Same story for us. 4 squid in 4 hours and zero kings. Sydney was quiet.
-
we found that same hard break off Gong yesterday... was rapids with the currents colliding with the crap caught in middle with huindreds birds...we were sure we were going to score..
we did laps along it with a trailer boat passing eachother on way...after about 4 laps they stopped and had hooked up and looked like a decent fish fighting for maybe hour..dont know if they ended up getting it or pulling hooks..( was a green trophy boat)
we got a decent hit on one rigger but hooks did not stick
ended up heading back up north a bit for arvo tide change and cube SE of browns and only got few small albies although there were some YFT taken in that area during day
by late arvo was glass out for trip home comepared to bumpy ride out
That was us in the green trophy, we landed an approx 50kg YFT. We thought for sure it was a SBT, considering I had a reading of 17.5 degrees at one stage.

Awesome fish mate. Just out of interest can you give me some idea on how you connected the rod to your alvey, I would to do something like that to mine.

Thanks for feedback. From what I have heard from other people, I think the solo 1kwis the way to go. What 1kw transducers are a good all rounder?

I'm looking at finally getting some new electronics for my boat and need some advice on the transducer set up.
Firstly I'm looking at going a furuno 587 sounder with a Simrad nss9 for the gps. Furuno have a great reputation so thought this was the way to go and the reason for the Simrad gps is due to them being compatible for mercury engines and the smartcraft gauges.
With the new setup I will be using it anywhere from 10m of water for jewfish/kingfish, 50m for snapper/kingfish and browns mountain for blue eye cod and tuna/marlin. I was thinking of running 2 transducers, a 1kw wetbox and a 600 transom mount. I want to do this so I can fish a variety of depths and not spook fish with the 1kw transducer. Can anyone suggest if this is a good idea or a bad one and any suggestions on what transducers to use?
I am totally new to the serious electronic side of things so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Frank.

Just wandering if anybody uses the fresh hawkesbury squid bought from any bait store regularly for jewfish and have success using them? I need a back up plan as catching squid at night can be a pain in the neck sometimes.
Thanks.

Thanks for the replies.
I was thinking along the same lines as Ken A but in reversal. We will probably start fishing at around 2am and work our way towards dawn.

I'm thinking about doing an overnighter for snapper off stanwell on Saturday and was curious to hear what people's thoughts were on catching snapper at night. Has anybody had much luck?
Thanks

That is an absolute senstaional report. Top stuff.

Still tossing up whether we head out Sunday and not sure whether it's snapper or tuna.
-
We'll be out tomorrow, green trophy and call sign "anetta".
-
Awesome stuff Albert, great work. Is that a stick bait in its mouth?

With a few of last years YFT in September caught on poppers, stickbaits etc I'm trying to prepare my gear for a possible similar run this year.
I was thinking of buying the terez 50lb rod 7.2 as an option to popping and also as a bit of an allrounder.
My question is to whether these rods will do the job of popping for YFT off sydney?
Thanks.

What do you guys think of the weather? Looks a little average to me, possible southerly change and 20kt winds for tomorrow.

Bring it on. I need my first bluefin.

Best time to target the hoodlums is from now until June in my opinion.

I'm heading down to currarong for the weekend and will be fishing the banks for the first time.
Can anyone give me any suggestions or pointers on how to fish this area as I know it's a large area and would just start off with the gps mark that is on this website.
Would like to target kingfish.
Thanks

I'm thinking about doing an overnighter this Saturday and was curious on thoughts of fishing for jewfish offshore at night
Without wanting to know exact spots I wanted to see the thoughts on best baits, tides changes, depths, berley etc and how to fish properly offshore at night.
Also can you get snapper at night offshore?
Regard
Frank

I have been hearing a few reports of these fish off Sydney and it has got me pumped to catch one.
I have never fished for them and was curious to see if anybody could help with some information on them.
The research I have done have mainly pointed to a summer night as to when to catch them but considering they are an offshore fish what is it like fishing offshore at night with a NE blowing. Does the wind back off at night at a certain time?
Any thoughts would be great.

Bluefin in October/November, now that wound be freakish. Would love to see it happen.
-
We found some fin yesterday 6 mile south of browns. Big swells and not much wind.
-
We should be out also as long as the wind does ease. Green trophy , call sign anetta. I need a big YFT before the season ends.
-
Well be out Sunday. Call sign anetta in a green trophy. Fingers crossed the weather stays ok.

Unfortunately it wasn't us Damo. Also thanks for the advice you gave me, every time I ask you for some advice you always give out information willingly so it is appreciated.
Didn't seem like there was a lot happening out there today, we did put in the effort but all seemed quiet except for a few good fish.
Snagged bottom at Browns.

One tackle shop owner said that blue eye congregate high in the water column so I wouldn't be too worried about being so close to the bottom.
