  1. great work, i never knew the rocks there was that productive

then again, i only fish from wollongong and port kembla breakwalls

always wanted to try them.... are they any good?

what do you fish there with (setup, baits etc) and what do u catch ?

Bombo is alright, but be prepared for snags. High tide is the best time to go but be sure its not too rough or you will get wet :1prop:

  2. What a great way to dust off the gear, and also get a newby hooked. Sounds like you had a fantastic time.

Heres to a lot more reports from you and also Ross. (I hope he is now a member. lol)

    Cheers

    Mrs Flightmanager

Haha unfortunately this Ross is computer illiterate... but do pass on a cheery hello to "your" Ross from me!

    Ta :biggrin2:

  3. After a massive lay off due to work and other commitments i finally dusted off the gear and ventured out again.. oh what a feeling :yahoo:

i was again being guide to a newby to fishing, my mate Ross. We left a little later than planned but after a nice drive and a awesome maccas breakfast we arrived on the rock platform at 8am... He was christening a new rod which he had won in a raffle a few weeks ago... It was quite an interesting experience teaching and explaining the concept of the basic fishing skills most of us can do in our sleep! Anyways i rigged him up gave him a brief casting lesson and set him off, i then rigged up my light stick to chase some bream or trevally all the time while listening to him get excited and calling out happily " I FELT A BITE".. I tried to explain the concept of setting the hook when you felt you were on ( it was the only thing he never mastered)

he asked why his rod was much bulkier than mine and i was explaining that i was taking the risk by going for the smaller species and hoped that something bigger wouldnt hit me...sure enough on my 4lb light gear i get absolutely smashed by a nice salmon, after a short fight and a nice aerial leap i hear the dreaded PING and i am left to laugh at my luck... hoping for a repeat performance i beefed up my mainline with a 15lb leader but to no avail, the fish i guess were smarter than me.. We moved around the headland to another spot after continuously being stripped of our baits by annoying pickers... I'd never fished there before so i didnt know what to expect, 1st cast and within seconds i was on to a nice 27cm bream.. whilst i was in the process of setting him free i hear " I GOT ONE!" and Ross has a long tom flapping around on the rocks, both were released and then the snags came... I gave up and we headed to a spot C which was between A and B and within minutes we had some nice bites... I hooked another salmon on my mainline again and fared much better getting him all the way to the rocks but then lost him trying to pull him up to our platform... all i could do was laugh and bear it.. the rest of the session was pretty non eventful, plenty of bites and close calls but not much action... All in all though the weather was absolutely perfect and it set the tone nicely for the weekend, Ross caught the bug and wants to go again soon so we no doubt will have Round 2 in the near future.. And i was just stoked to be able to wet a line again after a lengthy lay off, hopefully i wont have to wait so long for the next trip ... Cheers all and tight lines :1fishing1:

  4. Hey guys, dusting off the gear and heading out to Bombo (near Kiama) tomorrow morning, aim to get there around 6:30am and will prob stay there till around lunch (depending on conditions)

If anyone is in the area or is keen to tag along i'll be more than happy to have a convoy..

Its off a very safe rock platform, conditions are predicted to be very sweet indeed and i will be targetting salmon, bream, trevally and whatever else is around!

    PM me for more info

    cheers,

    Ian

  5. Hey Guys,

Been a while since i last logged on, busy trying to save the world and all :1prop:

I have a free week next week in which i'd like to have a crack at breaking my KING virginity.

By the sounds of it the harbour is the place to be..

So if anyone is going out on a boat and has a spare seat and would like to help my cause i in turn will be willing to offer $$ for fuel as well as friendly company and tasty food and drinks..

I can get to anywhere in sydney at any time.. would be most greatful

Dont have a great range of gear but have basic necessities

    Cheers. Ian

  6. m8 anywhere along budgewoi beach is good one of the best beaches to fish from just find a gutter or a nice looking hole and fish it an hour either side of the high tide. best baits are stripe tuna, pilched and worms. for whiting just use a small ball sinker running to a swivel and about a 10lb trace tied to that with about a size 1 long shank hook. if you are after salmon or tailor use a star sinker to a swivel with about 30lb of trace and a set of 3/0 or 4/0 gang hooks. as far as rock fishing goes anywhere around pelican point which is near Norah head light house is good. and as far as budgewoi lake is concerned if you head near budgewoi circle and fish under the road bridge there you get flatties, bream. best rig is just a small ball sinker running to a swivel to a trace of about 6lb and a size 3 baitholder hook. best bait is prawns. if you would like anymore help or would like me 2 give you more info pm me

    i hope this helps

    boutime

Mate you're too good to be true, that info is more than helpful. Thanks heaps for your help on that, much appreciated!

