  1. Was planning on spending a quiet night on the Hawksbury tonight and catch a boat full of huge jews. The :wife: is spending the weekend at her parents house. Spent 3 hours out getting fresh bait today and have a nice bait tank full of live slimeys, yakka and 7 squid (i never catch that many squid) and now the sky looks like its about to fall in. The :1fishing1: gods are playing with me :1badmood::1badmood::1badmood:

  2. post-1707-1204616505_thumb.jpgHi guys,

Spent today on the harbour looking to catch my first king, and i guess i kind of succeeded. Morning started gathering bait as ussual, got 1 squid and a few yakka's and then headed amongst the moored boats near the spit bridge (my boat is quite small so couldn't get amongst the swell). Put out a sqid strip and about 10 mins later it went off. My fishing buddy called it for a small king but after a short fight i pulled up a 74cm Cobia. Now thats about the last thing i would be expecting to catch in the harbour, am i un-educated, are these often caught this far south in estuaries. Any way great day on the water and a mixed bag of fish including a good bream, a whiting, a couple of flatties and a leather jacket.

  3. Hi guys,

Got the whole of next week off work :yahoo: and was hoping to devote it to catching my first king. I live on the central coast and have a Stacer SF 400 bass elite to fish from (not the best sea fairing vessel). I was hoping that you guys might be able to help me with where and when to fish and rigs / bait ect. I am by no means a master at catching squid but have a little spot i can ussually get a few, so bait should be ok and i have a 7' 8-15lb loomis with a 4000 twin power on it with 20lb fire line, so tackle should be ok. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Gary

  4. Probably start with something cheap to practise but the ultimate goal would be a 7' spinning rod to throw big SP,s at jews and big flatties.

I was wondering if there are any reasonable local suppliers or do you get your components from the US. PM me if mentioning them breaks any forum rules.

  5. Thanks for the info guys,

it is a manual start motor and there is no wiring coming from the motor at all. I purchased the motor new about 3 years ago. There are 2 wires under the cover that just go no where, could this be part of this system.

Heuy, do you keep the part that i need in stock, might pick one up from you when i get the minn kota in a couple of weeks.

    Thank Gary

  6. Hi Guys,

I was hoping that someone might be able to help me. I have a Mariner 30hp 2 stroke outboard on my stacer 400 bass elite. Looking on the mercury website it says that my motor has a 6 amp (84 watt) under the (Alternator System:). Does this mean i have been unnessasarily charging my battery when all i needed to do was conect this system or is it just the system that supplies power to the motor to run?

    Thanks Gary

  7. Hi Guys,

Finally talked the :wife: into letting me invest in an electric motor for the boat and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of who does the best deals in the sydney area on minn kota RT55 bow mount electric.

    Thanks in advance Gary

  8. I was out at Hewitt Marine the other day just dreaming and the guys there seemed really good. Had the time to have a chat with me and even gave me a free DVD on the E-Tec motors.

  9. Thanks for the warm welcome guys, it was a great session.

I have also been strugling up until this week, but i always have all of my luck in Feb, March and April esspecially with the big girls. Last year in about March a mate of mine lost the biggest flattie i have ever seen because i called it for a ray and folded the net up and put it away :ranting2: . He has just started talking to me again. If there are any raiders who want to get together for a fish around brisbane waters or the entrance let me know, i'm local now

  10. Hi raiders,

Fished early Tuesday morning in Brisbane waters by myself for 3 good flathead and a shovel nose shark/ray. Got on the water about 4:45am and the water was perfect. Went about finding a school of tailor to put out live near the rip bridge to hopefully tempt that big jew but although the bait collection went well the jew fishing didn't. Just the shovely to show for about 3 hours.

After that i decided to try and through some SP's around and try to salvage the trip with some good lizards so off i went to my favorite sand bank and what would you know a 46cm flathead on my first cast :yahoo: !Then 2 casts later another fish of around the same size but because i was fishing alone and struggling to guide the fish into the net and hold it at the same time a little head shake at the boat and he was gone. After the same thing happened at least 7 times in the next 2 hours i was begining to think there was something wrong, and after racking my brain i came up with the only thing i had changed was the type of jig head i was using. On further examination i noticed that the hook was quite thin and the barb was very small (more suited to big bream than a flathead shaking its head).

I then decided to call it a day after changing my jighead and having no more luck in that spot, but on the way back to the ramp i came accross a very sandy peice of bottom that any self respecting flathead would love t call home. So i killed the motor and launched the 70mm squidgy fish over the back (with the boat still slowly coasting) and as the SP hit the bottom i was on again and after a short fight landed another 45cm fish. Clearly calling it a day was put off for a while and i went about throwing my squidgy around a bit more and i didn't have to wait long and i was on again but this was a much better fish that made the stradic 2500 sing (oh i love that sound) and the 1-3kg t-curve buckle over, but again after a short fight i landed a respectable 62cm fish. I thought that would take alot of beating so i headed back to the ramp and called it a day.

  11. TRUE; but still not the same as doing it against England :( being a Bangladesh supporter must be nearley as heart breaking as being a Souths supporter :1prop::074::074::074:

Remember they had us on the ropes in the last match, and none of his team mates has done it. I say good on him!!!:thumbup::thumbup:

  12. be thankful that you got the privalege of seeing that great monster swimming around Gary, a lot of people would lose a fish like that early in the fight and be left wondering what it was, its great to see such amazing fish still in our systems.

    and anyway,

im sure you would have relased it so it saved you the hassle

Its more the priceless bragging rights that come with a fish like that and i would have loved to have an official measurement and a photo to share with you guys :tease:

  13. Took my little Stacer sports fisher out with a mate this morning in Brisbane waters to chase some flathead. Been fishing for about an hour with a couple of reasonable fish landed (2 Flathead one 52cms and the other 56cm) when my mates rod buckled over and that wonderful sound of the line peeling off the reel filled the air. After about 10 Mins fighting i was convinced that he had hooked a large ray, so i wasn't in any big hurry to grab the net. When he got it closer to the boat so i could see color i could see what appeared to be a smallish ray in the depths but as it got closer to the surface i realised it was the mother of all flat head. I know this sounds just like all those other fishing stories, but i had to tell it because it was the biggest lizard i have ever laid eyes on. I caught on 87cm last summer and it was dwaffed by this monster. Anyway the story hasn't got such a happy ending, as i put the net in the water the big girl just spat the hook out :( , hovered on the surface for a second just to taunt us and disappeared into the deep :05:
