thanks raider for the advices.
I tried mixing chicken pellets and bit of pilchards as berley, but dont think it work very well.
do you have any advice on how to make a good stinky berley ?

What a bummer
Sorry you went to all that effort for no real return. I'm only just starting to experience this kind of bad luck and its really depressing!
Are you planning a next trip to try and make up for it?
Hey squishy im planning to go out again in 2 weeks time pending on forecast, fishing its like a drug addiction

Hi Raiders
I havnt been fishing in a while, so a mate and i decided to go out early morning yesterday to bottom bash around clifton, been hanging around for 1-2 hours and there was nothing.
Just after 8am we decided to head out to the heads hoping to bring home something decent for dinner, we followed a few boats out side of the heads, and it seem like they weren't having any luck either, we decided to head back in to the river until we came across seagull attacking a school of bait fish, it caught the attention of other boats too, started casting a jig into the school, hoping something decent would take it, the bait fish only lasted for about 3-4 min and it left and so did the seagulls. we ended back in to the river only to manage to catch one legal size bream, feel so disappointed. =(

HI Tasksta,
Yes I motor out to the 30-40m mark and start prospecting around the edge of the reefs for good structure and some markings of fish. With snapper you can sometimes see a 1 or 2 fish just off the bottom holding, but not neccessarily bait. Sometime more.
I always anchor on the contour lines on my GPS (for the drops offs etc). I dont neccessarily always look for fish holding, if I know that the vicinity I am in produced snapper previously.
This morning there was no fish on the sounder till we berleyed for around 45mins, then a wave of snapper came through the cube trail, big marks mid-water.
The real secret is getting that cube trail working! I have landed big reds just off the harbour heads, all the way to long reef on those drop offs and reefs.
Another secret is current! You want fish the zones with strong current. Snapper will hold is strong current zones and rarely out of the current. Fish the strong current areas.
Butch
hey mate
can i ask what do u use for berley ??
thanks mate
-
how often do you use it?
gearbox oil change and impeller should be changed annually if reliability is your thing, lack of use can be the worst thing for outboards or any motor for that fact. plugs are cheap and a spare set should be carried on board.
check your owners manual for maintenance intervals to guide you as regards your motor.
Best to have it running sweetly with regular maintenance rather than leaving things till a problem arises.
thanks for the advice
when summer ends ill take it straight for a service

Sounds like a tilt trim issue. Try to get it at the right angle. At take of have the motor down and raise it slowly upwards as you build speed. Should help.
you actually have a good point there might be a tilt and trim issue
since u mention it im thinking since my petrol tank is at the front of the boat
when i accelerate the nose of the boat would aim toward the sky ,therefore it tilt my petrol tank and it struggle to feed petrol into the motor
thanks everyone on fishraiders for giving me advice and solutions to solve my issue
-
Do you mean when the problem happens, the motor is reving alot higher than it should be for the speed you are traveling?
it is over reving, seem like is struggling to gain power in the motor
my acceleration stick would be all the way down but it struggle to hit the speed
-
Hi raiders
I took all of the advice mention ( thanks you all )
today went from parramatta river all the way to birch grove
At first it was abit rough with the larger ferry and boat creating big wash but non the less it gave me huge experience and a confidence boost, still not keen enough to take it under the harbour bridge as yet , when I do I will definatly inform you.
I've got an odd issue with my motor, not sure if this is common
I owe a 70hp Johnson 2 stoke around the 1970s 1980s model , is well looked after from the previous owner he only did around 300 hours,
When I start te motor it turns on no problem
Then I would do about 30knots on the water heading to my destination , and came across a sailing boat , I would slow down give way and avoid collision , after the sailing boat has pass , I would accelerate , that's when my problem occurs the motor seem to struggle to give power I can't go any fast then cruising speed.
Reach my destination fish for about an hour,
Turn the motor back on to head off to another spot , motor turns on fine , I would accelerate to 30-40 knots no problem.
This problem only happens when I slow down and then speed up again , the motor seem to struggle and the noise comming from it felt like its over reving.
Does any one know or had similar experience ?
-
Thanks for the respond really appreciate it
I would love to catch them to eat
Now u mention is not safe to eat kinda killed my hopes
Would u eat any fish caught in parramatta river ?
-
Hi raiders
Back few years ago I was fishing of a wharf near cabarita
There was a 12 year old kid pulled up a massive muddy from his line.
My question is
Is there mud crabs in the parra river?
Where do I start looking ?
And what bait do I use to put in the trap ?
Last of all are they safe to eat ?
-
Hi raiders
How often do u need to service an out board motor ?
-
Great answer from Burnsey.
Be especially aware that in a boat that size and with low freeboard the wash from larger vessels is quite hazardous if your boat is heavily loaded. There can be substantial wash in the zone from the bridge to the heads. Under the bridge there is a speed limit and as vessels pick up speed you can get the wash from many larger vessels combining randomly and producing quite large, steep waves.
Scary huh? The good news is once you get out of the congestion zone of the bridge there are lots of bays and you can follow the north or south foreshore around with much less wash and less risk.
thanks guys for your honest opinion
i guess i just have to go out more often
until i could build a bit of confidence
ill just hang around parramatta river for the mean while

Hi fish raiders
I'm new to this, but I love fishing.
I've bought my self a Haines v133 fibreglass boat only taken it out a few time, not a very experience boater
I was wondering if its safe to take it from parramatta river right to the south/north heads,
I drove my mates boat under the harbour bridge and found it was pretty rough, and he has a stacer aluminum which is alot bigger and deeper then mine.
All advice would be greatly appreciated .
Thanks
