  1. The bloke is right but the winds are shocking i can only remember the days we sat at Juno with a Southerly right in your face, the boat swinging from side to side, not even two sea anchors will help ya champ...... but to all of you who doubt the big tides or dont like them is the reason you prolly have not caught a 20kg+ Jew....

  2. Hi ya all, I am making the trip down to Sydney again on the 15th to the 18th of April with my son Plemo..If the weather is good I am thinking of giving Botany Bay another go, and this time try catching some live bait for the kings and Jewies.. :biggrin2:

I have never donr this before.. So Can anyone either make a post or PM me with some tips on how? and spots to try for yakkas, squid and slimies..I dont know the bay all that well but can find my way around..

If the weather is not going to be that good I will try the Hawksberry in and around Broklyn area and maybe out to Lion island..

I have made a live bait tank from a esky, that has a pump in the bottom of it that circulates the water..Is this enouogh? or do I have to have a airrater as well? The guy at Bcf said it was all I needed??

So if the bank tank looks OK, all I need to do is catch the bait.. Once again all the help I can get would be great..

    Where to find the bait?

    What rig's?

    See you out there

Moulineux POint champ, spilt shot on 6lb line and size 12 long shank with bits of chicken breast or pilly

  3. Water rips too hard thru there to be able to fish off land, there is a jetty/big pier about 150m south off that entry in the car park but you have to pay to fish there and its hard work getting fish up, mostly dart and Tailor are caught. Jes in winter time, you can fish the broadwater around the marina's there with sp's its a better option, just find a place and fish near any moored boats, there is a marina at the first roundabout as you hit sea world drive and you can fish there off the park and catch some nice fish.

  4. Pin them deeper and dont crack your rod to hard use a one motion cast with no jolt right at the end, a softer tip rod would help with this. I can cast yakkas on my beach rod about 60m so you should have no problem getting that, i can get strip baits out much further, try using yakka fillets, they work a treat, even butterflied, or if you are worried make a two hook rig and opin the second hook after its anal fin. that works too.

  5. Few questions first, where are you hooking them? Behind the head in front of dorsal fin? You hooking them deep enough, dont be scared.

Do you have a soft tapered rod? Is the tip soft or hard? If hard your rod may not absorb the shock of the cast and rip thru the livie.

What kind of hooks are you using?

  6. I think your trace is fine, i have caught them on coloured fishing line before. I think its something else you are doing like maybe the way your bait is presented? The area you are fishing? Not being patient enough. If you are fishing Sydney harbour just stick to fillets of fish or squid strips. Even use 20lb leader if you want. My favorite leader is Ande Pink in 30lb or 40lb, buy that you will never go wrong.

  7. I agree with above statements from Pete but if your drag is set to fight the fish you dont really need to strike, it wont do anything.

Another good way is too have your drag loose, not baitrunner mode and when you hear it running you dont move your rod at all just slowly increase the drag by turning the knob with the rod in the same position the whole time until its tight enough for you to fight it then you can pick your rod up.
