  1. It is interesting to note that you have mentioned Quantum swoffa. Some of their top of the range spinning reels have a pretty good following and are mentioned heaps. What stories have you heard regarding quantum gear?

  2. That's a beauty mate, congrats Tony !

Did you get that fish off the flats or from casting to the bank?

Here is a pic of my mate's 54cm PB bass which was also caught from Somerset on a vt65. I was going to get Akke to pass you the pic but thought i would post it instead :D

    Regards

  3. If the Caldia KIX is as smooth and as nice to use as the certate, then why is it nearly half the price of a Certate? Call me cynical but I don't think in the present time (or times past) you can get something for nothing...

Read about this from tackle tour: the kix is made in thailand and has a plastic rotor and side cover or something along those lines. Your are deadset correct. Check it out before you buy one..... but those guys on the TT forum know their stuff so i dont think they were telling a lie by any means.

  4. Mate,

Thanks a heap for the insight. greatly appreciated.

And yes, i will definately readup and ask for help regarding venting fish and making sure they are released with a 100% chance of survival.

Did anyone in the top 5 or 10 so ppl not fish the deeper stuff and fish some other way ?

    Regards

  5. Great report guys and what a buzz it would have been to fish with the winning boater Jay.

Re: Deep water jigging for bass

How about some tips for the average joe to apply to his local impoundment.... I am particularly interested in lure choice and colour. Why did that ecogear redish paddle tail catch fish as opposed to the other plastics?

And what "jigging" techniques were used to target the fish holding at specific depts? Was it a matter of locating them on the sounder and constantly jigging the plastic at that dept in their faces?

Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

  6. Hey ken,

Just broke my tarpon duck a week or too ago and you are correct, they are one damn hard fish to hook. Then comes the landing the fish part as they leap out of the water! Tarpon are suuuch great sport on light line! A lake 200m from where you live would be sick!

Try a muscadine good old bream sized slider mate for something different if they are holding a tad deeper.

  7. RE: Sounder interferance

When using a sounder powered by the leccy's deep cycle battery i get MAJOR interferance problems ... as in everytime i steer with the leccy (with speed) the sounder cuts out? Does this happen to anyone else?

I am assuming that the use of the leccy in bursts to steer requires a surge of extra battery juice thus disrupting the batteries output temporarily which causes the sounder to cut out?

The battery i run is a brand new trojan 130amp with duel terminals, the sounder works fine when on a dedicated battery ...

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  8. I have an inspira 30 and IMO stay away. for the money a similiar priced shimano is a far better reel. I am very dissapointed and expected alot better. Thank goodness i got it overseas, they are such an overpriced reel! Would rather fish with a symetre anyday. The drag increments arn't senseitve and when opened up, the componentry is cheap. Each to their own but that is what i think. Hope that helps.
