  1. Hey Krusty,

Welcome to the capital. Drop me a line some time and i'll see if I can pass on some tips and locations. I work in Belco and live in the Gungahlin area, fishing both quite a bit.

The rivers are also worth a look for Murray Cod, but i'd say try the inpoundments first to get your eye in :)

  2. Hi all,

I have been continuing my quest for an 80cm cod off the surface but have been coming up short.

Yesterday I went for a quick flick near my new house an had a belting session.

Squelching around the wet lands, flicking blind into the darkness in search of my green quarey. My lure scurrying over the surface without a look.

Eventually I found a small creek feeding a weed filled pool. I cautiously sent my pink koolabung cod walker under The outline of a pine tree. PLOP, bloop bloop bloop as with so many casts before. This cast however, was different. The faint sound of frogs croaking and cicadas chirping was shattered by an almighty bang.

My rod buckled and line came off my reel. After a bit of a tussle with both the fish and my head lamp, a stunning 50cm yellow was at my feet.

I was over the moon!!!!!! A pb yellow belly. A yellow belly on the surface! Woo hoo.

But the night was still young. I picked another up on te way back to the car! How lucky can you get!?!?

  3. Hi guys,

We are off to the coast for chrsitmas. I am able to join the dark side and get out on a boat!

I have proved to be shocking at bait fishing off boats in the past so we are looking to tow some lures around for palegics.

Could I please pick your collective brains for your top tips as far as speed, lures and spreads go?

    Any advise would be amazing.

    In the mean time,

    Merry Christmas to you all.

  4. Hi guys,

Continuing my Quest for surface cod.

I have bought a pack of 5inch pop shadz but I’m not really sure on the retrieve for cod. I had a play with them the other night but couldn’t get a sniff from the green monsters.

How do you guys use poppers for Cod?

Also an update - 4inch pop frogs and mantis in white have all had some interest this season.

  5. Hi guys. Last min trip tomorrow with some mates kids. I promised I would take them fishing and tomorrow syncs in.

Does any one know of a sure fire place to pick up some yakkas or slimies? We will be leaving from belmore and only have a couple of hours to spare.

    Really appreciate any advise.

    Thanks

    Pomey

  6. Hi guys. I have started my mental egg timer and am looking forward to getting back into the Green monsters.

I'm really hoping to get over the 80cm mark this season which should be spectacular as I fish almost exclusively off the surface.

I was wondering if any one had any top tips for luring these wonderful animals?

My top lures last season - z-man pop frogz in white, halco night walkers. post-24607-14169912722473_thumb.jpgpost-24607-14169913518628_thumb.jpg

Any who, I will keep you all updated on my travels and look forward to reading about your adventures.

  7. Hi all, long time no post.

I thought I'd give you an update on our last trip to the Murrumbidgee. A friend and I went out on Monday morning with yellow belly on our mind. We threw a series and small diving lures and crank baits at every pool, weed bed and snag but no takers.

I spotted a dark shape with a forked tail in the shadows and threw a kokoda vibe out and angled the retrieve over the top of the fish.

The line goes tight and the fish starts pulling. 'Ha! I mush have foul hooked him!' I thought (possibly out very loud)

Any who, after a nice tussle on some light gear, there was one less carp in the system. The lure firmly hooked into its bottom lip.
