  1. The burly mix we usualy use is chopped up weed and sand and make it a rich mix of weed to keep the blackies around. Before we start throwing burly in, we always check to see which way the drift is going for our floats then chuck a couple of scoops in up past our floats so it keeps our floats in the strike zone with the drift. If you chuck the burly down past the float you end up taking the fish away from the strike zone. When burlying, don't throw to much in, just enough to keep them interested maybe a couple of scoops every 10mins or so.

  2. Another good haul from you and Royce again Trev. Makes it a lot easier fishing from a boat, gives you more options to move around and find the fish. Them block of units look familiar. I suppose it was shoulder to shoulder on that famous rock also.

  3. It was great to get back into it again Larry. My blackie rods were gathering dust and cobwebs from lack of use. Bit sore today after yesterdays session, but that was to be expected even though I took it easy.

That's one operation I never want to go through again. It was finally a relief to get my neck brace off after wearing it for 6 weeks. In the next few weeks I hope to be fully fit to chase the blackies of the rocks again.

    Cheers

  4. I think we fished up to about 1.30pm, but we were only pulling a couple of fish out at different spots we went to. They just weren't around. Royce reckons that maybe the good run of blackies has come to an end. They have spawned and are moving back out to the ocean. Just have to wait and see how next weekend goes.

  5. Hit the harbour today with Royce & Trev for a blackfish session. It was great to have a rod back in my hands again after being out nearly 7wks recovering from spinal surgery on my neck. We ended bagging 7 for the table & dropped another 10 between us. It was slow going & we had to hunt around to find them.

    Cheers

  6. I have also used the weed fly on occassions in the harbour but you have to keep the burly up to them.

What I did find that I was getting downs but no hook ups so I trimmed the fly when it was wet to see how much tail was hanging. After doing this I was getting better hook ups.

  7. Royce, Rory and myself hit the Hacking last Sunday. The boys between them got 4 while I got zilch. Got smashed 3 times in a row by pigs. You could see the blackies in the water, but they didn't want to play.

Like the old saying goes Trev "you should have been here yesterday".

  8. Even though it wasn't a bad haul of blackies Stormy, we still had to go hunting for them. We just don't rock up to a place and they are there as a lot of people think. A lot of K's are put in to find them. If we don't get a fish in the first hour or so we move on. On a typical Sunday's outing by the time I pick up John & Royce & if we have to go chasing weed and finding fish, I can do between 200 to 250K round trip. We work hard for our fish & on most occassions the rewards pay off.

  9. It was a top day & after being out of it for the last few outings with hardly any fish being caught, I finaly got my mojo back again & it felt so good. I like to give a special thanks to Rory who made up a stainless steel filleting table for the DFC and I reckon when Royce's eye gets better, he is gonna come back with a vengence & the master is gonna give us boys a lesson in blackfishing we will never forget.
