  1. I release 99% of my catch each year ,all frames are put back thru the bucket and any off cuts and guts are used as bait .it would have been a waste if i stayed and fished the whole 18 hours of the comp as i baged on two of the seven species that fish well on that tide and moon.

this would be a waste if i did this day after day or week after week ,this the second time Ive fished this water way this year ,the first was in January with all fish released ,

  2. nope

    daiwa saltist 30T

you can pick them up for around $320 - $360

    CFD

you are paying to much for them at 320 to 360 ,you can pick them up on ebay new in the box buy now price from 175 to 190 australian plus post of around 30 dollars ,220 max to your front door 4 to 5 days ,Leigh

  3. beachwormer ,did you do a P5 with the Police? as if he and his mate make statements that you drove in to him you have nowhere to go ,as Knock for Knock won't come in to play, with conflicting statements you will be on the wrong end and have to pay your excess ,( BEEN IN THE TRADE FOR OVER 30 YEARS seen it all to many times before )

  4. Ive bought two 525's and one 535 mag in Australia ,dont let them tell you there not available in Australia

the 525 dont hold enougth line .as after a good cast you have a very slow retrieve due to spool diameter ,the 535 mag is a very easy reel to control stright out of the box good drag enougth line for what you want it for and speed ,the Salitis is a good reel for bigger fish but i would go a Avet over all others for spinning off the rocks , All the reels are sold in Australia just finding a store that will give siverice without huge markups is the hard part ,

  5. try a hollow braid like JB if you are going to use mono or fluoro leader you can slide the the leader inside the braid to give you mono to braid joint with no knots and 100 % line strength ,

  6. the first answer has got was (.The faster the taper the quicker the rod goes back to its original shape,)

this not true and bas said he was confused by it , He got the answer spot by his self ,

as i said in my first post most will disagree . as they have NO first hand knowledge of laying up blanks , regards Leigh

  7. so a rod at 4.25 mts with butt od of 21 mill and a tip od of 2.8 mill has what sort of action or tapper

you can put action into a parell carbon or glass section of tube thru placement of either powerpoints or a frulcom .there is no taper in this action .

  8. Exactly why I am trying to explain what taper is. Often this term is confused with action. Question was what is taper and what taper is good for 15kg overhead; not "what is action". 2 rods made from the same number of wraps of same material on different taper mandrels will have different action, so taper has already affected action. Now construction material and technique differences can change the actions further to suit whatever is the desired application. Why do blank manufacturers have different tapered mandrels to make same length rods

    for different applications
  9. Taper is a measurable dimension, the rate at which the rod goes from thin to thick. A rod with a same dia tip and a fatter butt then another of the same length as the faster taper. A dowel has zero taper. Taper is one of the properties which gives the rod its bend "action". Generally a "fast taper" produces "fast action"

what about power pointed or furclom butts ,both have the same tapper and both are totally different with the same amount of product going in to each ,

as for tips the use of plumb fibers ,dual healix construction ,SVF Carbons with overlaying cuts to name a few of the current trends in manufacturing all will give you totally different action out of the same tappers ,that's why manufacturers stich to 3 simple actions

fast , medium ,slow they cant confuse the buyer to much that way ,

  10. that's a new one fast taper ( the taper the quicker the rod goes back to its original shape)

    tapper is not recovery,

bas your close to the mark (,For some reason I thought it was referring to the bend of the rod, whether the entire rod bends, or just the end 1/2, 1/3 etc.)

a slow tapper is more a pirobloc bend ,from the tip to the butt ,

    fast is the top third

and medium is just that a bit of everything ,

    tapper and tip recovery ,

recovery is very important on alvey and spinning reels if you are chasing distance in a cast as a fast recovery like HST will help to shoot the line thru the guides ,

you all have heard of wind knots with braid ,this is caused by bad guide placement ,size ,when you have slow recovery in the tip , a paroblic action with fast HST will over come wind knots ,

fast tapper and correct placement of a chocker guide solves so called wind knots .

a lot might dissagree these points . Ive done the hard yards of many years in tip recovery and tapers in distance casting .

  11. I just go some good news ,the fisheries rang me back with a report on the follow up action after my complaints about the under size fish been kept at avoca on Saturday ,

on Sunday they hit the ledge 4 CHAREGED WITH UNDER SIZE KINGS .all fish were removed from them ,there was one that thought to get the filleting knife out so they could not measure ,he was charged and all fillette taken ,they have been back in plane close each day since to see who is keeping the fish and then returning IN UINFORM to lay more charges over 12 have been charged since Sunday THIS IS GOOD it make fisherman understand 59 cm is not 60 as if you have to try and make it mesure 60 its not legal , Leigh

  12. the moon is wrong for prawans at this time

,the moon is right for tailor find a spot on the lake side of the bridge in the Chanel ,try and get the wind and tide to run the same way, find a spoot away from to much boat trafic, bearly hard .

fish hole pilles back in the trail (dont use a float ) let it run back in the current and hang on )you should be able to get a good feed of big tailor .

we normally use a 5120 and 6 1/2 inch alvey

i do mean bearly hard keep it going in fish in the 3kgs will show up .last year my best bag went 38 kgs ,

fish sunrise or fish in to the dark .

at the same time keep a prawn bait going on the bottom you will get bream ,whiting ,and flatties

  13. yeeros there is 5 to 6 days of nne winds running that will bring down the water temp off that shelf the only hope is that the swell is meant to turn to the SSE late in the week you may be lucky if you are there on the change

  14. it a shame when the rats turn it on so many fisherman have to be told that are not legal ,i was there and spun 8 with all going back only one was legal and that was just ,the down side is there were more than 30 under size fish killed by fisherman that know the size I HAD TO MESUARE AND MAKE PEPOLE PUT BACK A HEAP THAT WERE NEAR ME ,i spoke with the local fisheries officer by phone at 7 am to put in a complaint and pass on the rego numbers of a few cars that they moved the under size fish to ,IF YOU ARE THERE AND SEE THIS HAPPENING SPEAK UP TELL THEM ITS TO SMALL AND PUT IT BACK OR RING THE FISHERIES ON THIS NUMBER IF ITS ON THE CENTRAL COAST 0419185517,

its going to be easy form to close the platform to fishing than inforce the laws of under size fish ,bag limits, rubbish, illegal camping ,and all the other human wast left behind ,when this area is under marine park rule

DONT THINK IT WONT HAPPEN we are fighting now and have been for a few years ,SPEAK UP NOW AS YOU WILL WHEN ITS TO LATE

  15. Went for spin this arvo and saw what we thought was a mass of floating weed out about 500 mts out in a current line ,with in an hour it was in at our feet ,

One of the bulk tankers ancokered of our coast has emptied its bilge

the weed mass was oil and sludge mixed with water ,washing up on the rocks at our feet and stretching over a few ks in area, must have been tens of thousand of liters of this sludge thick guee muck ,
