  1. Well done great to see a shot of the bridge in the background. I saw another great one once of a huge Beakie breaking the water, with Centrepoint Tower in the background.

    I'd call that fish for 78.6894kg :biggrin2:

No way plankton that fish would go 78.689

    I reacon 78.198

    Great fish guys

  2. Barredup, You monitor your own fishing techniques around the fishing rules. And obviously they have broken the rules. There are many uncontrollable things that can happen crossed lines etc . Check the AGFA rules. :ranting2::ranting2: It is good to see this been shown as it shows great comarderie and honesty amongst these hardened Marlin Competition Fishers.

    Hi Troy

    Thanks for the reply,

I was disqualified for what should of been the first marlin of the season last year, but at that time was not up to date with rules and regs.

But the guys fishing lizard are seasoned pros so I'm guessing longer leaders, wrong tags, etc would not be the reason,

Would live to hear the actual reason they forfeited there fish.

  3. Hi all,

Headed out wide yesterday in search for YFT and BFT. We put out a nice spread of skirts at browns then trolled all the way out to heatons hill. No hits at all...

We then cubed heatons for a couple of hours and didnt raise a fish.

Ive been doing alot of research as we are new to chasing tuna. But have been fishing for years. Am i doing anything wrong or is it that the fish simply wernt around?

When you guys talk of temp changes is 17.2 to 17.9 a significant temp change to stop and start cubing in?

Also when cubing at heatons the westerly was up a little and the boat was drifting alot is this no good to cube in?

Any help appreciated as we have been out a few times now and the biggest fish we are to land are striped tuna.

  4. Was out all day today, leave the bait at home and pack some lures, current was raging today, could not strip our cubes fast enough, we should of spent more time trolling as everything else was perfect, water temp and bait everywhere, but hey that's fishin

  5. Hey mate too much to say to get you safely off shore if you have never been before. Do a post and get some people with offshore experience to show you a thing or too. the sea takes no prisoners. Happy to show you a thing or two when the competion season is over.(3 weeks)

  6. Hey Mate

Line gone was prob a wahoo. They attack the line were it hits the water and leaves a bubble trail! there have been a few caught out of Sydney in the last few weeks

    Hi

Finished work at 5am, straight home and a bit of sleep out of bed and packing the boat at 8am.

Left home , fueled up and left Grays Point ramp at 930 latest start for ages.

Ignored the surface action in the Port and headed for the wild blue yonder. Headed east from port Hacking till

we saw something of interest. Happened to be a few mutton birds wandering around. We were in 90m of water so set out a spread of lures and a teaser. After about 10 min saw what was probably a free jumping beakie so worked the area for 15min without result, then continued trolling towards the east.

Got to 120 m and found a small current edge and turned left to troll along it. After about 10min there was a big splash and something missed one of the short lures,...30secs later another miss on the next lure out, then another...

getting frustrating. Then a solid hookup the line snapped from the outrigger the rod buckled over and line started to peel of the reel against a heavy drag, then nothing...no lure ...no trace ..no double, just what appeared to be a clean cut or break, no fraying no curly not ends. Even though there were several explosions on the lures we did not even get a climpse of what the fish was.

Reset the lures and worked the area for a while then moved on dreaming of what might have been.

We then continued to the north in approx 100 - 120m checking out fish trap bouys, even found a log covered in barnacles and other old gps marks till we got to the peak just after 12 without another strike. Jigged the peak for a few rat kings and bonito. One boat fishing with live bait appeared to be getting a few reasonable to good kings.

Packed up and headed back to port hacking, Back at the ramp we had been motoring/trolling for 5hrs and used over 40litres of fuel without a fish. And we'll go again soon. But going to fish the banks in two weeks time for the ANSA comp first.

Got out a T-Bone and a bottle of red for tea and just about to get in the spa before I fall asleep.

    Bruce
