    What a haul. Great work.

    What bait were you using?

    Cheers

    Rah

I was using a mix of baits squid and pilchards. They were that thick they were even taking plastics and micro jigs

  2. Decided to go for a bottom bash over the weekend departed from botany and hit the 60m mark. First baits down nice pan sized snapper and few other good reef species.

Continued drifting eventually flathead were benign hauled in, some instances 2 at a time. Managed to bag out by 11am left fish biting and back home by 12pm.

(Note: fish was caught between 3 people)

  3. hi guys i currently own a bar crusher 670HT and would like to chase some reef species. just curious how do i go about anchoring in reefs in deep water. the current anchor attached to the boat is a roll bar plough and was curious if i could use this in the reefs?

so could i use this anchor over the reefs?

is there any special techniques i need to know when anchoring in 30m -60m of water?

any help will be appreciated guys?

  4. yeah I believe I have that record for now haha

haha mine is just a baby

If that was as cranky as the little ones are then your boat must be a solid coat of black now

    it was an ink bucket

Nice one, have found 3.0 jigs have been working for me in the recent weeks, pinks and oranges have been the go.

Within 10 mins of Tonkin Park ramp

    Cheers

    Choicebro

same here mate green has done well for me!

heaps of them around at the moment! that means its nearly Snapper time!!!!

Tenticle or strip make a great kingy or snapper bait!

i cant wait! hopefully the jackets leaved me alone!

  5. Geez that's a decent cuttlefish Bezz. Well done...as you say bait sorted for a while. Cheers Neil.

Holy cuttle ....Wow.... I also squid same spot ... Good work mate love my squid...On a jig I assume?

    That is a monster!

Is there are Raider Record for this?

    That's absolutely insane!!

    thanks guys!

  6. Decided to try something different today planned on targeting some squid off to my favorite grounds within 10 minutes 5 green eye were landed nothing big

Suddenly everything died out after a solid hour of casting my jig not a single hit but suddenly got smoked intilially thought king but wasn't fighting like one and had heaps of weight to it started coming up eventually and to my surprise I landed this monster cuttle fish

Which has sorted bait for the next few trips!!

  7. Decided to target some snapper with great conditions outside so first stop bait next stop out to my favorite reef!

Got to my reef day started slow as there was so little current decided to slow jig. It paid off within 5 minutes I was on a fish

Within next 1 hr only managed four snapper which was great

Decided to use some baits now and I managed a 2 bonitos great fun from 80m of water.

Again another hit this felt different was pulling drag a lot of drag. I got excited thought it was big snapper, but it was a trag fought pretty hard!

Headed back to the ramp by 2pm as the fishing was very slow by this time. Overall great day ?

  8. thought it was you!

yeah, unfortunately i dont get out as much as i have a little 5 month old boy but i used to be out every weekend (as long as conditions were good).

Dont know if you were around last season when this happened but i managed to hook a whale from that spot! (accidentally of course... spooled me!)

Good to see the fish are out there!

I'm sure you will get the chance again I love fishing the hacking!

Those whales are scary especially when close to you're boat

  9. Great catch! Would love to get a few of those in the pan or deep fryer.

    Thanks mate!

Make great catches!! Do I mind me asking where about did you fish for the squid? And how far out the hacking were u? We are new and fished inside the bay usually, never been out yet. Look forwards to ur advice

I usually catch most of my squid near that big White House I usually sit at jibbion bomie best tip I have for squid find the bait and there not too far

    Nice work there bez!

you look familiar though.. i also fish from the hacking.

    Here comes a long shot....

Correct me if im wrong but, did you have a pesky seal following you and your mate around last season? (i was the bloke in the other boat with the wife)???

Yes that's me! I'm the person you are thinking off I see you quite often :)

  10. Hey raiders!
Once again planned on going for a fish with my mate!
We headed out from port hacking and plan was to gather live bait and go from there
So yakas and squid in the tank
With conditions looking great decided to punch out got to my spot and started fishing. Within minutes after pumping some burley out I had a hit a nice 35cm snapper then my mate a 37cm snapper
Then my mate had a run thought it was a snapper probably the biggest his ever had after running hard with big head shakes it was a kingfish 70cm then snapper had seem to disappear but the Kings were thick taking baits off the bottom!

Eventually action died out and and only was catching banjo Rays And eels

Top day all Kings went low 70cm smallest was 65

    Overall top day! post-21569-0-86939700-1459408129_thumb.jpegpost-21569-0-06982000-1459408147_thumb.jpeg

  11. Hi raiders!

decided to hit up my favorite reef with my 2 of my mates started off slow but once I started clubbing up it paid off heaps of rat kings great fun on light gear but heaps of travely and the odd Watson bonito also

All was caught on pilchards unfortunately no snapper ?

But reefs have been producing well for me

21 fish between the 3 of us at then end ?post-21569-0-77792500-1459061782_thumb.jpeg

  12. I agree. Bleed instantly. Cut under the throat and back over the side of the boat and hold tight. Followed by a 15 minute wrestle on already stretched arms. I now carry some jumbo zip ties to help tail wrap the Things. I prefer this method over taking the head and tail off while alive or it ends looking like a scene from Carrie.

I also find cuttings fins off work really well to get rid of ammonia!

  13. Great catch mate :clapping:

Nice gummy. Any idea where the best spots to chase these land-based would be?

    nice catch mate

Well done that's a decent Gummy!

I caught a few about a month back and some fellow raiders gave me an awesome tip of freezing pieces for about a month to improve the taste.

This worked a treat, the piece I had the other night was so good that I'll be chasing them again on my next trip!

    Cheers, James.

Nice job Bezz. Did you get a measure?

Thanks guys it went about 1.2m

And best advise I have for eating is to bleed and gut straight then straight into ice few days in the freezer then enjoy!

And for targeting I usually do well on reef so if land based would recommend off rocks in thick reef or near reef as I found these places most productive!

  14. Hi raiders!

Decided to hit my favorite reef recently and it started off slow then decided to send a big flesh bait out this way the pickers would take some time to demolish

Well it paid off! Rod went ballistic at first I was thinking snapper probably my biggest by far but soon as it can to the boat I noticed it was a shark! A gummy shark

    Good fun!post-21569-0-28117900-1458603822_thumb.jpeg

  15. Mate I'm usually just sussing them out but best tip I have for you is fish reefs just as the sun comes up or on an overcast day for some reason my best snapper come out in these sort of conditions

Also lite leaders nothing too heavy!

  16. Decided to go for a reef session off Botany Bay recently and it paid off managed good feed of snapper and other reef species was fishing a patanoster rig in 80m of water using whole pilchards biggest snapper went 60 rest were in high 40s

Had a live bait it got smoked and could not stop what ever was on the end got Reefed with 80pound leader!!
