I hit Botany bay this morning with my friend Greg co-owner, of the game boat Reel Magic. I introduced Greg to soft plastics a few years ago and he has taken to it like a duck to water. After a fruitless hour in deeper water we moved into some shallower stuff about an hour and a half before high tide. Things were slow and we only had three low 40's lizards and a couple of small bream in the live well by around 10.30. Then this old girl decided that she liked the look of the Gulp Crazylegs softy that I obviously dragged past her nose in 1.2 metres of water.
She took it right at the boat, pulled off 10 or so metres of line and proceeded to swim almost around the boat, all the way back again and all the way back again. All this in plain view of two quite excited fishermen. Eventually she was coaxed in close and Greg did the honours with the net. She measured 92 cm and was in very good condition with a big fat belly. After some back-slapping and happy snaps she went back in to disgorge the contents of that belly when the time is right and so continue the cycle of life in Botany Bay.
We then moved on to another area of shallow water where the tide was spilling off some flats and in the next 40 or so minutes landed six more lizards in the mid 40cm to mid 50cm range. So what began as a slowish morning turned into one to savour.
Just love those bay lizards!!
Tight lines everyone.
