  1. I've just bought a couple of new outfits to get into soft plastics for snapper and each reel will hold around 220-250 meters of braid. I have a spool of 300 yards of 15lb and intend to spool the other with 20lb. Now when you have 50 or so yards of leftover mono from spooling up it can be used for trace material but what do you with 50 meters of leftover braid, it's to short to use but too much to throw away.

    i think you will find if you use 100 meters of mono backing to your reel you can put on 150mt of braid on top and have a spare 150mt of braid in your kit for when it wears thin....

    thats what i do anyhow

    oink oink :biggrin2:

  2. take care with the subaru they have a dual mass flywheel and are pull type clutch {expencive as hell to replace}

    the conversion to a solid flywheel and clutch will run you around 1k {with labour}

    just a little heads up and saying that you can fry there clutch just as quick as anyother on a slipery ramp

  3. Hello fellow raiders,

    Most of my fishing has been done on rivers in the USA where I went to university. I would really like to get into fishing local estuaries (Port Hacking & Botany Bay) and also some deep sea. I am pretty much a novice in salt water and want to really improve so I can help my son who has caught the fishing bug (must be in the blood). Any help would be much appreciated.

    Your name: Johno (my nickname)

    Your Location: Sutherland Shire (Port Hacking & Botany Bay). Will travel to fish!

    Fishing technique: Kingfish, Jew Fish, Snapper, Whiting, Bream, Blackfish, Flathead. I want to learn as much as possible.

    Availability: Monday, Wednesday (mornings), Saturday, Sunday

    Preferred location: Port Hacking, Botany Bay, & local FAD's

    Provide your own gear? Have small stuff for estuary but would like to get a nice rig for kingy's etc

    Provide your own boat? Yes - Brooker 410 fisherman (Tinny)

    I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind Regards,

    Johnno

    when are you free mate ?

  4. Howdy Raiders

    sunday morning hit off at 6 from the whalf with the new key west for the very first time took her for her maiden voyage

    Started out with a run down the middle of the bay and figured that at 70kph you cant wear a hat after we plucked my hat out of the water we headed to the can's to see if any rats where home but no luck. then we wandered over to the flathead ground's and pulled up a good feed of flatheads using the good old nuclar chicken's. Then decided to look for a bit of top water action , on finding a bunch of seagulls making eradic movments along the front of brighton beach there was schools of bonnie's tailor salmon trevs and some hoodlom kings smashing a big school of whitebait

    as soon as we pull up next to the school the white bait try to hide under the boat and the action is on

    with super ligth bream rods we where in trouble soon enough

    and when we figured that the bigger lure would get smakked by the bigger kings we popped around 60.00 worth of lures on them the little bream rods would just not hold them

    any how we got a great feed and spent the afternoon cleaning the boat and then the fish

    bonnie fish cocktails and flathead fillets on the bbq

    and its all most the weekend again

    Tight lines

  5. I know this isn't quite the same but When me and my best mate go Trout fishing, generally one of us is always in the dumps- even if it is firing! We call it the 'Bad JuJu'.

    Classic example was we were up at a place in the New England area fishing a new stretch of river. Being nice I gave him the first cast and he got a few follow ups and finally a fish. The Juju decided it was my turn. As we walked up the next kilometer of river, my reel started to grind suggesting the bearings were gone(and we were an hour or two walk away from the car). But I decided to fish on and all the time he is pulling up fish after fish. I would go to a new stretch and cast and would have massive fish have a go at my rod but never take it. :ranting2: lines getting tangled etc etc.

    Finally, an hour and much swearing later, we got to a nice open pond and I finally hooked one. The Juju went onto him and I was now the one catching everything. Not only that, my reel started working perfectly again as if nothing had happened. It led to a few minutes later my mate casting at a spot and then me following up in the same area a second later and catching the biggest fish of the trip, a 50cm+ browny... :yahoo:

    So our superstition is if someone is on the juju and then they catch a fish, you know things are going to go bad for you for a while and you are not going to catch any fish until it decides the other person has enough! It happens every time we go trout fishing without fail.... DAMN YOU JUJU!!!

    HEHE I Hear ya there mate !

  6. Howdy raiders i was a deck hand on WRIGHT1 for years and john the skipper would never allow bannan's on board

    now i fish with a guy a lot that puts his suntan lotion on with surgical rubber gloves so the scent dont get on the plastics ,

    i have also fished with a girl that spat on her bait once when asked i was told "thats how dad tought me" :thumbup:

    mine is that i never thru my ciggerate butts in the water and allways come home with them screwed up in my pocket much to my wifes discust {that goes for any rubbish but just the butts go in my pocket} i would like to know and hear about other fisho's do and donts when it comes to superstitions out there

    Tip's up .....
