  1. was hoping for some salmón but these guys kept smashing the fresh beach worms and frozen pilles.

in between casas I decide to catch works. made the trip more fun.

I must have caught 15 flattys in 2 hrs. decided 3 would be enough for dinner.

got busted up a few times by what I believe must have been Taylor as the line came back with no right, just a clean cut.

  2. I used to live in Woonona but now live in Balgownie just down the rd.

If you can go to the rocks in front of the boat shed at Sandon point there are dozens of good spots. I have caught Salmon, pigs, luderick and bream.

I have gotten into beach worming recently at my local beach and after much swearing have mastered the art ( to an extent). These give you options on all beaches where you can spot the gutter and last year we absolutely hammered the whiting

  3. Looked at the tides yesterday arvo, bottomed out around 1700 so decided to head south of Wollongong and hit my favourite spot, the river fishes well on the last hour of the run out. My son and I went to a local rock pool and gathered a heap of bait and he made a burley mix (which ended up being worth more than its weight in gold I found later on). We arrived and my son started the burley, nice balls of weed n sand dissolved on the water and showed me the run out was still going.

I cast out and no sooners does the weed hit the water I see my float vanish, I set the hooks and pull in a 20 cms baby blackie, let him off cast again 10 cms blackie, let him of cast again and WHACK, 30 cm models this time.....I started to fish the deeper whole and got on to the larger ones. This went on for 30 mins with a total of 20 fish caught with 4 in the keeper net then I get hit by a monster. The fight lasts 5 mins resulting in the line snapping or the hook unthreading (which I would find odd given the fish it caught previously) and the force threw my line in the air creating a Christ almightly know. I spend the next 30 mins trying to fix then decided to cut it off and start again.

By the time I restarted the flow had stopped and we were in the lull of the tide. I got two more keepers and decided to head to a spot that fishes well on the rise.  AS per the first spot jnr starts the burley I cast out.....no drift. 10 mins later the tide is rising fast as is the drift and I am getting very very slow downs....I set the hook and the fish are on, I drop two and land two around the 40 cm mark. The beach side fish are more decided in their bites, slower in the down but huge!. Each fight is a fight for my balance and to steer the fish away from the rocks. I had 8 by this stage.......my PB for a take home I wanted to make it to 10 and the fish were there and I had bait and a little daylight still. I loaded up a cast and hear SNAP. The Wilson RFB 1206 Snapped near the hand grips. The line wasn't caught when I cast nor was the rod tip or any other part. I was gutted, 2 short of my pb and my favourite rod destroyed!.

I have heard of blokes keeping rods for decades and was hoping to keep the Wilson for just as  long. I don't believe they make the RFB 1206 anymore, they had a one or two piece 10 footer but its not the same.

What would be a suitable replacement?

I have already re rigged my Gary Howard which is a great rod but id like a good spare and a single piece. The GH has caught many fish for me and if I was to destroy that some how id lose my sh@#@$t.

All in all it was a great trip and my son loved it. I have him a go when I hooked a small one and he said that was his favourite part. I want to teach him some casting next time but with a kids rod.

    Thanks for reading

That sounds like an action packed sess elf!

Did you try long wait vs short wait before striking? seems the only thing you left out  . . . .

    Funny that

Best fish i landed was on a count of 10 before striking. My mate nearly had a heart attack waiting. He struck at will with good success.

  5. Haven't had a sesh like this since port locked us out of my usual spot.

Landed about 40 odd fish in 2 hours almost every cast many were too small but a few keepers.

Strange thing was there was a period where my mate was hooking up non stop and i wasnt.

Was getting hard downs non stop but wasnt able to hook the fish. Trued soft strike, hard strike, big hook, little hook, same weed different weed no difference. Cant work out why he could hook em every cast and i seemed to luck out?

Still a very good session until the sand flies came. Waited till we rolled the sleeves up to clean the fush tbe bit the crap out of out fore arms.

  6. As a local id say fairy meadow is best for worms. Has least amountof grit n pebbles.

I was a stocking with pilchards over the area and use same as hand bait. Works well n those big greenhead buggers turn up most times.

  7. Hi guys

Been a keen blackfisher and beach fisher for a few yrs. The boss  booked a holiday to perú for three months this yr nov to jan.

Ive been cut loose to explore solo fir three months and wondered if anyone knows of any fishing tours or anything in the peruvian andes.

After watching river monsters im certain there will be plenty of options and ive heard the trout are good in the cool mountain waters. Was pretty  pumped until the old man started going on about a shop and Kamen eating people.

Any advice or experiences woukd be great.

  8. I use paternoster with two tales

Gang hook on bottom  with a full pilly and mustad bait holder  for the  top with the tail half of the pilly. Caught plenty of salmon in the day but never a tailor and as above you get more at night.  1609 onwards  is good as you have enough light to find a gutter for the long cold evening ahead. Id send out bits of any salmon in hopes of  jew or shark.

Hay guys any news if the oil bath break wall is reopen yet been shutdown  for ages ....cheers

    no mate

Was there early  today and its locked up and the tractors were in.

    2018 apparently

  10. Hit the usual spot today and got 2 for dinner....it wasn't  with out drama though.

I had to swim for bait as the waves and what looked like a  white water rafting course were hiding the weed. One bloke hit the same area but got clear and set up for drummer....brave man i would have  give up after the 1st 10 times the float somersaulted out of the channel but maybe  he knows something that I  clearly dont. Any way after a little  swim i hit a nice weed bed and filled the burley  n bait bucket n swum back to the ledge.....managed to do so with out spilling a drop of coffee.....second thoughts that wasn't the best plan.

I was then off to port for a drift.

The last report i posted teaching a bloke to blackfish. Well this week he made sure he was in my spot which is fine, he was tryingto  blackfish but the rig was terrible ....he  also had two unmanned rods as did  his 4 mates making it not possible for me to  wet a line so i bailed with the shits.hate it when people  takeover a whole area. 20 could  fish there easily.

Hit wollongong  harbour  for zero. Was nice water but just wasnt our day. Tried infront of the small light house. Got some downs in the harbour near the boats  but i suspect  sweep more so than  niggas.

I then decided to  return to  port. The bloke moved over telling me the niggas werent there. I watched him and his rig...he was making too much noise, fishing too heavy and too shallow BUT he told me he googled black fishing so he knows how....anyway i took my chance n withing 10 mins had 2 for dinner. He whipped out his rig but still couldn't land any. Next time ill show him i think. Skilled blackfisherman should be able to fish shoulder to shoulder so might be worth helping him. Might increase my chances of getting a go even if the hog the spot.

On a sidenote i had a small kingy hit my weed after i did a fast retrieve. I was going to hit bottom so i reeled in fast only to see a small kingy chasing my weed before hitting it. It ran a meter before  spitting  it out. The mac seem to like chasing  it also.

I need to get onto the macs ir frigates  or whatever  they are. They are there but won't take  any lures  or bait i throw at them.
