  1. Untill recently i have discovered that there are muddies in the hawkesbury. i only thought there were blue swimmers. Can someone lead me in the direction as to where abouts? the only place i can think of is further upstream near wisemans and spencer. would i be correct with this theory?

Can someone also tell me traps per person.

i know its 1 trap per person. but say if three people were on the boat would that mean you can set 3 traps, or is it just 1 trap per boat?

    thank you

  2. Well done on the fish of a lifetime mate.

Still trying to get my first decent Jew.

Just a quick question. Where abouts do you get the mud crabs in the hawkesbury? My old man wants a feed of crabs but I thought there were only blue swimmers.

And is it one trap per boat or one trap per person on the boat for the muddies?

  3. just keep it.

I have a 7144 with a 6.5inch alvery. Great for pigs. just get replacement guides if need be.

It's a heavey outfit... so you might have to hit the gym.

Ahaha thanks for the heads up.

  4. Hey raiders I have just discovered my dads old beach outfit. Alvey reel and rod. I have spooled the alvey with 20lb mono I need help with the rod though

    It's a silstar power tip pt-1202BWA 7144

    Is this rod any good?

I was looking at a Wilson fibreglass rod but not sure if I should just keep this one. Pretty ancient but a bit of cleaning and I'm sure she is a beauty

    Thanks raiders

  5. it started off with a phone call to my mate seeing if he wanted to go landbased this morning to see if we could get into some whiting.

plans changed and he decided to take the boat out. so the misses and i and guy (aka kelza) hit drummoyne area today.

he picked us about about 5:30 plans were to be on water by first light and we werent to far from it :)

armed with nippers and worms, (nippers being the best bait by far

first stop was an area not to far from the boat ramp. i dont want to say whereabouts as im not sure if he does mind if i give away some spots. but if you pm me i should be able to give you a few spots where we got lucky today.

so spot 1. kelza chucked in the first bait and within 30 second he was on. pulled up and was a nice chopper tailor. went 33cm and back in the drink all agreeing that it will bring us good karma for the rest of the day and it did!

with the misses out fishing me last two fishing outings i had to beat her today :P

within the next hour misses caught a squire, kelza had pulled up a bream, whiting, and squire all being undersize so all of these went back in. Decided to move and noticed that salmon were busting up not to far from us. there were already about 4 other boats there. nothin that we threw or the other boats threw at them had hooked up. must of been feeding on somethin small. stayed there for a bit with my misses pulling up a starfish which kept her interested.

moved to spot number 2 for about 2 or 3 hours, all undersize fish but just about when we were goin to move i hook up to a nice flatty, goin 39cm

we then went back to the ramp as we decided to go get more nippers.

we then returned to spot 1 and again within minutes kelza is hooked up,

putting up a nice fight and up came a FAT trevally going 46 or 47cm, ive never seen one or seen someone fight them, with light gear they look like awesome fun. i think i got more excited than him. as well as my misses jumping up from her sleep to see what it was.

stayed there for an hour or so for more squire.

then moved to spot 3. we decided to drift for the rest of the day and pulled up more whiting and squire. then i hook onto another nice flatty measuring 42cm

by then it was about 3:30 and we were red as a lobster. best day to be on the water. overall 15+ fish were caught which kept us entertained. 4 keepers. but just keeping the trevally and two flatties.

just like to say thanks so much kelza for an awesome day. myself and my misses enjoyed every minutepost-18612-042348200 1318752467_thumb.jpg

  6. hey mate i can fully agree with fishing the nepean river. its like a gold mine for bass. look for the heavily weeded areas and any trees in the water. u will get plenty of snags but plenty of fish too. i caught 2 bass 35 cm plus just 2 nights ago. i was down below the weir where the river narrows. great fishing all along it though.

hey where abouts is the weir? ive tried lookin for it but cant find it !

  7. Not much I can add but simplify your rig stopper rubber or knot, bead, float, some of the insualtion from inside a power cord about 1 inch long (the really thin stuff you strip it off with a knife) this acts as a shock asorber and you dont damabe the stem of the float on the ground, barrel sinker to suit, swivel, 20cms main line (to add split shot to to fine the floats ballast and get near nuetral bouyancy), swivel then 18 inch 6lb fluro trace and size 8 hook!

To test for depth get a no1 ball sinker and tie some line through it hook it to your hook and set what you think is the correct depth throw in and the float will sink and hit the stopper under water! the float should be approx two feet under the surface you have the approx correct fishing depth adjust accordingly as the tide falls or makes

Spots depend on tides and whe nthey will bite! Don't let folks tell you otherwise! Occasionally they will defy the rules and bite the exact opposite tide they should

Send me a PM of where your fishing I probably know the spot and can give you further info on the tide to fish and depth also you can find Scrubby and myself in the harbour most Sundays so if you want to tag along let me know but you will be sworn to a code of silence!

    PM sent :)

  8. hey raiders, tried twice for black fish in estuarys and both without luck ! im new to this so just want to ask a few questions

i think im doin everythin correct. I got a stopper then a float then a swivel. then 1 metre trace with size 8 green hook !

also weighted with 00 and size 1 stoppers to get the float down till about 1 inch of the top red section is only showing !

i have found the stringy type of weed ! is this suitable?

i put a loop for the hook and put the weed through the loop and wrap it around the hook different ways for each side. is this correct?

and also how deep do you think the weed should be in estuaries?

i seen a guy today with about 30-40 cm trace and the stopper wasnt that far up ! should i be at this depth as well?

roughly what depth should i be fishing at?

also how often should i be burleying and how much? i dont know if im burleyin to much or to little

    thanks

  9. hey raiders.

in summer when the water warms up a bit ! i want to do some kingie fishing but im restricted to land based ! are there any well known spots that you's wouldnt mind me having ! doesnt matter where ! im willing to travel!

    thanks raiders

  10. Well done kelza. When you messaged me I couldn't believe it haha.

All the hard work finally paid off for you bro.. now you have to crack the metre mark :P

Oh yeh you better get me on to my first jewie now. :) lol

    Once again well done brother

  11. Try small shrimp imitiation lures. Or just burley up and bread and see if you can temp any rises. You will have to fight off the ducks and geese

    thanks for the tip!!

hopefully they dont annoy me on the day
