag.

I read they're not great for ultra light lures. What sort of lure weights do people use with a set up like that?

I'm prob going to spool it with some leftover 15 lb powerpro briad.

What sort of fish would I target with it in Syd.

Sorry if I hijacked the tread but it's kinda on topic.

  5. I hadn't done a kingie session for a while so on Sunday I did my early morning start (4am) and collected some squid before heading to my eastern suburbs land based harbour spot. The way I figured it was with high tide at 4am the kings would be desperate to eat at first light before the tide dropped too much. Boy was i right. A i chucked out my live squid i saw a few kings darting about. In the space of about 5 seconds i was on. It was a rat but what do i care…it's my first kingie for a while. As i got him near he spat the hook. For the next hour the kings toyed with me as they swam up to my squid and looked but didn't touch. I tried a surface stick bait for a one hook up but once again I dropped it. Eventually I decided to strip the squid after a chucking out a small bit of squid that got devoured by another king.

The strips worked and I was on. Ater a 5 minute battle and a few tense moments it was landed. It measured just below 60cm and was put back much to the distress of the the old guy fishing near me. I had to explain to him if we all kept undersize fish there would be no fish to release.

  6. It's been a while between posts.

I had a cracking session last week and on the weekend. The bream and whiting just wanted to jump on to my lures. I headed down to my cruisey little spot near gladesville.

My main lure of choice was a new colour in the sugapen 70 range. It's kind of a reverse of the tiger prawn colours. See attached images. Every cast of that was a follow and or few hits.

In the space of an hour I'd landed about 10 fish and countless other dropped fish. At one stage the bream were jostling each other for the lure and one actually got airborne trying to smash it.

It was a rising tide and the baraometer was 1022.

I usually target whiting but the bream are firing for me. The biggest bream in the photos was a sight casted fish...very exciting.

All up I probably caught about 4 keeper bream and 2 keeper whiting...all returned to the freedom of the polluted Para river.

  7. It's not what it seems. My fiancé likse to fish so we will do the charter together. As for the flats fishing...I do that early in the morning while she sleeps in. We're all winners!

    Any other tips anyone?

  8. Hey Raiders,

I'm heading to the Maldives in Feb for my honeymoon.

Does anyone have any tips for fishing the Maldives.

I plan to fish landbased/flats with my own gear and I will probably go on a charter.

I hope to get stuck into a few flats trevally...any tips on good lures or types of lures. I'm from Sydney and don't get the opportunity to tackle trevally so I have no idea.

    Cheers
