  1. Hey mate nice bag of fish there. We were up that way during the Easter break at the same time and managed to land 2 Jews. No monsters but both legal fish, one went 79 and the other 76. Both caught on fresh squid strips. The jewies are definately along that stretch of beach for sure.

  2. Hey mate nice catches there. There are plenty of Australian Salmon off the beaches atm. A few Tailor in amongst them also, although anything you throw out seems to be smashed by the salmon first. I also got a couple of just under sized snapper from rocks last night, but no keepers though. There are a heap of Ludrick around the rocks in close also as you can see them schooling up eating the weed. I tend to not bother with them as Im a noob at targeting them.

  3. That's a great effort land based mate! Where abouts were you fishing up here?? Hawks nest??

    Some cracking fish there!

    Well done :)

    Cheers scratchie!!!

I fished a number of places including the break wall at the marina. The tailor were caught at the northern end of shoal bay beach, as was the flathead. The jewies were caught at one mile beach. A lot of big size bream were being caught at break wall, I managed only a few and one went 43cm.
  4. Had a blast up in Port Stephens over the easter weekend, did all land based fishing and got into some red hot fishing. Spinning up Tailor on sunrise and sunset, hunting Jewies and Flatties at night. Landed some pretty decent fish including 2 nice Jewies one going 103cm and the other 87cm. Got a monster flattie on a fresh Tailor slab one night along with several pesky shovel nose sharks. A awesome trip all round cant wait to go back.

  5. There is usually a deeper hole that runs in the middle of the beach just infront of the surf club. When the swell drops off it is worth a crack, as I have fished there alot of late and it has been very productive. Tailor and Salmon are the main targets on ganged hooks with pilchards. Usually I throw a few Tailor fillets back out on 2 larger snelled hooks for a chance at bigger predators.

  6. Decided to head back to the North End Rocks at Maroubra last night as the swell and wind had dropped right off from previously in week. I arrive a good hour and a half before the high tide and had baits in the water by around 7pm. Not much happened for the first 2 hours and it seemed like it was going to be a fishless night untill about 30 mins after tide change I get two massive bumps on the rod tip so I grab the rod and strike, feels like a pretty decent fish. After a short fight and a few cool ariel displays in the dark I pull up a nice Kahwai (Australian Salmon). So I rig up another pillie on the ganged hooks again and lob it out. Not 5 mins later the rod bends over again, so I strike and hook up again. This time it feels slightly smaller and doesnt put up much of a fight utill i get it close into the rocks where it trys a final dash for freedom. I manage to land it but this time to my suprise it is a small tailor. This is starting to fire up. I throw another pillies out on the gangs and 10 mins pass before I get another decent hit. I strike and feel a more substatial weight, this fish puts up a better fight and I hoping it doesnt head for the rocks and bust me off. I direct the fish to the lower ledge and finally wash it up to reveal a much nicer tailor, stoked! I continue to fish for another hour but with no luck, the fish must have moved on so i call it a night. All in all good night with 3 Fish landed for the smoker, wrapped!

Few pics, but pretty bad quality.

  7. First time poster long time reader. Last night at around 6pm I decided to head down to Maroubra for a fish. The swell was fairly small and I thought the rocks at the northern end of beach looked nice as the swell was coming from the North East aorund the corner as was the wind. I was running two rods, both loaded with squid. One was rigged with a 2 snell hook and a running star sinker the other with a running ball sinker and a single hook. First cast on the double snell rig I hook up, not much of a fight later reaveals a under sized snapper of about 29cm, so back to fight another day it goes. On the single hook I was getting small bites but no hook ups. After rebaiting several times the snell hook rig goes off again, this time a much more substatial fight. After several small runs I pull it to the surface only to be disapointed with a small stingray. Back it goes. I rebait and throw it back out and continue to work my single hook rod only to be picked to bits by smaller fish every time. 30 mins pass and I was rebaiting the single hook rig when boom my double snell setup is smash by somthing much larger. I grabbed the rod only to be busted off imediately on the rocks, I was to slow and what ever it was, was too clever and went striaght for rocks. This only made me more amped and determined so several baits again went out over and over. Meanwhile on my single hook rod I am getting more substantial bites and I mangage to hook into a fish which has a decent fight in it. After eventually landing the fish it reaveals a nice 39cm Silver Trevally. I continue fishing for another 30 mins but the fish go off the bite and everything shuts down. So ended a pretty fun and interesting night in Maroubra. Hopefully I can get back out there soon and get that one that got away. Cheers.
