  1. G'day raiders,

Just back from a few days up at Nelson Bay, could've picked a better few days to be honest. Weather was a bit ordinary Sunday, Monday and only came good yesterday afternoon. Managed to sneak away yesterday afternoon to Shoal Bay for a quick flick but I think there must've been some little Tailor around; every plastic eventually came back without a tail! Never hooked a thing.

Got up this morning and headed down to the break wall for a few hours and managed a solid 30cm Bream on first cast then the wolds smallest Leatherjacket on the second cast then nothing for about an hour............then I really got a workout.

I was fishing 2 rods; one with a squid & prawn paternoster and one with unweighted prawn. All of a sudden the one with the paternoster rod doubled over. After I struck into it it felt like a dead weight and I thought it was a big sting ray then it woke up and took off, pealing 8kg line like crazy. Whatever it was went about 100m into the Marina then turned and headed about 100m in the other direction out into open water. It surfaced once and thrashed violently on the surface before heading round the break wall . As I stumbled to get off the rocks and onto the footpath to chase it I must've got snagged and the line snapped. I'm guessing it was a decent Kingy, when it broke the surface it looked to be at least 60cm and it gave me the runaround for a good 15mins.

After that...nothing, so I packed up headed back to accommodation.

If it was indeed a Kingy it was my first and I've now got the bug. I can't believe the awesome power and speed this thing had, it definitely caught me rather than me it.

    Cheers,

    Scotty.

  2. The Myall river is worth a look.

Some great lure fishing for bream, whiting and some cracker flatties. Monster Jewfish under the singing bridge at night.

The Breakwall often produces good kings, snapper, jews and bream over summer as previously said. I Never have a trip up there without checking it out.

Tomaree Head for all your yakkas, slimies and squid.

Some cracker whiting around jimmy's beach over summer!

    Good luck!

    Cheers, Tom

    Thanks Tom

  3. Hey Scott, how did you go? I got out today Friday.

Went up to karuha for a flick with no luck. Weather was pretty ordinary with the rain and wind constant. Headed back to the bay in my favorite spot and managed 3 nice bream at 30cm and a few soapies but missed the best part of the tide. Still ok considering conditions!

I'm not heading up there until tomorrow so I'll let you know, I'm hoping the weather turns, it's been a bit ordinary down in Sydney. Sounds like you had a reasonable day. I'll let you know how we go.......

  4. G'day raiders,

I've got the folks coming from overseas this week and we're heading up to Nelson Bay for 4 days. Me and the old man used to go fishing regularly and are hoping to do a bit when we're away. Does anyone know what's biting up there just now?

I was there in March and got a few Flatties flicking plastics from the beach but it would be good to know if there's anything else firing. When I was there with my brother 2 years ago there were heaps of rat Kings in and around the Marina at this time of year :1yikes: too lairy for the Bream gear!

    Any help or advise appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Scott

  5. G'day raiders,

I'm heading up to Yamba with the wife & kids next week and I'm looking for some advice on where to fish, what to target etc.

I'm only planning land based but I'm gonna try and take my young bloke for his first fish (he's only 3), so it would be nice to get him a catch.

Any suggestions or pointers would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Scotty.

  6. Hi all

My mate and I have been successfully fishing the Hawkesbury over the last two years and having a ball.

The time has come for us to try our luck with soft plastics..... tomorrow!

From what i have gathered from advise, forums and understanding i have the following setup:

    1 - 3kg 7" Daiwa spin matic

    Shimano sienna 2500

    6lb Fireline

    10lb patypus platnium leader

    1/16oz and 1/8oz jig heads

assorted 80mm wrigglers and 100mm shads

we will be targeting bream and flathead and would like to know the best places to start.

We normally launch from apple tree and cruise around cowan, juno and brooklyn.

Is there any region you would recommend for an SP newbie to start flicking?

Also any relevant advice would be very much appreciated.

    Might see you out tomorrow!

    cheers

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Try upstream towards Spencer, there's some nice sandflats & mangroves opposite Mt White caravan park.

    Cheers,

    Scott

  7. Gday fellas,

Heaps of carp in the Camden/Narellan/Campbelltown area. The council have been having fishing comps in all the local parkland lakes for carp and eel and I believe there have been some monsters pulled in.

I know for a fact there are heaps of carp and eel in:

    Harrington Park lake

    Mount Annan lake

    Nepean river at Camden

Never fished for them in Australia but caught a few in the UK.

  8. If you want to go for a walk, head down to the golf course, walk right around the rocks on your right hand side and throw out some livies. Theres good kingies there.

Also Minamurra should be going ok right now. Nippers work well there, hadnt had much luck on sp's there before

Thanks Pred, I'll give it a go.

  9. G'day folks,

I'm heading to Kiama Downs this weekend for more than a few beers and a spot of fishing. We have rented a property opposite Jones Beach and was just wondering if anyone has any tips, what to expect species wise, methods, baits etc for landbased/beach fishing around the area.

I'm planning to take a variety of gear from heavy surf to light SP (I've heard the river and Kiama harbour fishes well for flatties and bream)

Any pointers at all would be much appreciated.

    Cheers in advance,

    Scotty.
