    Official Hairtail Social REPORT 2014

    Hi all,

    I was already going next year and had a great time, learnt a lot and met some great people. But now, thanks to Harold, my next Hairtail Social will work out to be free. I'm gunning for the biggest...!!! Just gotta buy some bumpers for my boat, cause when Scratchies around, my boat ends up with Scratchies.

    Need someone who can Weld

    Hi all,

    I'm looking for someone around the Camden to Campbelltown areas who has the ability to weld my winch post.

    The post was a little rusty at the base and on my trip home from the Hairtail Social, it got worse.

    I've cut it down, ground it back and it is tacked back into position. But that's as far as my welding ability goes.

    If anyone is interested, please let me know.

    Winch Strap, Cable or Dyneema Braid

    Hi all,

    I'm looking to either revamp the boat winch with a new cable, strap or dyneema braid. Could anyone please offer there advice (pros/cons) to the 3 choices?

    It currently has cable which is very tired and needs to be replaced and the boat weighs 1.3t.

    Hello all,

    After fishing the Hairtail social and what a sensational social it was. I thought it might be time to revamp this page and bring it back to life.

    I'd say after meeting a number of raiders at the Hairtail Social, that if not all, at least most of them would be up for another social sometime soon.

    Not to mention the other 21,980 members we have on our site.

    If its an excuse we all need to make it to this one, it could be "Fishraiders 10th Birthday Bash"

    Side message to the Swords, I'll offer a hand to get it organised.

    Bait board install problem

    Hi Geoff,

    I had a similar set up on an old boat. Depending on how much space you need, there is a couple of things I could suggest.

    Firstly you could mount and pack accordingly the holders on the other side of your wash well, as opposed to the inside if your boat.

    The other, and I have done this before, is you can relocate the tubes going into your your bait board to push it back further into the wash well.

    The only thing with doing this is to be careful of your motor cowling when trimmed up, as it may hit the back of the board.

    Dual Battery/VSR Question

    Hi all,

    I set up my batteries and VSR today, which according to the schematic, all went to plan.

    My question to anyone that might know is;

    Is it normal that;

    position 1 is auxiliaries

    Position 2 is main

    Then both or off

    Also, as it currently sits, I can only start the motor from position 2, which means when running electronics, I have to flick to # 2 to start and in turn, temporarily losing all electronics.

    Is it okay to switch to both to start so that I don't have to lose lights etc at night time? Or, could I be wrong?

    Hi all,

    Fishing for Hairtail is the 1st for me, as is this comp and also fishing the hawskebury, which I am really looking forward to. Although, I'm not looking forward to the cold.

    Can anyone please offer advice as to how much and what type of baits I should bring for the 3 days and any other pointers you would think might improve my chances for a few productive days?

    Thanks Jim for your advice. You've basically backed up my concerns. As I said, in previous boats I've always fitted them and never had an issue.

    This particular dealer had me convinced.

    So, off to the shoppe I go tomorrow to by a VSR.

    Hi Glenn,

    A VSR as I understand it, essentially is a relay that once the motor is running will direct all charge to the crank battery and once it has reached a full charge the relay will then divert the charge to the house battery.

    In effect, always ensuring your crank battery is full and ready to start the next time.

    As I mentioned in my post, I like them. But to be told their a waste of money has done nothing but confuse me.

    Hi Raiders,

    As the topic title asks, is the use of a VSR kit necessary on a dual battery setup please?

    I have set them up and used them on previous boats, but I went to buy a new setup yesterday at a marine store and was told by the business owner they were not required and in fact, a waste of money.

    He sounded pretty convincing, saying he has been in business for 25 years and never fits them to his boats.

    According to him, as long as your diligent with battery selection;

    1. For cranking

    2. When when using auxiliaries

    Both. When running for recharge.

    Can anyone please offer advice and wisdom on this one.
