Hi Guys,
Just wanted to see if there was any further update on this?
I am looking at doing a hike into the lower kowmung during 2015, I have been a bit higher up and the fishing was a bit scarce so thought the lower section might be a bit better. Not much point in going in though if the wire/fence is still in place.
Cheers

Caught it from a boat. Must have been about 9am last Saturday.
Was there again this weekend and there were a few bream and pretty decent trevally (around 40cm) and a 35cm Tailor.
I even saw what I am calling the same rat that I mentioned earlier hanging around my engine - I still couldn't entice him to take a hook though :-(

Cheers Steve. I meant it looked dark in a good way, like yellow fin tuna etc :-)
I think it would have actually been pretty good eating. I'll def give it a go if I get the opportunity again. Maybe I should dig a couple of bits out of my salty bait box now and give it a go haha!

I took the fillets off and diced them up for bait. I added them to my bucket if salted slimeys so it should last well. The flesh looked great and I would have loved to have tried some sashimi if I had been confident of what it was. It was really dark meat like a tuna, darker than a regular bonito. I saw a snall king come through my burley trail a short while after. He was picking around for about 20mins eating everything that didn't have a hook in it. I tried everything - jigs, SPs, halcos, baits even the 6lb handline with a chunk of the burley but I couldn't fool him!
great day on the water though. A few good size trevs and a 27cm bream that all went back for another day.

So it is! Thanks SydneyFisher!
it was just under 60cm Steve. A great fight on a light handline... I was trying to get some Yakkas!

Hi Raiders,
Headed out early Saturday morning hoping to get up to Longy but the weather turned me off a bit so stayed around the Heads.
Managed a few Tailor and an ok Flattie which was great for dinner last night.
I also caught a decent sized bream but am a bit unsure if it is a YF or a black? I thought it looked more like a YF but the anal spike isn't as long as I thought it should be for a Yellow. Thoughts?
Cheers,
Lotez

Nice looking fish Butch - good work!

Hi Pete,
Yeh bud, i cut just below the head, make a small cut in the tail & and trim the gills a little.
I then get a rope and tie the fish off so the bloods runs outside the boat (Beats filling the boat with blood as it flows quit fast from the MAKO'S).
The guts smell really bad too, so it's an option to gut them whilst the fish is hanging under the water, to reduce the fumes!
However, in saying this, I am no expert and there is probably better alternatives out there for them!
Regards
Butch
Thanks for the tips Butch - gutting them under water and tying them off outside the boat sound like very good ideas!

Nice Mako Butch!
Is that the best way to bleed them - a slice on the back of the neck?

Nice work on the Jewy.
When you drift between the heads for flatties do you use a patanosta ot jsut a running sinker and make sure you stay in touch with the bottom?
