  1. mate, the general rule is stay away from it. especially in sydney!!!!

just think, the day after the fish will be on the bite and ready to go

p.s. = generalisation, i am from syd and know there are "considerate" people around, they are simply outweighed ;)

  2. You are too right about being lucky.. esp with the family in the car. As Gazza said, it's strange nothing happened on the way down to the ramp, glad to hear everything ended up ok.

Everything on my trailer that can be padlocked is (don't know in this case, but theres always a chance little !@#'s are around). Knowing my luck though I will come back to the ramp oneday and the car will be missing with the towbar unbolted and sitting on the ground with the trailer still attached. :)

  3. I agree: A mandatory template would be great.

Also, if possible you might be able to disable reply's on that section of the board so that all transactions or "comments" must be made via pm.

Not a whinge, just an observation / suggestion :D

  4. Port Hacking has the worst collection of ramps (parking) in Sydney. With all of them you have to get there early or be prepared for a walk (eg. dolans on a summer day up that @#$% hill for a mile). Your best bet would be Grays Point this is a good ramp and with the size of port hacking it takes no time to get across to where you want to fish anyway, just get there early..

I just fish out of a 12ft tinny in the Hacking so use the Gunnamatta ramp, I've seen some interesting things go on down there with glass boats :)

  5. After every outing I wash all surfaces of rods and reels with warm soapy water (don't submerge your reels..) and wash off. Give your line a good soaking and wash also to get rid of any salt as this may damage it. After this I spray some lanolin onto a rag and rub over everything as this protects. I also wash any skirts / lures I have had out.

With reels @ $400 a piece and lures @ >$30 a piece, I can't afford not to. Anything looked after will last a long time to come, be reliable and work as it should :)

  6. It was going to die anyway. I can't see the sense in spending money on saving it.. When put in perspective I think they said around 2million first up, wouldn't you rather see that money go towards cancer research or something more worth while?

Or, can anyone comment on using whale strips for jews. I heard they are decent. Would you need to salt them? :)

  7. Hey Rizzo,

Didn't know you were on fishraider, we had a chat on the ramp as we were leaving on Sunday.

We didn't manage any unfortunately, and didn't see much else being pulled up by the boats trolling so well done on that fish.

    I did mange this though...

Oh well, atleast the weather was good.

  8. It's should be fine if launching or retrieving late afternoon / night. Gets a bit crowded during peak times, as does anywhere.

As far as being safe, I've never had trouble there, but know people who have. I suppose its the luck of the draw like anywhere you choose to park at night. Don't leave anything in the car, make sure trailer is padlocked and make sure spare wheel is padlocked.

I refuse to go there during summer due to every jet skier (hey, nothing against jet skiers) within 300km of Sydney using it and multiple people doing 100km/hr in the 8knot zone whilst your trying to get the boat in / out.

    /my 2 cents

  9. hey there fishraiders.....me and jnr will be trying our luck out on georges river.....any good tips on hot spots ? am launching the boat from river road boat ramp in the national park....cheers and have fun all of you !!

I was out on Wednesday with a mate, launched at Revesby also. River was actually sort of clean. I'd suggest you head to Lugarno.

During Wed, I trekked from Revesby to Como to Tom Ugly's to Captain Cook to baldface pt, drifting everywhere in between with the odd one here and there. Guess what, we picked up our best fish at Lugarno when we stopped on the way back to the ramp.. some nice whiting. Just goes to show you don't need to go to the end of the earth, we could have just sat and relaxed for the day!

RE: The carpark. Best not to leave anything in your car ever :)

I should hopefully be outside Sunday chasing anything that is capable of being hooked.

  10. From the 22nd to the 29th of Feb, I'll be taking a break up at Lake Macquarie. I'm staying around Fishing Point (pretty much directly opposite Swansea).

We wont be taking the boat up this time, so I'm asking for some advice land based. I have only been to Swansea before so the lake is a complete unknown.

I'm not asking for your Spot X (just Spot W and Spot Y. From these coordinates I should be able to track down X :)). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
