Mate please start a new fishing show.... great fish.

Great king for the bay.....mate. I have a HDS sounder also and replaced the transducer with an AIR-MAR p66 transducer. Fish targets are a lot more easy to identify with a lot less shit allover the screen.

Great report mate ... and from past years, you are a great wealth of knowledge. Ive also broken many rods from fishing to transporting them or just being a silly bugger but yet to see one go BANG in the but section...LOL hope they replace it for you.
-
Wow guys that was a good read, on one ugly fish that sounds to pack a punch.....Now im thinking my mate could have got a belt from it and not letting me in on the laugh.

Great report mate... Nice to here the yakkas are back in numbers in the area you mentioned. They are a must, if we are all to be in with a chance to nail LEGAL size kings for dinner.

Hi guys, ive fished the bay for many years also and im leaning towards the Port extension as the problem because i never found a problem until it start and its never recovered yet. On a positive note the more bait fish that stay in the bay and the cleaner the water can stay without storm water runoff should give us a great chance at having a crack at them.

Love to see one swiming around my boat...awsome

The only thing i hate about EGIMAX is that it stains the jigs.

Get a furuno sounder all the pro's use them so that must say something.
I agree , Get the furuno.. for off-shore work ,and i think its Aussie made...As for fords being taxis as a comparision to the Pro.s having furuno sounders i cant agree with this as contracts and deals goven this industry..Proven performance and word of mouth has gotten Furuno a quality name and no mass advertising and angler sponserships to push there product. IMO. Check out LOWRANCE on facebook and you will see the happy customers they have world wide ...NOT. Whem your warranty is up... toss it in the Bin because your head will spin the amout they will hit you with to repair the sounder... the up side is they will offer you a new sounder at a discounted price thats some how close to the requested repair bill to the old one.

We went out to give it a crack, with not much luck. We managed to find some great temp beaks SE of the canyons we put in the hours and only managed one albacore.the weather wasn't the best yesterday, Hats off to the charters who go out day in and day out, I feel battered today.
Me also , got 15mile SE of Browns and it was pumping, Landed 2 albacore ..... came across Long Liner bouys and that made me head for home. 2mile out from botany head seen a massive seal over 100kgs easy smashing into a huge squid or cuttle fish flicking it into the air and just shredding it... awsome sight of the day.

Reckon ill be on the water 6.30

hello mate.... i bought the same unit and not happy with it as it freezes when it feels like it..even if you pickup a bit of speed...
I haven't tried that depth yet, have done the upgrade also. So lowered the tranducer hopefully that might do something...
Ill have my fingers crossed for you as im out of options on how to get it working in some sort of decent depth...Im going to reset the system on it tommorow and see how i go. if its still shithouse i have to send it back to the dealer and let them deal with it, will probably buy a cheap $150 sounder for the meantime and i know of one what works.
-
where is your transducer located?
Right hand side of motor...on the tranducer mount plate that it built in by barcrusher

I've got a 7 and 5 hooked in together via Ethernet, and nmea2000 to the gauges, outboard, fuel and the likes.
Cheers Leo
HDS 10 gen 1 and it still sux at the moment.

I have the LOWRANCE HDS 10 GEN 1 and cant get it to read past 300 meters, up graded the software from lowrance site didnt help, the worst part is that it locks up and dosnt do anything...like it gets lost. When crossing back over the to shallower water it finds itself and is ok again. Im really not happy with it being a true BLUE water sounder, starting to think it really belongs in a BASS lake back in the USA.
-
Awsome Blue Fin , i could never hold one up at that weight ,reckon my back would snap.I trolled 10mile past browns today for ZIP.

I've found you should also slow your ping speed down. As the transducer sends a beam to bounce off the bottom and back, and it obviously takes a lot longer in deep water. Also found while traveling at troll speed you need to turn the gain down, especially in rough conditions
Cheers Leo
Updated the sounder from Lowrance website to 4.1.36 version and I'll try the above ping and gain as you mentioned Leo. Thanks very much for your help and fingers crossed it works.
Cheers stevo.

G'day
I've found you need to change the settings manually to get good readings at depth. We have had about 1000m offSydney on a 600w transducer. Although that was maxed out so far, and very patchy. But we regularly get bottom in 7-800m.
Is the sounder running the latest software, or is it a gen 2? Are you running it in auto or manual mode?
Cheers Leo
It's a GEN 1 and did the software upgrade 3 months ago...so will check for the latest update.... Depth was on auto setting set on 50khz and 98% gain.
Thanks stevo

Anyone one else having the same problem and not able to sound any of the water colum after 300m? It really gets lost and packs it's bags and goes to lunch. If anyone is looking at buying one and using it at great depths hold off because it's not only mine that's doing it. Placing the 1kw Bigfoot transducer has not helped it also.

Dam leather Jackets, they are the size of a yakka and they eat and school up like a PIHRANA. Lower a bait down first and slowley wind it up to check if the jackets are under you. The squid are on the chew with the sephia in pure white being my favorite at the moment.
