  1. Good luck Ray,

I not long got back from doing a darwin trip with a group of blokes and after reading numerous articles of guys making the trip to darwin for years on end and being unlucky, i'm proud to say that i caught a 72cm barra and unfortunately not much else. Hoping to go back again next year and get another one along with one of those big black dewies that i missed out on catching.

I read the" how to post pics" post but i can't see the attachment button on my screen or anywhere for that matter so i'm a little confused how to so maybe at a later date.

    cheers.

  2. maybe first thing to do is to take your brothers set up to the park to practise cause if he can cast it, it's not going to make that much of a difference by getting a different brand rod & reel to the shimano, you may still have the same problem. I use a number of set ups and if holding a heavy rod is a concern of yours, you could try the the 12ft silstar crystal blue / crystal power tip rated @ 8-12kg yet sensitive enough to feel bream bite and quite light. They are quite wippy and can cast a mile. I have my own pref. for reels,i like the daiwa emblem pro, okuma salina 11 10000 & 16000 which i use on a multitude of rods.

I'm not a bad caster but i was fishing with this guy once who had an overhead with a 9ft rod who outcast me. i couldn't believe my eyes ( just to throw another spanner in the worx)

    cheers

  3. Tragic news for Bob, i took the misses on a fishing charter down narooma way at xmas time and all i caught was 1 moey - 1.5kg, SHE.... caught snapper (2kg), moey's ranging from 2kg up to 3.5kg and they were monsters with me baiting her hooks. WTF !!

Now she has some insight into fishing and how the bloke right beside can be doing the exact same thing and it just won't be his day.

    Nice catch.

  4. Hi Guys,

Pretty good reading all this info about alveys - has anyone had experience with the new snyder jack alvey special rod ? It doesn't have one of those really big first guides however i'm not sure if it makes that much of a difference - your thoughts ?

    Cheers

    Pete

  5. I've got one. If you looking for a heavy rod that can only cast a 20gm lure 10 meters, has no feel or sensitivity and is still 6 ft long when you break it down then the Surf Assassin isn't the rod for you...

They are a weapon mate. Only thing is if you're looking to fish small soft plastics or similar then there's an even lighter nitro rod that's 10ft long (the name escapes me) that would be even better. But the surf assassin is capable of putting serious hurt on a fish, can cast a 30gm lure a mile and can cope admirably with lures as light at 10 gm too. You feel every bite and bump and its so light you barely notice it. and whats more, when i pull it down its the same length as my 2 piece bream rods. Match it to a sustain 4000 and it's a top lure outfit for pelagics.

:clapping: right on the money matey, agree with you all the way and the 10ft version is the sniper and it's a weapon also, the 2 piece version anyhow, can't speak for the 3 piece.
