Hi boys, hope all is well, weather is looking good, time to sneak out there again.
Just for those interested, we weighed 2 y/fin last week at SGFC on 16/8/11 and got very accurate short measurements, the 40kg fish was 1340mm long and the 50kg fish was 1430mm long.

I have a habbit of now measuring all my fish before release and after kill, and from records kept we can estimate how heavy the fish is by its short length,from 8kg snapper,150kg marlin and 50,60,70,80 kilo tuna, because we still talk in kilograms not centimetres.If you did get an accurate measurement of the fish, usually you can estimate the weight of the fish to within afew kilos.If you did post back and we can work out a weight.
Looks like a nice fat one, good effort,top fish on 15.

Great to read blogs from first timers,you can feel the excitment between the words,well done boys wait till a 40-50kg yellowfin smashes your lure.cheers good effort.

Thanks for that info.Nice to know those weights,but bit of a disappointment,we thought they might of gone a bit heavier then that.
Geez i got a bit more work to do to crack that 20lb'er then.

i have one from VicTag and it is not all that far off the mark for vic and nsw fish not too sure about NZ fish but
anyway by my chart is has 91cm = 8.5kg (18.7lb) 88cm = 7.7kg (16.9lb) and 86cm = 7.2kg (15.87lb)

Just spent some time in NZ snapper fishing soft plastics.We released countless amounts of good snapper.We had no accurate scales on the boat and could not put true weights to our biggest fish before releasing.
We quickly measured our 3 biggest which went 91cms,88cms and 86cms.These lenghts were total lenghts from the fishes mouth to the tip of its tail (not fork of the tail) ,all of these 3 fish were healthy and well rounded.
Does anyone know how heavy these fish would weight in kgs or lbs.We are very sure they are all in the magical 20lb plus club but by how much???

Found the fish cubing in 18.2 degrees celcius. 800fms East of Browns.
