Hello Fishraiders,
I was hoping for some advice please......I am intending to invest some time trolling off the Royal National Park....is it realistic to target the likes of Striped Tuna etc within several kilometres of the coast ?
With the water still warm and the currents favourable, is anyone having any success at the moment and/or what can I expect at this time of th year ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Werner
ive been trolling the headlands around terrigal and avoca and doing well on tailor, bonito and rat kingies. you should do ok trolling deep divers in the 7 to 8 inch range as close as you can get to the washes and you will clean up

Got 3 solid greenbacks last night off the beach. The tide wasnt anything special and the beach formations are poor, but a surfer mate told me about a good "bank" at Avoca. So I drove down there with the kids and sure enough there was a nice inshore gutter. They started biting about an hour before dark, and I ended up keepign three fat ones for dinner, all well over the kilo mark, or 45 to 50 cm. It was a beautiful night and the fishing should stay this good for a while yet. THis time of year is just the best on the central coast.
The Poacher
Well done Poacher
There are a few big ones around at Avoca at the moment.
I had one come out of the water near me while surfing the point a few arfternoons ago that would have went close to 3kg's. Trouble was there was a bronzie on its tail so i got the hell out of there!

Hi guys,
Im new to the forum and new to sea fishing decided to signup after lurking for abit as there seems to be alot of local knowledge on here. Ive caught freshwater perch before but now ive moved near the beach im trying my hand at saltwater.
Got myself a Procyon III Daiwa PC3 which should be good for some light stuff. Freshwater and curl curl are my nearest spots, anyone got tips on the best rigs/baits to use?
cheers
Jon
North curl curl is a great rock fishing spot in a low swell. All the usual species like bream ,black fish, drummer, taylor, groper.
There is a lot of green weed on the rocks and can be quite slippery so suitable foot ware is a must like cleats or rock boots .
Other wise the beach fishing at the southern can be good at times.
If you only have light estaury gear you may be better off around north harbour chasing whitting, bream and flathead. There are some good land based spots that can be accessed at the seaforth end of the wakehurst parkway near dalwood homes. Just have a look in the street directory and it should show the public baths and jetties in the area

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a website that allows you to put in GPS coordinates and either tell you the distance between two points (as the crow flies) or marks the coordinates on a scaled map?
I have tried to do this on the google map site but cant seem to get it to work unless the coordinates are on land.
There are heaps of GPS marks out there on the internet but its hard to tell if they are accesable to a small boat from your chosen launcing site!

Hi Raiders
Im planning a camping trip to Forster next month and was hoping to get some GPS marks to hopefully target snapper and mowies.
Im taking my 15ft tinnie so wont be able to go to far from the sea wall if the swell isnt to big.
I havnt fished the area before so any help would be appreciated.

hi raiders ,
I was thinking of trying a few less popular rock fishing locations this winter (pigs and bream mainly)and I was wondering if anyone has fished the area between forrestors beach to the south and crackneck to the north.
Also the area between the Entrance and Toowoon bay.
Thanks

Gday mate,
Try 30 kms south of Coffs.. a place called Valla Beach.. Go down to the beach.. its perfect for fishing.. waist high for about 30 metres.. and you will catch a mixed bag from flatties and whiting to jews and snapper... yep from the beach!!
PS: I didnt make it to Terrigal over xmas/nye so didnt ring ya for fishing!
Good luck
Thanks for the tips guys..................have to get my head around snapper from the beach!
You didnt miss much over the xmas/nye period Tan...............couldnt get the boat out due to the huge seas

Ive obviously erned enough brownie points with the missus over the past 12 months as she has agreed to a 10 day north coast fishing /surfing safari in Feb.
The plan is to start off with three days in Coffs Harbour and work our way back to the central coast with a couple of days at Nambucca, Cresent Head and Rainbow Beach/Bonny Hills.
The only condition is that i keep the family fed with fresh fish along the way.
Im taking the tinney but not familiar with any of the above locations so any help on baging a few fish (estuary and inshore reefs) from the North Coast Fishraiders would be greatly appreciated.
Cant wait to get up there but just hope these huge seas dont do too much damage in the mean time
