Landed this fella having a bit of a flick tonight landbased in Sydney harbour.

Pulled the hook on a much bigger fish after a battle that left my arms in agony. They're in a deep hole close to shore right on the tide change. I don't think they hang around for more than 20-30 mins.

  2. they farm heaps of kingies in sa in pens like tuna. sometimes when the pens had a malfunction(?), the legal limit would drop to 45cm for a few weeks cause thousands would get out and run havoc. kind of makes you wonder about how big they get them before the market.

  3. great job but wow that handle... :1yikes: personally i would miss the smaller double style handle that make these reels so great for high speed spinning.

  4. i love fishing for mulloway and i know that they move around but i also know that they are very likely to return to the same holes during the day, obviously spending great deals of their lives in a certain vicinity. In adelaide i would fish for them in west lakes and the port river but these fish would always go back, again everyone had their opinion on whether it was safe or not and i will probably keep the same practice with harbour jew. Im not so familiar with the habits of harbour kingfish yet though, what are peoples opinion on taking them? Do they move in and out of the harbours reguarly or is this an old wives tale?

Thanks again though everyone, this is great info for a landbased fisho.

  5. 99.9% of my fishing is catch and release but being new to Sydney and having read a lot about polluted waterways i was curious that on the off chance i was to keep a feed, where would it be from? im land-based and guess some of the beaches would be fine but I've read that even east of harbour bridge is toxic, how far east? what about botany( i know cooks is suicide), middle harbour or hawksbury? any info on prolonging my life would be greatly appreciated.

  6. enjoying a good flick at blue point on the sp and getting into a couple of decent salmon only to have a good deal of my braid stripped and lost by a red gondola style boat that decided to get as close as possible to me. This is the most frustrating thing i can think of happening to a land based fisho. I was even waving to him to turn as i frantically wound line in, only to have him give a cheeky smile and look the other way. Thanks for ruining my day loser.

  7. been surfing curly the last couple of days and bout the second to last walkway to the beach at the north end there is a really deep gutter, if not hole that is over head deep only a few feet from shore. Im 6'2. Been thinking of hitting it myself at dusk with some big hard bodies and rubber.

  8. where are you gonna be fishing bouts? I've just started a collection too and cant wait to score a fish on one. Im land based too and new to sydney. Last additions to my surface lures are a coulple of the yozuri sashimi pencils... Bit pricey though but seem to swim really well... Just need to see something start following.

  9. landed my first fish since moving to Sydney yesterday off the blocks at port botany( looks out towards the heads). My first cast using a flick bait was smashed by a thumper salmon, then again by two more in about 20 mins. All fish were easy over 3kg and were stripping line from my little Luna 103, i could only just get both hands around their girth before being sent back to fight another day. sorry for no pics but it was my first time there and didn't exactly have the correct footwear for the place to be messing around with pictures and what not.

cheers to baz and tesh for tips on the place and letting me fish next to you guys cause that place is kind of scary.

Now just to find one of these Sydney kings I've heard so much about.

    donut off.

    smuz.

  10. thanks slinky for the reply, i've moved to the northern suburbs so i guess the northern harbour will be my start, sorry, dont know it's name yet but it's the spit entrance harbour.

I love all kinds of angling but at the moment i'm dedicated to catching big mulloway on my baitcast outfit(103 luna against a tdadvantage) with lures, i know i should be using a thready but a baitcast is just so much fun when you hook up(im not far off matching my casting distance). So really all i'm asking for is where are land based spots available to a new dedicated sports fisho? driving around, alot seems like private land, should i google earth some areas?

  11. hey im new here in sydney and i was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up and point me in the right direction. im from adelaide where i spent 99.9% of my fishing time chasing mulloway on lures, so im familiar with the fish but not where to start my nsw assualt. at the moment im fishing shore based until i get a new kayak and any info on areas to start would be greatly appreciated, you dont have to give specifics, i'll take care of the those.

great site guys, see ya out there. smuz.
