  1. That is absolutely disgusting I cannot believe that they can get away with this. I must say however that I am not surprised. Almost everyone I know who has the heartache of owning a volvo has trouble. A mate of mine in the Navy works on their RHIBs most of which are or were powered by diesel volvo's has nothing at all good to say about them. They barely get an hour out of them before they have new troubles.

  2. we took 4 from a 5 way hook up yesterday off Ulladulla. Same story, lots of birds, none working. Beer and music until we noticed a tuna bird ducking his head 100m away as opposed to all the other cruising. A sharp turn to port and 20 seconds later mayhem!

All low 30's to low 40's, absolutely terrible trip home when the westerly picked up a bit earlier than the forecast I'd read.

    Good day!

  3. the biggest mako I've traced and noosed was 150kg mate and it was an awesome feeling, especially in a small boat. The boat that went down was a 27ft Cobia, a big yank CC that had a couple of twin 200 yammies on the back so heaps of weight. This thing would naturally sit bum down, so add reversing, fairly average conditions, an angler down the back, and yeah, backing down on a fish wouldn't have been a real good idea. At least everyones OK and the rest of us get to learn a lesson.

  4. Bad luck guys,I hooked a big black in about 60 meteres of water short of the close fad that im not willing to even guess the weight of last year we had it on for 20 minutes and 24kg just didnt

stop it,I think its only a matter of time before someone knocks one of sydney over the 500 pound mark, you would have to be naive to think that they dont exist out there at the moment,if not bigger?

    Agree!

This is where Fishythings and I differ in opinion. I reckon it was a looooong way above what he reckons. My old man has one hanging on his wall (his first) that's 133kg and this fish wouldn't have gone close to fitting on the wall. Don't forget Scotty you weren't sure that that bigger stripie was even a marlin until I reminded you we'd seen it a few times, I reckon you need a refraction mate. BTW our new lures should be here late next week. Then we should be out looking for another fish like this one. I should get a leave pass, Kathie had a little girl last night! No more high and dry awaiting the arrival.

  5. Estimated Size of the fish?

I'd love to throw a number out there mate and I've got one on my mind but gamefishermen are pretty quick to eat their own without evidence and the adrenaline rush does affect your eyes but I am willing to say that the biggest black I've seen up close weighed 133 and this one dwarfed him

  6. Nice report, thanks. Can you explain this sentence to me though, I dont get it -

" I've been thinking about it for 36 hours now and all we could've done was fish 37 and bigger. He'd run so hard against 8+kg of drag that the spool was empty due to all belly yet the fish was only 20m away"

He was hooked on 24kg line so the drag was set at 8kg. He took the lure and ran aft for a bit, then turned and came back at the boat in a loop so fast that the reel was still being emptied in what looked like a backwards direction but actually wasn't due to a big belly in the line in the water. When a fish changes direction and runs hard they can seem to be somewhere they're not. The first indication he was beside us, not 500m aft of us, was the water 20m off our stbd side erupting in the biggest black I've been lucky enough to see. The reel was almost empty at this point and he was still charging away so we upped the drag. Even if we'd been able to chase him the line would still have that massive belly and we'd still get spooled. We never got the chance to catch up

  7. 5-4-2 for the day. Sydney is really turning it on, spotted 2 separate free jumpers that day. Thanks for the invite. Good luck with your new addition.

Thanks for working the deck mate. Did u get my emails? The video won't email, I don't know what I'm doing wrong maybe it's too big but bring a usb stick over when u come to get your watch if u want it

  8. Began 2012 a mile short of the 12 mile and about 30 minutes after marking a solid fish on the HDS the shotgun went off. Fellow site member who I've been having man dates with "fishythings" grabs the penn 50 which is slowly peeling line and stick it home harder which causes the water to vanish in a massive black hole out the back and the biggest black marlin I've ever seen crashes back into the water and gets really upset.

After a short burst the penn 50 is almost empty and we hadn't even finished clearing lines/teasers but had to push the drag up or we were done for sure and sure enough it goes ping about a second before the black crashes out of the water again right beside the boat, now free. Before people start about what we could have done I've been thinking about it for 36 hours now and all we could've done was fish 37 and bigger. He'd run so hard against 8+kg of drag that the spool was empty due to all belly yet the fish was only 20m away.

The next few hours saw us head for the shelf with our tails between our legs after our experiences at the 12 but our day was only getting started. We popped 2 cherries, my sister in law and brother in law on a 65 ish and 110 ish stripie, anohter 5 or 6 strikes, one more loss on a JB mini Dingo, all whilst sipping beers and cooking snags!

Keep up the good work Sydney, if only the missus wasn't due in 3 days I'd be out there every day!

    Dan
