  1. Nice one Pete.

I agree, bait or artificials have their day, but in general I don't think you can beat live or fresh bait.

Jolly nice of you to teach the Turkish guy and his family about fishing, you do this country and FR proud.

Hope to head to the lake for some artificials fishing, will let you guys know how I go.

  2. id like to to see little man battle the king can you post a link to utube

Here is a video I took of Michael "The Jigging Machine" a few months back. He does not hook onto a fish this time, but the video shows his jigging technique. Funny when you first see it, but the little man has stamina and goes all day long...

  3. Well done Zenman, good to hear a fishing story with a happy ending.

There could have been a big school down there, an 85cm Jew should not give you too much curry, if you are equipped for it. Imagine how MASSIVE the other ones may have been.... I guess you will never know...

  4. I hope so.. no doubt we will see you there downrigging your ass off !!! I have new rod holders now.. :biggrin2:

Ha ha, I see you were holding your Stella !! How has she held up after the dunking? Any rust or faults?

I can't wait to get stuck into the Summer kings. I haven't been out on my boat for a while, been bludging lifts from a certain fisho. Will be good to get out the Scottys again, see you out on the water soon...

  5. ACZ, the kings were on the northern headland today. Same area where Aero and Rodholder nailed them a few days ago.

Frank, not a worry about giving that spot/technique away. Not too many people are stupid enough, keen enough or equipped for night squidding. It takes considerable effort and sleep deprivation to beat the crowds, both at the ramp and on the squid grounds :1prop:

    Cheers

    Red

Nice one Red, very sporting of you to fish so light !!! I could imagine how fun they would be on such light line. The lightest I have used is 12lb braid, on a light rod, and the King gave me some curry...

You are right though, not many people would put in the hours and effort for squidding at night. The effort pays off though, and when you score with fish like that, it all makes it worth while.

  6. Thanks Roberta. I know what you mean about the spikes and fish wriggling when you are trying to put them to the sword.

When I used to fish for blackfish, I used to use a keeper net as well, and an eel also took a liking to one of the blackfish in the net. But it only happened the one time.

Speaking of bleeding fish, I remember one day when I had gutted a luderick and gilled it. And as I was about to put it into the net, I dropped it into the water, and it actually swam off... Poor thing... Would have quickly become eel or jewie bait.

  7. hi roberta,

those are pittwater blackfish, at my local haunt.... not from the stones... but spot produces size as good as off the rocks..... i have a plan of attack for those monsters... wont get as many downs but will improve the landing ratio....

    Nice bag of blackfish Roosterman.

Hope your plan comes to fruition. Good luck, and may the force be with you.

  8. This is the report about nothing. :(

    penguin

Ha ha, love the report Penguin.

I was out at Browns with Namesay and Rzee too, nothing to add to the tally. Although someone in one of the boats that buddied up with us jigged up an Albacore !!! Yes, you heard it right, the psycho dropped a jig (to the end of this line) and jigged. He felt weight, and up can an Albacore of around 70cm.

    Tough day out there.

  9. Everyone, thanks for the kind words.

It really was an amazing experience, that I'll never forget. And by far the best meat i've ever eaten

    cheers

Well done guys, just got back from a trip overseas, and Kelvin had told me about your capture and said I had to see the photos.

Fantastic capture, congratulations and certainly the fish of many lifetimes !!! It was awesome that you had so many people there to share the moment with.

PS - I heard that these southern bluefin taste fantastic, sounds like you agree.

  10. ive had luck at kurraba wharf and blues pt wharf (opposite luna park)

both times i have worked the jig directly underneath the wharf and it has produced the goods. both was at night time on low tide.

if you're there regularly then you'll probably see me there jigging for them myself more often than not... heheh :1prop:

Hey Sebastian, do you mean under the ferry platform or the jetty leading to the platform? I have seen a few squid around the jetty at Kurraba !!!

  11. Thanks for the replies guys, sounds like the Predator guys have a great reputation, and having a chat with the guy he seemed rather friendly and knowledgeable.

The only issue is that I am going to be in Jervis Bay (they are out of Kiama) and they only book by the boat, ie I need to fill up the boat. Since I wanted to go out with the missus and myself, this would make for one expensive trip.

Simo sounded good, and friendly. Total cost for day with missus and myself is $400 for the day, so could be a goer.

Other option is Boab Boat Hire, who hire a range of boats, the 6.5m centre cab coming out at around $400 for the day. May be worth a shot, although I am not familiar with the area, so it may be better to go out with a guide.

So they are my options, just thought you guys may be interested in what I came up with.

    Cheers.

  12. :Funny-Post:

Ahhh.. I had to remove the Catch of the Month entry. It was only up there as a bit of fun anyway.. The moderators told me that any COTM entry must have fins and an anus..

445F, I will be voting for you mate.. that is a cracker. Imagine trying to pull a fish like that out of Middle Harbour !!! Wouldn't have a chance with all those moorings, snags and rods and reels down there..

    Cheers

    Ceph.

CFD, what is this show you talk of? I thought I knew of all the fishing shows on Fox...

    Cheers

    Ceph

You are right Ceph, you would have to be very lucky or very skilled to land a fish like that in Middle Harbour or even in Sydney Harbour. By the time you see your rod bend, have time to react and take the rod out of the holder, he has probably snagged you. The advantages of jigging is that you are holding the rod and can react straight away, and if you hook the fish high enough off the reef, you have a chance.

To catch a fish like that off Sydney, in a mate's boat is special for me, and I think I will be doing well to better this one !!

The show is on at 8pm, Thursdays on TVS. Last week's episode was good, so hoping the rest of them are the same.

  13. 445F,

sorry Can you tell me What are some Jap jigging website address's? thanks

Mate, I have really only properly looked up one site, try this one Japanese Jigging Site

yes its always stressing watching such big fish make a mockery of your gear. would have liked to have seen the 80lb come out.

as for the show being weekly, it sure is!!!

every thursday night @ 8:00pm and if you miss an episode for some reason they repeat it on sunday @ 11:30am (if you arent fishing)

    CFD

Thanks CFD, I will be watching that show on a weekly basis now !!!

  14. awesome show isnt it

that one kingy he brought up on the last day was massive

    CFD

Last week was the first episode that I saw, but it was really good. I hope it is a weekly show, but not sure.. Perhaps you can shed some light CFD.

I think the guy should have powered up and used a stronger rod, he would have found out the size of those thumpers that reefed him.... He was pretty nonchalant about catching the big kings, so I am guessing he is used to catching big Kings on a regular basis.

    Cheers.

  15. Hmmmmmmmmmm, I'm not too sure about that picture?

Is that bits of newspaper on the fish that Nick the Fishmonger wraps fish up with ????? :074:

Bloody nice fish mate, I dare say, well worth the years wait :thumbup:

Can't wait to get mine...........(I've been waiting for 10 years so I'm sure its going to be heaps bigger!)

    Cheers

    Stumpy

You've found me out Stumpy !!! I managed to revive him from the mongers, so that the fish's fins were all standing up and on full display, pretty convincing hey !!!

Ha ha, on a serious note, that photo was taken just after the capture and the fish had not been dispatched yet. It was still kicking and I had to hang on tight so that I did not lose it overboard !!!

I am hoping this is not my Everest, and that there are bigger ones for me !!! But it is good to get the runs on the board.

I have attached another photo of the fish. I am also going to post the fish in the Fish Of The Month section, luckily Ceph's rod/reel catch is not on there anymore, it would have been reely (pun intended) hard to beat.
