  1. Thanks Kingie Chaser. Yes like anywhere it can turn on. We got onto some cobia about a month ago but mackerel are proving very difficult. Might head up to double island point as I’ve heard it’s good up there.

  2. Hi Guys,

I’ve been fishing Noosa the last few days and haven’t been doing it tough finding mackerel. Just seeing if anyone can give me some advice for Chardons and north reef. I’ve got GPS marks but can’t seem to find much structure or bait out there.

Thinking of heading to double island point on the weekend so if anyone has any advice or GPS marks for that area I’d really appreciate it.

Just to add, why do you want to use Greenwell Point? there is lots of ramps closer, Port Kembla, Shellharbour, Kiama, all much closer than Greenwell Point, even Shoalhaven Heads, then a quick run down the river to Greenwell Point, not saying there is anything wrong with the location, just a simple "why"

It just seems quicker to get out to the banks from Greenwell point. It’s around 25-30 NM from Shellharbour vs 7 NM from Greenwell. I’ll definitely be fishing out of Kiama and Shellharbour at some stage though. I’ve heard they’re pretty good too.

  4. Hi fish_more,

I’ve actually been looking at north west and it seems like an unreal spot. My only worry is the Anchorage for my glass boat. Though I haven’t found anywhere that looks as good and it’s easy to get fuel and supplies over the via the barge. Just need to pick the right time to go and get the leave pass from the wife sorted! Cheers

  5. Hi raiders,

I’m planning a trip towards the end of this year or early next year. I have a 6.1m pioneer centre console, I’ve got a 2 week leave pass, happy to camp on islands and looking to target mackerel, GT’s, trout etc.

I did a trip last year where we camped on hook island in the Whitsundays for 5 nights and we ended up getting bugger all. I definitely don’t want to have another donut trip, so if anyone could recommend some spots to look at that’d be great.

    Thanks 👍

  6. Hi guys/girls,

We’re going camping on Hook island (Whitsundays) in a month for a week and I was seeing if anyone had any marks or advice to share for the area?

I’m thinking of heading to leeper shoal and jester reef (near Deloraine island) or would it be better getting out to the GBR (weather permitting)?

Also seeing if it’s worth running down to Edward and yuindalla islands?

I’ve fished the area a few years ago and got mackerel, trout, long tail tuna around dolphin point and mackerel bay but it was fairly tough given it’s such a large area to fish.

Any advice would be much appreciated 👍

  7. Hi guys, just seeing if anyone has any experience with camping on the islands in the Whitsundays? We’re going up in August with 2 x 6 metre boats and are looking for the best place to camp where we can get the boat ashore without too much trouble. Also looking for somewhere that’s fairly protected from S/E winds. Also not sure if certain sites are worse than others for midges etc?

Any advice would be great. Thanks 👍

  8. Just interested to know if anyone has installed a boat collar and if so is it worth doing?

I’ve got a 4.75 side console that feels a bit ‘tippy’ at rest so I’m considering fitting a collar.

    Thanks 👍

Some excellent fish there! Real arm stretchers! How many days did you fish? Kokomo Island looks amazing... and expensive!?

Kokomo was awesome. Had a centre console for sports fishing and game boat for marlin. I only went out for 3 half days. I got married there so didn’t want to piss the missus off too much. But yes it’s lots of $$$’s

  10. Yeah we got a 20-25kg wahoo, dropped 2 decent Spanish at the boat, got a fair few decent kings around fish rock, 2 cobia, got heaps of mac tuna, 2 spotties trolling the current line in the bay after the southerly. It was pretty hard going with that water. Went to the fad once and it was dead. Really needed those southerlies to blow to clean it up. Also live baited small mac tuna and put them down around 20 metres on the downrigger and got smoked by a lot of big fish and hooked a few monster sharks we couldn't get up but fought to try and get out gear back for ages.

  11. Yeah we go out across the bar. Be careful going out on a run out tide with a north easterly swell and/or wind. How big is your boat? We have a 6.5m centre cab and the worst day was a 10 knot nor'easter with a 1.8 easterly swell with a run out tide and it was as bad as I would go out in. All other days were fine even when the swell was 2 metres from the south and a 20 knot southerly. You would also want to make sure the river is clean because we had a bit of grief with the dirty water.
