Headed up to The Entrance a week ago to take 81 y/o Mum out in our tinnie. She loves fishing and had been dropping plenty of hints to get me up there from Sydney!
Anyway, weather was perfect and there were a few fish around though we had to move around to find them. Our main target was luderick. When things went quiet we’d flick for flatties on SP gear or stick on some bread under a float for mullet.
Managed a few of our target fish. The biggest lud went 43cm, flatty 49cm and mullet a fat 41cm. The mullet circled the boat - great fun on light gear. Smaller luds < 30cm were released.
All in all a great day out on the water.

I've also caught a tailor on weed in the main channel at The Entrance. It would have gone close to 1kg.

Thanks Rick. That was my 2nd flatty on weed - one on wire weed, the other on ribbon weed. Flatties should pick up soon as the water warms up.

Spent the day in our tinny at The Entrance last weekend. Flatties were scarce. We switched to blackies and finally found a school late in the day. Ended up with a mixed bag of 6 blackies, a flatty and a bream. Also managed the rare feat of a dumb flatty on wire weed! The current was quick and he's probably mistaken it for a fish. It's amazing what they will take.

A number of guys catch them from the ledge, however I usually fish the corner of the pool - easier & safer. It fishes well in the right conditions when there's a hole at the southern end of the beach.

Nice catch Ozzybass. You're living the dream fishing mid-week! It definitely pays to downsize the leader if you're not getting bites, esp when the water is clear.

Well done Drc. I was fishing for blackfish at Curly recently and a local told me he's been getting a few whiting. It's definitely worth persevering with worming. I love going down to the beach on a low tide, catching a few worms, then fishing the gutters on a rising tide. Thx for the tip re SAX scent!

Used to fish Long Reef platform a lot. We'd go out to the high rock at the eastern extremity of the platform and fish back over the flats right through the high tide. Blackfish and bream come up to feed in the shallows, especially after dark.

Sounds like a brilliant session. Pound for pound there's few fish that fight like a pig. They also taste great!

i fished a couple of spots on the northern beaches today but only caught 3 luddies.

Great to see reports coming through of harbour blackfish.
Despite the winter estuary run, there are still plenty around the ocean rocks. Attached is a pic of 6 fish from a short session last weekend at Long Reef. The bite was hot for a short period before the rising tide forced me to leave.
On another recent session at Long Reef I caught a rabbit fish while targeting blackfish. Eating quality wasn't great so I'll let the next one go. I'd never seen one before but read how they are venturing south with our warming water. I've also read warnings about them - if you catch one watch out for their spikey fins which are venomous and inflict an intensely painful sting. I've attached a pic to show what they look like - it's the fish at the bottom with the skinny tail that looks like a trevally. Sorry about the darkness - I hung around 'till I could no longer see my float!

Nice catch Tysh! I thought there would have been too much fresh water in the system after all the rain but its obviously not bothering them. I'm heading up there next weekend so hopefully we'll have similar success.

I was fishing at The Entrance over Christmas. Some idiots were in an overloaded dinghy yelling at a group of nearby mates around midnight, annoying everyone else and waking up locals. They then started up their boat, floored it through the 4 knot zone under the bridge, went around a nearby small island in the dark, then BANG! They hit a sandbar and capsized their boat! Karma...

Great fish Mike. I ran around the dam a few weeks ago and was thinking of trying for some near the dam wall. You have to wonder why they go for corn kernels!

Well done Wellzy. Fish up there are hard to find at the moment - great to see Raiders helping you out. We fished there over the weekend from our tinnie & had to hunt around to find a school. It seems that most blackies have headed back to sea.
I swear by floating line for blackies, esp when there is a lot of line between you & the fish.

Good to hear you're catching a few Reggae even if they have been patchy.
The Manly Daily reported heaps of trevors around grotto pt this week - not sure how accurate this is? I've been having some fun with luderick but only when the swell is up and the water has had colour and movement.

As a self confessed blackfish addict I headed to north harbour last Sat & braved the elements. It was a poor return - just 2 keepers, several throwbacks around 30cm and a few bust offs. Despite the rain, the water was too clear.
I had a spare hour on Sun and changed tacks by heading to one of our local ocean rocks on the northern beaches. I lost a horse blackie that stripped line and snapped the 6lb trace but managed 3 others. The largest was a very fat 41cm. Per the pic, I pushed it 'til I could no longer see the float!

Likewise, we fished the lake a week ago. It was amazing how clear the water was on the eastern side of the bridge. We had no joy there but found fish further upstream where there was more colour in the water and, like Stapo, had more joy at the bottom of the run-out tide.