  7. Gday Folks, i've been out of action for a long time now for differing reasons but finally have 2 days up my sleeve.... going camping at Norah Head and want to take the fishing gear because it haunts me in the small hours of the night... Is there any good beach/rock fishing options in the general area ? I mainly target bream, trevally, tailor and salmon but wouldnt knock back some nice whiting or flathead if i can get it....

If anyone has some good knowledge on rigs, baits and spots etc i would be most gracious :1prop:

Also prepared to try the lake at Budgewoi if conditons are not suitable....

    Thanks guys,

    Ian

  8. Just got home from my end of season soccer trip away with the boys..... we were at copacabana on the central coast near Avoca, arrived on thursday looking something a bit like this :1badmood: due to the poor weather and impending weekend spoilt by it,but wake up friday and what do u know its clered up nicely... as young guys do we drank  all day and night singing and carrying on....enjoying the beach and a bit more  ...

Having been busy for a very long time the fishing bug got the better of me, so before i left i had hastily packed the rod and a few necessitys just in case... come sat arvo i sussed out the rocky headland doing all the right things like watching prospective platforms from elevated ground for 10 mins etc... eventually settled on 2 spots which were safe..... so i raced back to our house and sobered up completely before going on a sharp 3 hour session in the late arvo/dusk..... when i returned our neighbour was there and i felt much better having someone to talk to and fish safely with.... unfortunately i wasnt well prepared with my tackle as the current wouldnt help me out so my nice new friend lent me a float and we were able to fish away from it by going long and deep... karma kicked in about a minute later when his rod is bending and he is smiling from ear to ear :biggrin2: he brought in a solid trev , next cast i brought in his mate and what a ball i had on my light gear... took a quick photo as evidence for my doubtful teammates and then really got stuck into the fishing, we must of released at least 6 trevs each whilst keeping only the first 2 caught, needless to say my photo wasnt necessary as unexpectedly some of the team decided to come have a stickybeak , almost as expected the trevs went off the bite and the guys got bored and went walking further along the headland... when they returned about 45 mins later our fortunes changed once more when a school of sambo's came through and we entertained the boys who had a great laugh watching me struggle on my light bream stick (unfortunately the boys were not willing to do any camera work :ranting2: ) .....we called it a day and the neighbour came over and we cooked our fish on the bbq and had a few beers ..... top feed and top bloke.

The next afternoon i went again for the same thing, unfortunately the wind had picked up and the water was very rough .... i was greeted by 2 south african tourists and there 2 very attractive travel companions who were watching them fish ( they looked rather bored :1prop: ) .... well the fishing was hard and i lucked out , the other guys were consistently catching marine creatures of all kinds due to their heavier gear and i was the unfortunate and luckless guide , they caught 4 trevs, a few eels, some rock garbage and a tailor ...to my big fat bag of NIX...... it was fun to watch their excitement though and their company was good. I bade them farewell as it was too cold and windy for me and im walking back along the rocks quietly loving life to have got a chance to fish when all of a sudden a massive plank of wood and a couple of largish rocks crashed without lie a foot or 2 beside me , they had fallen off the cliff face and i remembered seeing a sign earlier about falling rocks..... Well i can honestly say i absolutely SHAT myself and the 15 min walk back to the beach only took me about 5 ... i could not believe my near miss and still shudder to think they may of been intentionally dumped from a person above ( not aiming for me, just dumping in general)

Im using this experience to warn other raiders about this danger and i hope all the rockhoppers excersise great caution whilst out there....

attached is the pic of the 2 trevs which i thought were quite big and fat...

    Cheers,

    Ian

  9. thanks for the advice guys...

i'll be with hungover novice fisherman......maybe a better idea to stick to beaches :1prop:

anyone know how the beach scene is going up that way?

wouldnt mind getting stuck into some flatties, whiting, bream and tailor/salmon

  10. Hey guys !

been busy with sport, uni and work so havent had a chance to wet a line.

This weekend im heading away with the soccer boys for our end of season trip to Copacobana on the Central Coast......

im thinking of a trip to Avoca's famous rock ledges.......or anywhere else local thats good...

was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for where to go, baits to use, etc....

any help would be greatly appreciated

    cheers!

