Hi, there are three 40HP Mercs of that age, one is a 2 cylinder and the others are 3 cylinders with one being a Seapro engine. None of them of come STD with battery charging if a rope start engine. The kits are about $120 depending on what you have. If you post or PM me your serial number easy to tell what you have and the cost of the kit including the Raider discount.

thanks heaps for the help (everyones help) the serial number is ono12147 yeah its a pull start so i doubting it. It would be great if i could get a cost on a kit

im pretty shore it does if it is electric start it will ,what model is it? ,2 0r 4 stroke ,tiller or remote set up ?

it is a 2 stroke pull start tiller 2001 cylinder model

I have just recently inherited an old 4.3m abalone with a 2001 40hp merc on the back. I need to wire up running lights, sounder anchor lights and bilige pump. I was just wonder how I could find out if my motor has a charging system. And if it doesnt what would be the best way to power everything.
