  1. It's been a long time since I've posted on here but it's been a long time since I've been able to go for a flick.

Heading up to Mungo Brush this weekend with the boys from work for our annual camping, don't exactly where we are camping but the boys recon the beach is on one side and it's not far to the lake on the other side.

I know we will be hitting the beech a bit this weekend I've actually managed to book a Pajero to review for the week so we are going to try it out on the sand alot.

I'm not going up til friday because of work but I plan on getting up there around high tide Friday morning, since the boys will be on the cans Thursday night I'm not expecting them up early on Friday so I thought I might stop off for a flick on the way.

I've heard there might be some good spots to catch some squid around Tea Gardens but I'm not exatly sure where to go just wondering if anyone has ideas.

Would be nice to get a few to throw on the barbie but also would be nice to catch some fresh bait as well.

I'll post a report next week when I get back hopefully might actually catch some fish.

    cheers,

    Wayno

  2. Will try some Pillys, I haven't caught a flattie in that long I've forgotten what they look like.

Just getting frustrated I take my girls fishing and we never catch anything just finally want to bring a feed home the fish shop around the corner is expensive

  3. I have my nephew stopping with me at the moment and fridays my day off so I thought I'd take him for a fish now since I haven't caught anything the last 6 times I've been fishing so I'm stumped at where to go. My nephew comes from Smiths Lakes and use to catching fishing just about everytime he goes, and a mate at work said he seems to catch fish everytime he goes over near the airport just wondering if anybody has any tips, and whether its a good land based spot.

Apart from wanting my nephew to catch something I'm sick of going home empty handed, I'm starting to doubt whether I'm cut out for fishing since I can never seem to catch anything.

  4. ended up only fishing for about 30min the sat night the surf was nasty as, i had to go early sunday but my mates stayed til sunday arvo but caught nothing.

thinking of taking my girls for a couple of hours over near the airport this friday night. also keen to find a good spot to take the kids squiding my youngest keeps bugging me about catching some squid.

  5. There some really good gutters around "the hole in the wall" and you can get 4wd access not far from there. The long tail tuna are on the run, so if you can get a livey out there your a chance. If your looking to head to tea/hawks, Jimmy's beach is good for flathead, bream, whiting so is corrie creek on the slack tides especially around the short cut. Under the bridges there your a chance of Jew as well. Good luck!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

Thanks for tips mate last itme we fished up there about 12 months ago we got some nice fish around hole in the wall. will try jimmys again last time all we caught was a couple of small shovel noses

  6. Hey wayno,

Not really any squid spots in that area. Maybe close to yaccaba headland you might be a chance. Are you camping at mungo?? Plenty of mullet in there that is great for all round bait. Especially of the beaches up there for Jews!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

Yep camping at a spot called Banksia Green, got a 4wd ute to review so plan on using it a bit this weekend as well should be fun.

Hopefully I'll catch something this time last 4 times I've been for a fish I've come home empty handed.

  7. I'm going camping just up from tea gardens this weekend and we have some spots on the beach we usually go to that we seem to catch fish at but just wondering if there are any land based squid spots in the area that we can try when we are not at the beach.

    cheers,

  8. A whole bunch of us boys a hitting The Entrance next week for our annual fishing trip just wondering if anyone knows what the fishings been like up there lately and a few spots we can try the guys are keen to fish the beech but i don't care I just want to take home a feed for the family plus we are having a little wager on who gets the most fish, biggest fish, weirdest fish.. Also are there any places you can go squiding up there been hanging to try some new jigs I got.

Sorry for all the questions but I havent fished The Entrance for 30 years.

    Cheers,

  9. We are heading to Soldiers point for a week monday and the mrs talked me into buying some Gulp to use, big question i have is how to I rig it?

Do I just use it like I would regular bait on a normal hook or do I rig it with a jig head and use it as a lure.

I never fished with any type of lure or soft plastic so i am a bit confused by it all.

    sorry for the noob question,

    Cheers,

    WAyno

  10. Land based fishing isnt easy. What are you targetting. Is the tide right. Is the barometric pressure right. Is it to rough to reach your target species. Are you using burley. All must be taken into account not to mention seasonal fisg.

targeting anything anything mostly bream and flatheads, used plenty of berly fished from 2 hrs before high tide til about 3hrs after it.

Who knows what we did wrong hopefully palm beech in a few weeks will get us some results.

  11. Quite a few of us from work decided to head down to kunrell for a night fish, weather was pity the fishing wasn't either we are just hopeless, picked the wrong places I honestly don't know. The only ones to get a bite all night were the mozzies which were out in force.

We tried all different sorts of bait from chicken, pillies, prawns, mullet strips nothing seemed to work.

Kinda sick of going fishing and not bringing home anything next trip will be palm beech in a few weeks at night.

  12. 2nd boys fishing trip of the year this friday we are going to Bonna Point reserve in Kurnell this time hoping to change our luck.

We basically picked Kurnell because there over 10 of us coming and we can spread out a bit there plus I'm told there's good pizza place not far away. Anybody know if we could light a fire there we are going over night and if we can light one we have half a metal barrel to light it in so we wont be leaving anything behind the next morning when we go.

Could somebody give us an idea of what we might catch, not really sure what to get for bait 1 of the guys wants to bring a bait amd try for some livies but I'm sure whether it would work.

  13. It's an estuary catfish, have caught one in the harbour before and threw it back only to find out they are excellent eating. Nice catch :)

we didnt know what it was so we tossed it back :mad3:

  14. Last monday a few of us from work ended up at Rose Bay wharf a bit windy, caught a couple of baby bream and thats a about it rather unproductive night, some guys were pulling their boat out and asked if we wanted some nippers.

So we fished for a couple of hours just using nippers got plenty of decent bites but we couldn't catch anything.

My mate did catch some ugly fish none of us knew what it was so I've put a pic of it in the aquarium thread www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=67737.

    Cheers,

    Wayno