    Ian

  11. back at uni next week so i decided to try my luck on the low tide and the incoming high tide/dusk

it was an agonisingly slow day with nothing but this pink/red fella who went mighty hard, have no idea what it was so it went back to live another day... also noticed in my pillie block what looked to be a yellow tail or something this thing was massive compared to the WA pillies.... very strange!

ah well it was a top day weather wise anyway!

  12. Hey Raiders,

does anyone know of any good rock fishing spots around Sydney?

I usually travel (from sydney) to kiama and JB for my rock fix but am keen on fishing in my "own backyard". I only fish light targetting salmon, tailor, bream, trevally and drummer .

And also my number 1 point is obviously a safe place, i dont mind (sometimes prefer) a higher ledge to avoid getting wet feet :1prop: ( I also highly regard a place that is easily accessible ie no ropes or 3hr walks from car!)

We'll say a radius between Avalon to the north and Stanwell Pk to the south

    any pictures would be fabulous

    thanks for your help guys

    Cheers,

    Ian :1fishing1:

PS i have never tried off the beach so i would be willing to learn, so throw in some good beaches if u know some, THANKS!

  13. Hi Dan

I live 70kms away from Port, I shop there but have not yet fished there. Have a 12' tinny and not yet put it in the river either. Wow, I'm a shocker eh! I must get my act together.

Which breakwall are you on, northside or southside?

I spent a fortnight at Camden Head recently and lots of time fishing on Washouse Beach. While there I noticed a fella fishing from the rocks near the point, maybe it was KINGvirgin.

Might catch up with you sometime up that way. :biggrin2:

    Jill

If your referring to the hunk of a spunk who fishes shirtless and has bulging muscles..........

    that wasnt me :1prop:

I go to the north wall which requires a trip on the punt across the river, ahhhh good times....

Thanks, might go for a walk and check it out, do you access it from the beach there?

no the access track is in a street but im not familiar with names sorry, the entrance is about 5min from the dunbogan boastshed, the street in question connects to another street in a " L " fashion and its at the the point of the L. great idea to walk it out and suss it out first, im not sure how it goes in winter but in summer the action can get hot.

  14. Hi Raiders

there has been post on plumpton park before

I would like to go as well But it is back to work tomorow

Kingvirgin can you please keep some for berley please thanks

    cheers robert :1fishing1::1fishing1::thumbup::thumbup:

    consider it done robert :biggrin2:

  15. Anything about this size should do the trick nicely... :1prop:

    post-3284-1182499040_thumb.jpg

Ok, just kiddin' but you need something like that when you get 'em landed. Quick & humane, even if they are rubbish fish they still deserve to be knocked on the head rather than just left there to die slowly like some I've seen.

We have caught a few on hooks ranging from 2 to 4 without a great deal of hit & miss probs.

    :Funny-Post:

    Awesome thanks guys!

  16. Thanks All,

    KINGvirgin

I have heard that Point Perpendicualr is a good spot to fish, but it wasnt all that accessible?

    Royboy

The gars stay on much better than the pillies, can get multiple casts out of them with the thing ripping apart, the flesh is much firmer.

    Marlin_dc

Hi Marlin, yeah, we should catch up for a fish for sure, let me know when you have some spare time and we will hook up, either from Kayak or wall, or wherever.

BTW, I think I saw you the other day in the torrential rain on Lake Road looking at some potholes that the construction was causing?

    Gohardorgohome

Not unweighted, 30lb line with a bean sinker and 30cm trace

Point Perp is a great spot, it requires a walk on a bush track for about 15mins and then an easy descent down onto the rocks, it is quite high off the water in parts and well protected from the swell. I snared my PB bream there and have lost a few kings.....

  17. Hey guys , im not working tomorrow morning so i am going to take my neighbour out for a fish to target some CRAP...oops i mean Carp.. :1prop:

would be willing to meet up if anyone is heading out to Plumpton Park, Lake Werrington or Nepean River...

if not i'll end up at plumpton park.....

also can anyone give me a visual on the hook size i should be using to catch these pests..... the last time i went out i dropped far too many!

    thanks

    Ian

  18. Well done davy!

i have fished the Port Mac breakwall many a time and never come home empty handed, its a fantastic spot!

i have caught tailor, salmon, some thumping bream, flatties, i even caught my one and only jewie there ( only a schooly of 50 odd cm), have been busted off once or twice by kingies too.

we usually fish the top left corner as u are driving onto it, have only experimented there with pillies and nippers ( and metals), so its good to see some new bait doing some damage. the whole area up there is brilliant and i dont get up there enough, you should try point perpendicular near dunbogan its given me a couple of good sessions too! ( and a bit closer to u)

good work and enjoy ur feast!

    Ian
