  1. Defiantly a brown trout, and a cracking one at that. Atlantic salmon do need to go to the sea to mature. Have been lucky enough to fish in Scotland on many occasions and have landed TRUE Atlantic salmon to 20lbs.

The ones here have all be stocked fish and are unable to breed. They still run the rivers because it's in there genetics. The 1m+ fish that you speak of would have all been raised to that size before being released in the dam. All the salmon released would slowly die. Once the fish move into the fresh water, they stop feeding. And are primarily there to spawn. Hence why they are in terrible condition. Atlantic salmon do in fact have white mouths and you do not get them in NZ as previously thought, they are a completely different species to an Atlantic salmon.

  2. It depends on the size of the motor and how much service work it's had.

    I have a 2012 175hp Suzuki with 215 hour.

I take it to get service every 100 hours and I also self change the gear box and motor oil every 50 hours, because it's used for upto 13 hours a day none stop.

  3. Hello Raiders

Does anyone know where I could get a set of bow rails made for my 6m victory ?

Tried to source a few place but no body seems to want to do it.

Also I'm looking to get a custom targa for the boat and was wondering where I can get the fabric and clears from ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  4. If your looking to repower go for a Suzuki mate, never had a problem with it. We have a 175 pushing our 6m victory. With a 200L fuel tank, Fished two days well beyond heatons both days with 3 people on board for 300L. Motor didn't stop for the whole day

Had the boat just over a year and just ticked over

200 hours, never missed a beat.

    That's just my personal opinion.

  5. Hello raiders.

With the weather looking excellent for the weekend and having Friday off packed the boat and prepared to run wide of heatons. With reports of bluefin around we added my younger sister to the crew to see if we could get her onto her first sbt. We blasted out to about 800fathoms and set the spread and headed to heatons. Water looked good and was marking a fair bit of bait. We managed to pick up a couple of albies around the hill. Then we pushed out a bit wider to see if we could find anything but no luck. Then there was chatter on the radio of fish being caught around heatons, so turned to boat and began trolling towards it again. We could just see some boats on the horizon when we marked the bluefin on the sounder and sure enough the long rigger and shot gun went off.

We managed to land both fish one was 45kg and the other was around 35. Let the smaller fish go and kept one for the family.

The younger sister manage to landed one as well and she was stoked.

Bite wasn't until late in the afternoon though.

Fish Saturday as well and what a changed, covered plenty of ground and burnt a lot of fuel for nothing. Not even an albie. Weather for the weekend coming is looking crap so looks like we will have to wait before we can get out again.

    Thanks for reading.

    Cheers Grant

  6. Great work guys.

I am heading down to JB on tues.

Prob launch from Murrays beach and head SE.

Any recommendations of where to try. ?

Are they still getting them out from Ulladulla. ?

Good luck and tight lines to all who have a go.

Maybe look at heading out off batemans bay the water that was holding the fish looks to have pushed a bit further south.

  7. Hello fellow raiders

With the weather and the fishing reports looking good, the sea surface charts where checked and marks were made. The boat was packed last night and the trip down to Jervis bay was made this morning. On the water by 8 were were at the 1700 fathom by 10 20. The water was looking good so the spread was deployed, we didn't have to wait long, we found the school at 11 and then it happens the corner went off. After a solid 2 hour fight on a stubborn fish we boated a gods 73kg sbt. The school followed the boat around for the whole fight. We managed to land 4 on various methods only keeping two, the 73 and a 40kg model. After that we just fed the fish at the side of the boat. There where some monsters in the school but it's was such a privilege to witness these majestic beast glide up and take a pilchard off the surface.

The fish are certainly there, it's just about getting out and coving water to find them.

  10. Hi mate

We fished off Jervis bay on Saturday for 2 yellowfin a big eye and a dollie. Also lost a marlin on a lure.

Had to travel a long long way to find the fish but when we found them they were every where, they were only little rats though.

  12. Hello Raiders

There seems to be plenty of strioed marlin kicking about on the shelf off Jervis bay, seen quite alot of free jumpers & raised a few as well . Fished out there on thursday & managed 2 fish from 3 bites, both were big striped marlin one was bout 100kg nd the other 120kg, didnt get any good close ups of the first fish though, hooks straightened after we put the tag in, we got a few photos of the second on though.

  13. Hi all

Firstly Merry Christmas to all, i managed to get out to the shelf on friday & Saturday off Jervis bay. we trolled both days on friday we found exellent water full of bait we raised & hooked a striped marlin but after a few minutes it managed to throw the hooks. We continued to troll around & managed to get three small yellowfin. Saturday was a different story, the water & bait had gone & we trolled the whole day for nothing but that is fishing for you.
